Peerless Divine Doctor

Chapter 1416: Chapter 1417: Earth-Shattering Mission

During a rest period, one of them chose suicide due to unbearable pain from serious injuries.

However, what the rest didn’t expect was that they miraculously passed the assessment!

That is to say, they had lost enough people that each of the remaining individuals could now deal with ten Demon Beasts each!

What a bizarre assessment!

Especially after everyone returned, they only realized that the assessment was extremely odd.

This was not an assessment at all, but clearly an intentional act to have enough of them die!

However, it’s undeniable that these survivors had a significant improvement in their mental strength, no longer like before, fearing Demon Beasts upon hearing them, no longer the type who would fear death upon its mention!

It could be said that they had successfully undergone a life-and-death trial.

Perhaps this was Li Long’s ultimate goal.

Ye Luo and the others silently rested, waiting for the others to return.

But after waiting for a full seven days, less than a hundred people managed to return. Moreover, among these hundred, surprisingly, aside from Ye Luo’s group of seven, the rest had all survived by the skin of their teeth!

Their passage through the assessment was merely because they had been luckier with their lives than others.

Strength?

It seemed that the Border Guard didn’t care about their strength; after all, there were individuals who had not exerted much effort throughout the whole assessment, hiding at the sign of combat, or even fleeing immediately at any sign of unfavorable conditions.

Yet even such people had now passed the assessment, while those of somewhat greater strength, who fought at the forefront throughout the assessment, went unnoticed even in death!

When everyone had returned, that’s when Li Long finally made another appearance.

”Congratulations, you have successfully become members of the Border Guard. From today onwards, you are Border Guards. Over the next month, someone will teach you what it means to be a Border Guard, as well as informing you of your future tasks. Now, disperse!”

Li Long spoke indifferently, his demeanor and tone seemingly unconcerned about those who had passed the assessment.

No one knew why, nor did anyone dare to show their anger.

In fact, many were suppressing their rage.

This inexplicable assessment without even a hint at an explanation made them feel like mere playthings at the mercy of others, with no ability to resist.

”Oh yes, I almost forgot something. From today onward, you will be assigned as an independent unit within the Western Frontier Guard, Special Task Force Team One, with Ye Luo as the team leader. I will not interfere with anything regarding your Special Task Force Team One, so Ye Luo, you have the ultimate authority over life and death for your team!”

Li Long suddenly announced, leaving Ye Lu completely stunned. To become a team leader out of nowhere?

What on earth is Li Long trying to do?

Ye Luo was filled with doubts, but had absolutely no way to resist.

”Alright, Ye Luo, follow me!”

Ye Luo nodded and followed him.

Soon, Li Long led Ye Luo into a secret room.

”Do you have countless doubts in your mind now? Do you think I am unreasonable, disregarding human life? Do you think I’m deliberately playing with you?”

As soon as they entered the secret room, Li Long directly questioned Ye Luo.

Ye Luo was slightly startled. Yes, this was what Ye Luo thought, and probably what the entire Special Task Force Team One thought as well.

But little did he know, Li Long didn’t even give Ye Luo a chance to speak but instead said, ”Okay, take a look at this document, and you’ll understand why I did this!”

Ye Luo, bewildered, took the document.

Written documents are rare in the Martial Realm.

But the more Ye Luo read on, the more astonished his heart became.

It could even be described as terror.

It turned out that behind the bustling peace of the Great Tang Empire, there was a colossal conspiracy hidden!

The Great Tang Empire had been infiltrated by the Demon Clan!

And it was a comprehensive infiltration at that!

Even within the Royal Family, there were impostors from the Demon Clan!

What are impostors?

It was a special method developed by the Demon Clan!

In every region, be it among Human Race, Demon Clan, Demon Race, etc., the different races are always hostile to each other, and almost every region has its own strength.

The Ninth Region was no exception.

Originally, the Great Tang Empire was an empire entirely made up of Human Race. It could be said that in the Great Tang, even pets of Demon Beasts were restricted!

This was to prevent infiltration.

Surrounding the Great Tang Empire, there were empires of the Human Race, as well as empires of other races!

Among them, an empire known as Great Yuan, was in fact completely controlled by the Demon Clan!

Somehow, the Demon Clan of the Great Yuan Empire had developed a secret technique, a method that could change the appearance of a Demon Clan member into anyone of the Human Race. Such Demon Clan individuals were the impostors!

For many years, the Demon Clan secretly sent some of their own into the Great Tang Empire. It started with replacing ordinary civilians, then lesser nobility, greater nobility, until now, even members of the Royal Family had been replaced!

Even the Border Guards, upon learning of this information, were unable to report directly to the current Emperor!

Because no one knew how many impostors were in the Emperor’s surroundings!

The current Great Tang Empire was on the brink of danger, because at any moment, these Demon Clan impostors could take over all the nobility of the Great Tang Empire, and even all of its people!

It could be said that only the Border Guards had not yet been infiltrated by the impostors.

The reason why Ye Luo and his companions were suddenly drafted was, in fact, because of a secret plan—to infiltrate the Great Yuan!

Yes, Ye Luo and his companions would be sent to the Great Yuan.

If the Demon Clan could use impostors, why couldn’t the Great Tang Empire?

In fact, Ye Luo and his companions were just a small part of the operation. All four border Legions were conducting similar drafts, but Ye Luo and his companions were of a special status, because they were to impersonate nobility of the Demon Clan.

Why conduct such a bloody assessment?

It was merely to let everyone get used to the bloody world of the Demon Clan in advance.

Moreover, such assessments would continue.

Until Ye Luo and his companions were deemed fit enough to be dispatched.

”Do you understand now!”

Li Long’s voice came through, and Ye Luo nodded. He did indeed understand, but it was precisely because he understood that he felt so terrified.

Unexpectedly, Ye Luo had been unwittingly drawn into such a vast scheme, and moreover, he was not in a position to oppose it.

”Good that you understand. Your identity is special because you are to impersonate a Prince of the Demon Clan. I can’t tell you too much right now. In the future, someone will contact you directly. Remember to always pay attention to your communicator, as you will receive new tasks at any time. If you fail to complete any task, then you will be eradicated! Understand?”

Li Long spoke again.

Ye Luo continued to nod without uttering a word. Now it seemed there was absolutely no leeway for him to choose, so what more was there to say?
