I Return From Hell

Chapter 15: Chapter 13: I’m Sorry, I Just Want to Live

”BAM.”

In a flash of movement, Nie Xiaoyu was sent crashing to the ground, where she remained, stunned, for a long moment.

Xia Yu’s physical fitness at this point was already approaching that of a Third-level athlete. She knew how to channel her strength, possessed terrifying control over her body, and, most importantly, had incredibly rich combat experience. She was simply no match for a combat rookie like Nie Xiaoyu.

However, Xia Yu didn’t press the attack.

There were still a little over ten minutes until the Mist Event was over. She had to keep stalling for time, which meant Nie Xiaoyu couldn’t die just yet.

Although she had more or less confirmed that this Ghost Clan member killed its victims through possession and hallucinogenic means, she didn’t want to confront it directly unless it was a last resort.

”You’re quite good.”

Zhang Chi looked at Nie Xiaoyu and spoke up. ”You’re quite ruthless. I like that about you. But you’re lacking in other areas. Who should I choose?”

His gaze swept over the three of them, his expression conflicted.

”How about this? The three of you fight to the death. The one left standing will become my partner.”

He spoke after a few seconds.

At his words, Nie Xiaoyu’s eyes lit up.

She had already fallen into despair, certain she would die. She never thought there would be another chance to live.

Li Xiaopeng, however, was stunned.

’I can still live?’

’What does he mean?’

Nie Xiaoyu immediately looked at Li Xiaopeng, her mind racing. She had to convince him to go after Xia Yu first. If they both wound up gravely injured, she could be the one to profit from their conflict.

This was her only chance to survive.

”Hm?”

Only Xia Yu frowned. She looked at Zhang Chi and asked, ”You’re a male ghost. If Li Xiaopeng wins, are you really going to let him become your partner?”

”Who said I’m a male ghost?”

Shaking his head, Zhang Chi replied, ”I have no gender. I just want to find an outstanding partner. I don’t care in the slightest if they’re a man or a woman.”

Xia Yu fell silent.

Evidently, even she hadn’t anticipated such a twist.

Memories of the ’Asexual Ghost’ surfaced in her mind:

The Asexual Ghost. To them, there is no difference between male and female, yet they are obsessed with finding a partner. As for their requirements, each Asexual Ghost is unique.

Furthermore, if one wants to live, one must never become its partner.

Because...

Only a ghost can be with a ghost.

’What a pain,’ Xia Yu thought, her delicate brows furrowing slightly.

She couldn’t let the Asexual Ghost choose her, but she also couldn’t be the first one eliminated. It was an incredibly difficult balance to strike.

Meanwhile, Li Xiaopeng was ecstatic.

”There’s no need to fight.”

He spoke decisively. ”Lord Ghost, you only need me. You don’t have to test the other two.”

”I am your most suitable partner.”

”Anything they can do, I can do. And things they can’t do, I can do those too.”

Recalling Xia Yu’s recent move and her performance before that, he knew he had no confidence in beating her. He didn’t want to fight at all.

”You...”

Nie Xiaoyu froze, her plan completely ruined. She couldn’t help but say, ”No wonder you rejected Yu Xiaoxiao’s advances. So this is why.”

”You’re disgusting.”

Xia Yu’s brow twitched, and she subtly took a step back.

Zhang Chi was clearly taken aback by Li Xiaopeng’s words. He thought for a moment, then said, ”I suppose that’s not out of the question.”

PHEW.

Hearing this, Li Xiaopeng let out a huge sigh of relief.

”Sorry, I just want to survive.”

Li Xiaopeng paid no mind to their stares; in fact, he’d seen looks like that far too many times. ”If you have any last words, go ahead and say them.”

”After all this is over, I’ll help if I can.”

Nie Xiaoyu instinctively glanced at Xia Yu. She hesitated for a moment, then asked, ”Team up?”

She never imagined that their adversarial relationship could flip in the blink of an eye. How ironic.

Without even glancing at her, Xia Yu looked at Li Xiaopeng and warned, ”How can a human become a ghost’s partner? By becoming a ghost, naturally! Only a ghost can be with a ghost. It’s going to kill you.”

Hearing this, Li Xiaopeng shot a questioning look at Zhang Chi.

Zhang Chi nodded.

Li Xiaopeng’s mood instantly plummeted from a mountaintop to a valley, a complete emotional roller coaster. He asked with a pleading look, ”Is there no way for me to survive?”

Zhang Chi shook his head.

”This... I... Then I still want to be Lord Ghost’s partner,” Li Xiaopeng said, gritting his teeth. ”Between dying sooner or later, I choose later.”

”Besides, even if I die, I can still exist in the form of a ghost. That’s better than having my soul scattered to the winds!”

At these words, Zhang Chi revealed a satisfied expression.

”It’s decided then. You.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the Ghost Clan spirit shot out of Zhang Chi’s body and pounced on Nie Xiaoyu.

”Ugh... No... No...”

Nie Xiaoyu’s face twisted in a struggle.

No one had expected this sudden turn of events.

Xia Yu’s expression grew serious. She glanced at the time again. There were ten minutes left.

And the Servant Spirit Species had yet to appear.

’Is it time to fight?’

’It’s unavoidable after all.’

She took the hair tie from her wrist and pulled her long hair back. Then, unhurriedly, she put on a pair of white gloves and picked up the baseball bat she had already spotted leaning against the sofa, preparing for battle.

”SHK.”

A moment later, Nie Xiaoyu plunged the fruit knife in her hand into her own chest.

Her entire body trembled.

Dead.

”WHOOSH.”

A ghostly wind swept by.

The hairs on Xia Yu’s arms stood on end as she felt a pressure even greater than before.

Clearly, this was because the Ghost Clan member was now focusing its full power on her.

However, her willpower was incredibly resilient and her endurance was astonishing. Even as she felt her soul being pricked by needles, she remained perfectly composed.

’Nine minutes left.’

Xia Yu mentally calculated the time.

However, in the next moment...

The Ghost Clan member was also expending a great deal of energy and was unwilling to continue the confrontation like this. It was trying to figure out how to break the stalemate.

Just then, Zhang Chi’s body suddenly moved.

His corpse, transformed by the Heaven and Earth Spiritual Power, had become a Mutant!

”ROAR.”

It let out an inhuman roar.

He lunged toward a corpse on the floor and began to tear at it, easily ripping off large chunks of flesh.

’This is bad!’

Xia Yu’s expression flickered.

If the Ghost Clan member possessed that body and used it against her, things would become extremely troublesome.

Just imagine how terrifying it would be: a Mutant with intelligence.

Just as she was about to charge forward and kill it,

the Mutant’s movements abruptly froze.

Xia Yu froze, realizing that things were developing in the exact direction she had feared.

”I never thought you human corpses were such treasures, becoming this powerful even after death.”

The skeletal form of Zhang Chi spoke again.

Mutants can only roar, they can’t speak. It’s not because their vocal cords are damaged, but because their brains are. Now, possessed by the Ghost Clan spirit, it was as if it had a ’brain,’ so naturally, it could speak human words.

”THWACK. THWACK. THWACK.”

Xia Yu rushed to Nie Xiaoyu’s corpse and swung the baseball bat, smashing it into her skull several times.

Then, she moved on to the other corpses.

She had to ensure these corpses wouldn’t turn into Mutants.

Otherwise, her situation would become even more dire.

Zhang Chi watched Xia Yu with extreme admiration. ”You are the most outstanding creature I have ever met,” he said. ”Stop resisting. I can allow you to become my partner.”

Hearing this, Li Xiaopeng’s expression changed dramatically...
