Peerless Divine Doctor

Chapter 2848: Chapter 2849: The General’s Death

Even more crucial was that this Prince was no ordinary member of the Nobility; he was a man of the army, a General in the military who commanded over a thousand soldiers—a Prince who wielded real power.

He had already been drawn over by the Twelfth Prince, so his future was destined to be limitless.

Precisely because he came from the army, and because his soldiers were watching all around, if he refused to fight, his prestige in the army would inevitably plummet to rock bottom.

What the army values most is morale! And what is morale? Some say it is fighting spirit! Others say it is a kind of spirit—a spirit that never admits defeat, that never retreats!

And what the army loathes most is deserters!

Would this Prince become a deserter? Clearly not. When that Assassin provoked him, he practically didn’t even think before leaping onto the stage. This alone made even Ye Luo feel a surge of respect, because back in the day, he too had led troops, and that same spirit was etched into his bones.

”Good. I respect you as a warrior, so I won’t let you suffer too much.” The Assassin said coldly.

But the General only sneered. ”Likewise, I’ll give you a clean end!”

Then, the two began to fight.

With the experience from the previous bout, this General naturally acted with utmost caution. Moreover, he himself was born on the battlefield, with extremely rich combat experience. For a time, that Assassin couldn’t do anything to him; he even found chances to counterattack!

At this, everyone finally let out a long breath. It seemed that the previous noble had simply been careless!

Yet just as everyone was thinking this, that young man sent out another strand of Sword Qi, and its power suddenly surged significantly!

Even though the General was on guard, he still found it hard to withstand. This had nothing to do with whether he was careful or not; it was a matter of Strength—a difference in Strength!

Ye Luo narrowed his eyes at once. This Sword Qi was absolutely abnormal. Or rather, this was a secret technique: this young Assassin was burning his own lifespan in exchange for Strength!

It could also be said that he was overdrawing his future Strength. This kind of secret technique was unfathomable, but the damage it inflicted on a Cultivator’s lifespan was immeasurably great, and the portion of lifespan it consumed could not be replenished by any means.

Generally speaking, when a Cultivator’s lifespan was nearing its end, they could take certain rare heaven-and-earth treasures to extend their life by a few years—that wasn’t a problem. But for Cultivators who had used this kind of secret technique, it was completely useless!

Moreover, if they used it multiple times, the lifespan consumed would increase accordingly! These Assassins were literally gambling with their own lives.

This time, however, the General was in dire straits. Yet during this tournament on the Heroes Ranking, no one was allowed to intervene. Even those closest to him could only watch helplessly as he went to his death.

Sure enough, just as Ye Luo had predicted, this General spewed blood into the sky and died on the spot.

The venue fell into dead silence. In just this short span of time, two genius nobles had lost their lives.

One had to know that the status of these two was by no means low. The first one was one thing, but the latter was a Prince, and moreover a General. Even the King of Huainan would not casually order the execution of such a figure!

Though this birthday banquet appeared calm on the surface, in the Royal Capital a storm had no doubt already been stirred up!

The death of a Prince—who knew how many things that would drag out?

Everyone stared at the young man on the stage. This hotheaded brat had just poked a hornet’s nest.

Yet he showed no awareness of this at all; instead, he hefted his sword once more. Clearly, he still had one final chance. So, who would he challenge?

”I’ll be the one to face you.”

At that moment, a figure suddenly appeared on the arena.

According to the rules, he wasn’t the only one who could challenge others; others could challenge him as well.

When they saw this young man, the crowd couldn’t help but cry out in surprise.

This man was a major figure in the Royal Capital. He was the former champion of the previous Heroes Ranking, who had gone straight into the army to become a vanguard Great General, commanding ten thousand soldiers, and was said to have already earned numerous military merits!

If he continued at this pace, he would inevitably become a Great General. Many people already regarded him as a role model. Before this, he had been merely a Loose Cultivator, but now he had leaped into the ranks of the new Nobility—a true inspirational example.

Of course, anyone who could become the previous champion naturally had some real skills.

Many people also relaxed a bit. With this powerhouse stepping onto the stage, that hotheaded brat opposite him surely wouldn’t be able to win again!

”I surrender!”

To everyone’s surprise, that hotheaded brat directly withdrew his sword and actually conceded!

This left everyone dumbfounded. The contrast was simply too stark. Just a second ago, this hotheaded brat had been incomparably domineering, cutting down two genius nobles in succession, with an air of fearing neither Heaven nor Earth!

And now? He suddenly conceded. How could there be such a person!

Yet Ye Luo felt that this was precisely the nature of an Assassin: kill when you can, and if you can’t kill, then hide; he would not throw his life away.

The premise, however, was that the former champion would be willing to let him go.

As expected, the latter gave a cold snort. ”You think you can just walk away after killing people? We haven’t even fought—how can you surrender?”

With that, he threw a punch. With this punch, the space above the arena collapsed in chunks.

The power of that single punch was terrifying to the extreme!

The young man, however, was even more decisive. With a boom, his physical body suddenly exploded, causing that overwhelmingly domineering punch to land on empty ground.

Many in the crowd were puzzled. Had that hotheaded brat been blown apart by a single punch? Clearly not. The moment before the champion’s Mana touched him, his body had already exploded.

There were only two possibilities now: either he had killed himself, or he had escaped.

Immediately, people chose the latter. No idiot would commit suicide in such a situation, and besides, even suicide would leave behind traces! Therefore, he had escaped.

Ye Luo, however, had already noticed that from the moment the champion appeared, that Assassin had activated an escape Cultivation Technique—another secret technique! As for the damage it did to the body, Ye Luo no longer even wanted to analyze it. Assassins were inherently well-versed in concealment and escape techniques; if they couldn’t achieve a one-strike kill, then even escaping from the hands of a Martial Emperor Realm powerhouse was not out of the question.

”Damn it!” the champion roared, but he was helpless, for he simply couldn’t lock onto the Assassin’s whereabouts.

He stood on the arena, sword in hand, silent for a long time. As the previous champion, by rights, he should not have taken the stage this early.

As for the others, they naturally had no desire to challenge him; instead, they were all guessing whom he intended to challenge!

After all, whoever he chose to challenge would be the one in trouble!
