Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 414: Chapter 414: Servant’s Needle (Part 7)_1

It really is mysterious and unpredictable!

Staring at the intricately designed work ID beneath his feet, Fu Qian shook his head silently.

She had clearly been a crisp and efficient policewoman, but in the blink of an eye, she had turned into one of his own colleagues.

By the looks of things, the current level of abnormality was probably even more severe than what she had described!

Disregarding the unreliable guess of moonlighting, that scene from just now seemed to foretell a possibility—Kelly wasn’t fundamentally different from everyone else.

And the safe zone she had mentioned, might not even exist.

Including her identity as a police officer, it could all be a figment of her imagination.

According to what she had said earlier, those who were infected after the virus leak had their cognition distorted, losing the ability to distinguish reality from fantasy.

And the reason she rushed to save him was that she didn’t want to disturb the people in the office and thereby trigger a bloody incident.

But now it seemed likely that the scope of affected individuals would have to be expanded, and the severity increased.

For instance, everyone he had encountered so far could be completely relying on various figments to maintain superficial order.

Perhaps due to some obsession, after her cognition was twisted, Kelly saw herself as a police officer and even managed to get a full set of gear, concocting a ton of details in her mind.

If that was really the case, it could be described as an all-encompassing, fully exposed powder keg, where any inconsistency could lead to a serious accident.

Like now, for instance.

Fu Qian recalled the elderly man who had burst out earlier.

From his appearance, he could almost certainly be confirmed to be someone on the brink of death.

And as is widely known, nothing stimulates the nerves more than death itself.

So the reason for this man’s madness, could it be the fear of death, conflicting with his instinctive delusions, thus triggering an abnormal change?

The reason Kelly suddenly became so adamant was probably the same.

Everything she was currently witnessing was beyond her understanding, and under intense stimulation, she could no longer maintain her ingrained cognition.

At the moment, this seemed like the most rational explanation.

It’s impressive that she managed to get hold of a real gun, especially if I’m not mistaken, firearms are strictly controlled in this world.

Of course, now is not the time to be curious about that. Fu Qian lifted his head and surveyed his surroundings.

From the deaths of two people, in just a few breaths, the surroundings had become ghostly.

The outpatient building, which had been shiny and bright just moments ago, had now become a scene straight out of a horror movie, decrepit under the torrential rain.

[Current mission has been updated: Confirm your own condition]

Just then, a new mission prompt finally rang out in his mind, and the content was… truly hard to describe.

I mean, come on…

In the silence, Fu Qian once again felt the eeriness of the current mission.

No matter how you put it, given the string of events that had unfolded, a normal development would be to run for one’s life, right?

What the heck does “confirm your condition” mean?

Not to mention that I seem to be quite alright, even though this place is indeed a hospital, it’s not likely that I’ll be able to register for an appointment!

In the torrential rain, Fu Qian stared at the ruins around him, lost in thought.

A deserted hospital, no doctors, confirming one’s condition… The next moment, Fu Qian thought of something and quickly walked to one side.

On the inevitable path to hospital admission, there was a rust-stained sign.

Fu Qian approached with his umbrella, carefully discerning the contents on it.

This was a floor plan of the hospital.

Although it was stained in several places, Fu Qian still managed to locate the office building on it.

Just because there were no doctors now, doesn’t mean there weren’t any before.

That was what Fu Qian thought.

Suppose in this deteriorating world, if I truly am a patient, could it be that I’ve visited the hospital before? Perhaps even been hospitalized?

And if that were the case, Fu Qian knew there was a place where he could check past records—the medical records room.

According to the floor plan, the office building was right behind the outpatient clinic, connected to it.

Glancing into the distance, Fu Qian made what could only be described as a mad decision in the next moment.

Instead of following the path, he headed straight toward the massive breach that had been made.

The reason for doing so wasn’t to seek a thrill.

The changing scenes before his eyes were truly baffling, and Fu Qian vaguely remembered that when the old man had burst out earlier, there had been bursts of shouting coming from inside.

Yet now, after standing here for so long, there was not a sound from within the building.

Combining the changes that the two of them had undergone a moment ago, it was reasonable to suspect that the people inside had met with the same fate.

At this moment, the thunderstorm outside was torrential, visibility was extremely poor, and rather than fumbling along the path and being targeted by any hidden dangers inside the building, it would be less risky to proceed directly through the inside where the enemy would be clear and he would be in the dark upon entering the door.

…

Inside the outpatient building, it was equally dark and dilapidated.

The only consolation was that the air wasn’t as foul as he had imagined; it was actually quite refreshing.

After confirming there were no moving things in his field of vision, Fu Qian pressed on quickly, observing his surroundings with the help of the flashing lightning.

About ten minutes later, he arrived at the location leading to the office building.

The locks along the corridor had decayed completely and Fu Qian broke through them with little effort.

As he pushed the door open, Fu Qian felt a strange sensation as if the air had acquired an odd scent.

“This should be the place,” he said.

Quickly finding the floor plan, Fu Qian immediately located the medical records room.

Luckily, the records room was conveniently on the first floor side.

In the dimness, Fu Qian groped his way forward, but in the near-absolute silence, every step sounded conspicuously loud no matter how stealthy he was.

Eventually, in a corner of the office building, Fu Qian found the destination of his journey.

The door to the medical records room was even left open; Fu Qian slowly pushed it open and using the flickering lightning, made sure there were no creatures inside.

Fu Qian didn’t hesitate, making his way to the shelf where the files were stored.

The shelves looked as if they had heavily decayed, part of them even collapsing.

Fortunately, despite the pouring rain, it was still daylight, and Fu Qian, using the weak light, quickly began to search through the relatively intact documents.

The first thing he looked for were the mental health records.

Considering the current eerie circumstances, once he’d confirmed there was nothing obviously wrong with his body, his first suspicion was his mental state.

Luckily, the mental health section seemed to have been kept reasonably intact.

Fu Qian was extremely efficient in his search, starting from the most recent records and working backward; after flipping through dozens of documents, he finally saw his own name on a file folder.

There it really was!

Fu Qian pulled the folder out.

Although he had found something, he couldn’t help but feel that this world was getting stranger and stranger!

Fu Qian tapped the file folder in his hand, and according to the mission requirements, he just needed to open it to confirm his own diagnosis.

But…

Just as Fu Qian was about to open it, he suddenly stopped.

It wasn’t that he feared discovering something wrong with his brain, but rather he suddenly remembered something.

He recalled the scent he had smelled upon entering the office building.

It was the aroma of coffee!
