Baby with Daoist Monarch System

Chapter 612: Chapter 246: Giant Serpents

Xu Ran emerged from observing the state of the beast hide, and it was already evening. Even though the feast was held at noon, the Xu Family was still very lively in the evening.

Moreover, people from other villages continuously came to congratulate the Xu Family. Regardless of whether they had succeeded in body refining, they all received a heap of gifts, all of which were food, drinks, and fine silk.

The happiest about receiving these gifts was Lian Ji.

Quickly, a day passed, and even though the feast had ended, a large group of people stayed in the Xu Family’s yard to clean up.

Early the next morning, Xu Ran woke up to find the yard looking as if it had just been built, without a speck of dirt.

Noon.

Xu Ran’s neighbor, Old Xie, headed for the Great Mountain with a bow and arrow on his back and a Seven-leafed One-flowered Plant.

Old Xie, formerly the pharmacist of Great Wilderness Border Village, not only had the unique Seven-leafed One-flowered Plant but was also very knowledgeable in pharmacology, serving as the village’s physician. His title as a pharmacist was well-deserved.

A month ago, the poisonous snake raid on the village made him realize that many strange things were in the Great Mountain, and mere current pharmacological knowledge might no longer suffice. So he thought of entering the Great Mountain to collect various herbs and study pharmacology.

After successfully refining his body, he would enter the Great Mountain to research various herbs without fail every day, carrying the Seven-leafed One-flowered Plant as a precaution.

He passed through the narrow path in front of Xu Ran’s house, glimpsed through the door slit, and saw Xu Ran meditating in the yard before heading into the Great Mountain.

Upon entering the Great Mountain, he felt a strange chill, a chill that seemed somewhat familiar to him.

”What’s going on today? It feels like the Great Mountain has gotten colder!”

Though he said so, his actions became extremely cautious. After all, he had taken Old Qi’s hunter classes and knew that everything in the Great Mountain required caution, caution, and more caution.

Even though he had refined his body now, he hadn’t forgotten that demons now roamed the Great Mountain, and just the first body refining was not enough to handle them.

Old Xie walked carefully, step by step.

Suddenly, he spotted a red herb a hundred meters away, which immediately caught his attention.

”This herb, I’ve never seen it before. I wonder what effect it has?”

A bit excited, Old Xie moved quickly to examine it. When he was within ten meters of the herb, a familiar chill arose, causing his body to tremble.

Instinctively, he took a few steps back.

Suddenly, his gaze sharpened as a red, elongated figure flashed before him, merely a finger’s breadth from his nose.

Once he got a clear look at the creature that flashed before him, he was startled—a large snake with a red body appeared, similar in size to the one that entered the Great Wilderness Border Village a month ago.

”Gulp---”

Old Xie swallowed, muttering, ”It seems the big snake before me is a Snake Demon.”

For him now, the Snake Demon was still a completely insurmountable place in the Great Mountain. Upon encountering it, there was only one option, which was to run; otherwise, it was death.

”However, this big snake, despite its red body, looks different from the poisonous snake that invaded the village. But does it have venom?”

”Moreover, this big snake can actually pass right in front of his face, clearly not afraid of the Seven-leafed One-flowered Plant!!”

Now the effect of the Seven-leafed One-flowered Plant was getting weaker, likely related to the increasing strength of the big snakes in the Great Mountain.

Though Old Xie knew he couldn’t defeat the big snake before him, he still took down the big bow from his back and instantly bent the bow and set an arrow.

”Whoosh--”

An arrow shot accurately onto the snake’s body.

”Clang----”

The result was a crisp sound, like the sound of two steel blades clashing.

”This big snake is invincible to swords and spears! The arrow shot on it didn’t leave a mark, not even a scratch, and even made a crisp sound.”

Old Xie felt a little scared.

Even though he had just completed his first body refining, his strength had reached 600 pounds. Combined with the bow and arrow’s velocity, that arrow just now might have been close to a thousand pounds of force, yet the big snake remained unharmed.

If he had recklessly charged forward, he might have ended up directly in the snake’s mouth.

Additionally, it seemed the big snake in front was only guarding the red herb a hundred meters away. As long as he didn’t approach, he wouldn’t be attacked.

”With my current strength, it seems impossible to obtain that red herb.”

”It appears the flower bud on that red herb hasn’t bloomed yet. It might take some time to mature, so I’ll try again when my strength improves.”

After thinking it through, Old Xie left the area with the red herb.

...

Meanwhile, on the other side.

Old Qi was, as usual, taking the boys under fifteen from the village into the Great Mountain to learn various survival skills.

”Though most animals in the Great Mountain have turned into Demon Beasts, beasts are still beasts. Their instincts have not changed.”

”The Great Mountain is divided into hundreds of territories by various Demon Beasts, each territory hard-won by powerful Demon Beasts.”

”To keep other Demon Beasts from entering their territory, they’ll leave unique markings, such as excrement and snake molts...”

”Whenever you encounter related things in the Great Mountain, don’t enter lightly; otherwise, it will be seen as a provocation.”

Old Qi sternly warned the group, and the dozen children behind him listened intently.
