Chapter 627: Chapter 252: Snake King

And so, a hawk and a snake entered the time of hide and seek.

After all, in the bamboo forest, there were too many small stones, and they were all connected, not far apart. With the yellow snake’s ability, it could instantly enter among them.

Moreover, the yellow snake was only about ten centimeters long and would curl up into a small ball, making it even smaller. So, even a stone the size of a fist was enough for it to hide within.

Thus, the little white hawk chased the yellow snake from dusk until midnight, for several hours.

Indeed, the stones in the bamboo forest were many, but they were limited. After several hours of pursuit, most of the stones in the bamboo forest had turned to powder. Even though there were still plenty of stones, the yellow snake’s stamina had reached its limit.

It had held on for so long because of its strong will to survive.

Finally, as the little white turned another stone into powder, the yellow snake’s speed diving into the stone was too slow, causing it to be caught by the little white’s sharp claws.

The little white felt the same resentment towards the yellow snake, for it had wasted so much of its time. It hadn’t had dinner yet, and was still hungry!

The moment it caught the yellow snake, the little white effortlessly split it in two. Though small, the snake’s peculiar abilities were useless without cultivation; its snake blood, snake bone, and snake gall were of no use and were tossed aside.

Just as it was about to leave and go home for dinner, a strong scent of blood wafted through the air. This blood scent contained the blood of several Demon Beasts, which made it very complex.

The little white looked around and found the bamboo forest here slightly different. The bottom section of each bamboo was tinged with a faint blood color, hinting that this was indeed the depths of the bamboo forest.

Unexpectedly, in its chase of the yellow snake, which wasn’t even a Snake Demon, it had unwittingly chased deep into the bamboo forest.

Upon first stepping into this bamboo forest, it could sense a powerful and cold presence. Even though it was still dormant, the sheer magnitude of the aura meant it wasn’t an opponent it could face. If awakened, who knows how strong it could be?!

However, if its commotion caused by chasing the yellow snake was neither big nor small, and no Demon Beast appeared in the bamboo forest’s depths, it was possible something important was happening, something so crucial they had no energy to guard the surroundings.

In that case, sneaking a peek shouldn’t cause any trouble!!

Thinking this, the little white’s imagination started to run wild, pondering this issue constantly.

Within this Great Mountain, its strength wasn’t unrivaled, but survival wasn’t an issue; regular Demon Beasts weren’t its match. Moreover, it had an advantage others didn’t have, the ability to fly.

Utilizing the Divine Eagle Skill, it was sure that within the Great Mountain, no Demon Beast on the ground could catch it; even birds of prey in the sky at most could tie with it.

Those who would make the bamboo forest their domain definitely wouldn’t be birds of prey; given that, its safety wasn’t at risk at all.

Also, the yellow snake was watching the Xu Family and had fled to the bamboo forest. Saying the two were unrelated was impossible; perhaps it was under the bamboo forest’s master’s orders.

Considering Master Xu Ran’s involvement, even if it were dangerous, some investigation was necessary.

After deciding, the little white followed the drifting scent of blood, slowly moving deeper in, towards the center. In the bamboo forest’s depths, a layer of mist hovered above, making it impossible to observe from above.

The closer it got to the center, the stronger the scent of blood became, and the nearby bamboo was slowly turning into towering giant trees.

These giant trees stood dozens of meters high, with extremely dense foliage at their tops, occasionally emitting white mist, presumably responsible for the white mist hovering over the bamboo forest’s depths.

Beneath these giant trees, thick tree stalks protruded from the ground, wrapping around the trees multiple times, each tinged with faint blood color.

Since the bamboo turned into giant trees, the vibe in the depths became more chilling, sending shivers down its spine just standing there.

After scanning the surroundings and finding no issues, the scent of blood grew denser, even causing the little white some discomfort.

Forcing itself to ignore this discomfort, the little white moved further into the bamboo forest’s depths. The air became foggier, almost blocking its view, but fortunately, with its keen sight, it could still see the road ahead despite the fog.

After walking a short distance, a ”gurgling” sound, like boiling water, reached its ears from not far away.

Upon hearing this sound, the fog in front gradually dispersed, revealing a vast blood-colored lake with several equally powerful Demon Beasts standing before it.

Reacting quickly, the little white hid behind a giant tree.

Once hidden, it peeked its head out to clearly see what lay ahead.

An enormous lake appeared, its waters entirely blood-red, with a jackal, wolf, tiger, and leopard stationed at each of its four corners.

The aura emanating from these four Demon Beasts was no weaker than the little white’s current strength.

And around the lake, hundreds of weaker Demon Beasts carried pots of unknown substances, pouring them into the blood-red lake.

Upon closer inspection, the pots were filled with blood and bones, still attached with bits of flesh, and the blood and bones exuded a reluctant aura from the Demon Beasts.

The scent of blood in the air seemed to originate from this blood-red lake.

Furthermore, the blood and bones of these Demon Beasts were only slightly weaker than the little white.

Seeing this sight, shock filled the little white’s eyes; it had thought with its strength, it could act recklessly in the Great Mountain, assured that if worse came to worst, it could at least escape.

But now, with buckets and carcasses of Demon Beasts only slightly weaker than it being slaughtered, their blood and bones poured into an unknown lake, it couldn’t fathom the kind of power a Demon Beast must have to achieve such things?!

Furthermore, how many Demon Beasts were slaughtered to turn an entire lake blood-red? How many Demon Beasts in the Great Mountain fell victim? What was the purpose of slaying so many Demon Beasts?

As the little white pondered these questions, a mound a little distance from the lake, stretching several hundred meters wide and reaching a height of ten meters, revealed itself. In the center of the mound was a cavern.

From within the cavern, suddenly emerged two blood-red eyes, bringing with them an even more chilling aura, making the little white shiver, its feathers unknowingly becoming slightly damp.

As the blood-red eyes appeared, bubbles began to emerge on the surface of the blood-colored lake, making the entire lake seem like it was boiling.

As the lake began to bubble, the stationed jackal, wolf, tiger, and leopard approached the cavern entrance. Each of the four Demon Beasts offered their own blood, drawing crimson runes at the cave’s entrance with it.

These runes, obscure and incomprehensible, left the little white unable to discern their purpose, but it guessed it was some sacrificial ritutal targeted at the blood-red eyes in the cave.

As soon as the blood runes were completed, the already bubbling lake surface erupted, sending red mist swirling towards the cave entrance’s blood runes.

Suddenly, the entire bamboo forest began to quake, bamboo and giant trees shaking and colliding, making a ”rustling” sound, top leaves of the giant trees crumbling to the ground.

As the forest shook more violently, the mound’s dirt fell away, gradually revealing what lay within to the little white.

There it saw a giant snake hundreds of meters long and nearly ten meters high, coiled in the bamboo forest’s depths, emanating a terrifying aura, red mist endlessly swirling on its surface. Just glancing at it caused the little white’s heart to involuntarily quiver, as if witnessing something incredibly unsettling.
