I Return From Hell

Chapter 31: Chapter 29: Blood Butterfly

”!!!”

Xie Shaokun’s expression was one of shock. He clearly hadn’t expected Xia Yu to be so decisive and ruthless, giving Brother Li no chance at all. His perception of her was completely overturned.

”I...”

Brother Li froze, a look of despair in his eyes. He begged for his life, ”Our grudge isn’t that deep, is it? Why do you have to kill me? Forcing me to commit suicide makes you guilty, too.”

”You’ll face legal consequences.”

Heh.

’You say our grudge isn’t deep? That’s only because I was reborn. If I hadn’t been, if everything had followed the same path as my last life, my brother’s tragedy would have been repeated.’

Xia Yu almost laughed in anger. She said, ”Do I really need to list out every filthy thing that goes on in this White Building?”

”Your crimes are too numerous to list.”

”Killing you a thousand times over wouldn’t be enough.”

”And you’re unhappy about getting to kill yourself?”

Hearing this, Brother Li’s pupils contracted.

”What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”

He wasn’t a child. He wouldn’t confess his crimes over a few words. With a look of innocence, he said, ”Don’t accuse people without proof.”

”I think there might be a misunderstanding between us. While I am the owner of the White Building, I don’t get involved in many things. My subordinates handle it all.”

”Maybe you discovered some of their illegal activities, but I knew nothing about it.”

’Wow, you’re really trying to wash your hands of everything.’

’Dead men tell no tales, after all.’

Thinking of those poor women, tortured for so long, their lives completely ruined, Xia Yu’s eyes grew cold. ”Xie Shaokun,” she said icily, ”kill him.”

Hearing this, Xie Shaokun shuddered, still hesitant.

”I’ll fucking kill you, you bitch.”

Brother Li realized Xia Yu was determined to kill him, so he decided to go all out. In that moment, he revealed his final ounce of ferocity and viciousness, snatching a machete from the floor and lunging at Xia Yu.

But how could Xia Yu give him the chance?

”THWACK.”

A long leg whistled through the air.

The machete clattered to the ground. Brother Li skidded across the floor, rolled a dozen times, and slammed hard against the wall. His head was bleeding, and his consciousness began to fade.

In the next instant, the situation took a sudden turn.

”Ah!”

”SQUELCH.”

Number 9, who had been trembling on the floor the whole time, grabbed the nearby machete and swung with all her might.

She was just an ordinary person with no aim.

This strike was aimed at Brother Li’s neck, but it ended up hitting his face instead.

Fresh blood splattered.

It sprayed across Number 9’s face, but instead of frightening her, it drove her into a frenzy, and she began swinging the machete even more wildly.

One strike.

Two strikes.

...

”You pursued me, made me believe in love, and I got pregnant with your child. I never thought you were a beast in human skin! You used our child to threaten me, forcing me to service your clients, and I did everything you said.”

”But why did you still have to kill our child?”

”Why?”

She screamed as she hacked at him, having completely lost her mind.

Only when Brother Li was completely dead, no longer even twitching, did she finally stop, exhausted. She murmured to herself, ”This world is more terrifying than Hell.”

”Why linger?”

”SQUELCH.”

With that, Number 9 suddenly slit her own throat with the machete and fell to the ground, dead.

Before she died, a look of release appeared on her face.

Her final thought was: ’Thank you, to this bizarre incident, for giving me the chance to take revenge, to vent years of resentment. I can go with no regrets.’

”You...”

Xie Shaokun wanted to stop her, but it was too late. He was profoundly shaken, standing frozen on the spot.

Xia Yu remained silent.

”ROAR.”

Just then, the roars of the Mutants were heard again.

Xia Yu was not surprised by this.

She calmly walked over to Yisuti’s body, pulled out her Butterfly Knife, and then walked toward Domidi. ”Xie Shaokun,” she said, ”they’re all yours.”

”While you’re at it, crack open their skulls and see if there are any Crystal Cores.”

”If there are, take them out and give them to me.”

In the first half of the fight, she had been confident of victory, so she hadn’t bothered to finish off the corpses. She was waiting for them to mutate. This would both give Xie Shaokun some practice and increase the chances of getting Crystal Cores.

In the second half of the fight, when she realized things were getting out of control, it was already too late to act.

Fortunately, she had managed to stabilize the situation.

As her words fell, Xia Yu was already in front of Domidi, unhesitatingly plunging the Butterfly Knife into its chest, right where its heart was.

Domidi’s body actually twitched again.

It was a testament to the tenacious life force of the Long-tongued Clan.

”HUMMM.”

The Heaven and Earth Spiritual Power fluctuated once more.

A look of anticipation appeared on Xia Yu’s face.

The Butterfly Knife’s quality had now risen by another level and a half. It had turned completely blood-red and was deepening toward crimson. Its toughness and sharpness were now quite rare, its value having increased more than a hundredfold.

In simple monetary terms, if it was once a toy worth a few yuan, it was now a rich man’s plaything worth tens of thousands.

They were completely incomparable.

Not to mention, its greatest value lay in its all-around enhancement, especially the drastically increased damage it dealt to Spiritual Life.

And the enhancement wasn’t over yet!

Domidi’s Spiritual Heart was a sliver stronger than Yisuti’s. It should be able to raise the Butterfly Knife’s quality by at least another half-level, completing another transformation.

By then...

’...it will finally become a truly deadly weapon.’

Xia Yu took a deep breath, her emotions already stabilized, her expression as calm as still water.

With a grim face, Xie Shaokun wordlessly picked up a machete and walked out of the monitoring room.

「Soon.」

The sounds of battle rang out.

Xia Yu paid it no mind, nor did she plan to interfere.

First, Xie Shaokun already had a rudimentary grasp of his superpower. Combined with a sharp weapon like the machete, his much more mature mindset, and oh, right, that half-assed kung fu he’d learned, he could definitely take on a Mutant one-on-one.

Second, the initial Mutants had all been slaughtered. The current ones were all reanimated from corpses, and most of them had already been killed, leaving only a few. Furthermore, the remaining corpses would mutate one after another, not all at once. As long as Xie Shaokun finished his fights quickly enough, he wouldn’t get surrounded, so the risk wasn’t high.

Third, Xie Shaokun had fought Mutants before and knew how to kill them. He had experience, which reduced much of the fear he felt when facing them.

And finally, Xie Shaokun was currently filled with rage. He had the hot-blooded courage of youth and was unafraid of death, which would surely boost his combat power.

If he couldn’t even deal with these Mutants under these circumstances...

’Then he’s utterly useless.’

’He’ll have no right to grow into one of the Strong People in the future.’

「One minute later.」

”It’s done!”

Sensing that the Spiritual Heart had completely withered, Xia Yu’s eyes lit up. She reached into Domidi’s chest and pulled out the Butterfly Knife.

Its entire body was dark red.

She flicked the blade, and it vibrated like a butterfly’s wings.

At that moment, she was certain the Butterfly Knife had transformed once again.

It had risen a full tier in every aspect.

A rarity in this world!

On a whim, Xia Yu took it over to the monitoring room’s door and made a light slash.

There was no grating sound of metal scraping against metal.

Instead, it felt like slicing through tofu.

Effortlessly, a gash was cut into the monitoring room door. She had even used a little too much force, carving a deep mark into the floor as well.

Its sharpness was far greater than she had imagined.

”From now on, I’ll call you Blood Butterfly.”
