Breaking SSS-Rank Heroines

Jinhae

Too wide. Too open.

Seojun came in like a storm that had forgotten how to aim.

Iron Palm chained into sword cuts, sword cuts into elbows, elbows into knees. The wooden blade whistled past my ear close enough to part hair. Qi roared off him in thick waves, heating the air, kicking dust into little cyclones around our feet.

He still didn’t understand.

I watched the blue lattice of Mind Evolution paint every line of force across my vision. Hip turn. Shoulder drop. The exact moment the Qi left his lower dantian and flooded the striking limb. The more he poured out, the brighter the paths glowed. Basic circulation. The foundation every disciple learned. Force moves through meridians. Meridians must stay clean. A single kink, a single foreign pulse at the wrong instant, and the river turns back on itself.

He had been dumping Qi like a broken dam for three full minutes.

Another horizontal cut. I ducked. The follow-up rising knee aimed at my ribs. I turned a finger-width and the wind of it kissed my robe. The crowd noise had become a single low roar. Some still shouted for Seojun. Most had gone quiet.

“Still holding back?” I asked, voice light, almost conversational. The cane tapped once as I reset. “I can wait all day, little brother. Take your time. Really put your back into it.”

Seojun’s face twisted.

“Fucking cripple—!”

He planted both feet and wound up for the finishing combination. Full Iron Palm into a descending sword smash. Every scrap of Qi he had left poured into the strike. The air itself compressed around his arms. Muscles stood out in hard ridges. Veins bulged along his neck. The wooden sword blurred.

There.

I triggered Mind Evolution.

The needle of pure intent left my mind like a thrown spike and drove straight through the soft meat of his concentration. Seojun’s body locked mid-motion. Eyes glazed for one perfect second. The roaring Qi stuttered. His balance wavered. The descending sword slowed just enough.

I stepped in.

Open palm. I set it flat against the center of his chest, right over the sternum, and pushed.

The touch landed with a dull, wet little thump.

Seojun’s eyes cleared. He staggered half a step back, looked down at my hand still resting on his robes, and barked a raw laugh.

“That’s it?” He shoved my palm away like it was a fly. “That’s your big counter? A fucking pat? You’re even weaker than the rumors, Hyung.”

He raised the wooden sword again, Qi flaring hotter than before, ready to end it.

The first drop of blood hit the packed earth between us.

Then another.

Seojun froze.

A thick red line ran from his left nostril. Another from the right. He blinked, confused, and wiped with the back of his free hand. The smear came away bright and wet. His mouth opened to snarl something else and blood poured over his lower lip in a sudden dark flood, spattering the front of his open training robes.

The sword slipped from his fingers.

He dropped to one knee. Both hands clutched his chest. A wet, choking cough tore out of him and painted the dirt scarlet. More blood ran from his ears. His eyes went wide—the first crack I’d ever seen in him.

Qi reversal.

The river he had forced so hard had found the tiny kink my Will left in the flow and turned. Every scrap of power he had poured into that strike now hammered back. The body tried to contain what the mind had unleashed and failed.

Instructor Hwang moved fast.

“Stop! Match over!” His scarred hand chopped the air. “Healers! Now! Qi deviation!”

Two household physicians and three senior servants exploded from the veranda. They reached Seojun as he toppled sideways. Blood still poured from nose and mouth in thick ropes. His limbs jerked once, twice. The scarred instructor pressed fingers to Seojun’s wrist, face going pale under the old scars.

“Meridian backlash. If we don’t stabilize him now he could lose the ability to cultivate. Move!”

They lifted him. Seojun’s head lolled. One bloodshot eye found me through the chaos. Hatred and incomprehension burned there. I held the gaze until they carried him past the weapon racks and out of the courtyard.

Silence crashed down over the packed earth.

No one spoke. No one moved. The entire household stood frozen in a loose ring, mouths open, eyes darting between the bloodstains on the dirt and the crippled eldest son who still stood calmly with a cane in one hand.

I straightened.

The cane tapped once as I turned a slow circle, meeting as many eyes as I could. Then I looked where Seolhwa stood with arms still folded. The boyish mask cracked just enough to show real interest. Ahyun remained at the ring’s edge, both hands pressed over her mouth. Tears shone at the corners of her wide azure eyes.

I faced the northern veranda.

Kang Daewon had not risen. Yet his face had finally changed from the stone-cold expression. Surprise.

I limped forward until I stood at the base of the short steps. My voice carried clean across the dead quiet.

“Father.”

He looked down at me.

“I won.”

A muscle jumped once in his jaw.

“The terms were clear,” I continued, eloquence sliding into every syllable. “The winner takes the Academy slot. Full family support. Full funding. Complete autonomy.” I let the last two words hang. “I expect the plaque.”

Daewon stared at me for a long breath. The courtyard held its breath. Somewhere far back a servant dropped a broom and the clatter sounded like thunder.

Then he stood.

One hand disappeared into his sleeve and returned with a rectangular plaque of dark lacquered wood edged in pale gold. The seal of the Murim Alliance and the crest of the Royal Academy sat side by side in raised relief. He descended the three steps slowly, stopped in front of me, and held it out.

I took it.

“The slot is yours,” Daewon said. His voice stayed flat, but the words were the words. “Support. Funding. Autonomy. House Kang will not interfere.” A pause. The faintest narrowing of his eyes. “Do not make me regret this, Jinhae.”

I inclined my head the exact polite degree a victorious son owed a patriarch who had just been forced to rewrite the future of his house.

“I would not dream of it.”

I turned without waiting for dismissal. The crowd parted for me. Whispers started the moment I passed, already rewriting the story of the useless eldest into something dangerous.

Ahyun fell into step half a pace behind me, close enough that the heat of her body reached me. Seolhwa watched me until I left her line of sight.

The Academy road was open.
