My Silly, Sweet Wife

Dr. Gu, named Gufang, is said to be a good friend of Zhou Haijun. This time he returned to the country with Zhou Haijun to further develop his career here.

Moreover, from what Zhou Haijun mentioned, Gufang is highly skilled in medicine, especially proficient in treating some difficult and complicated diseases.

Zhou Haijun had personally witnessed Gufang cure a critically ill patient with just a couple of taps on the head. Therefore, Zhou Haijun deeply trusted Gufang.

After Gufang came out, he took off his mask, smiled slightly and said, ”Haijun, fortunately, I didn’t fail you, the old man has woken up.”

”Really?” Zhou Haijun was overjoyed, grabbing Gufang’s hand and thanking him profusely.

Gufang modestly said, ”Haijun, no need to thank me. Your father is just getting old and had a sudden heart attack. Fortunately, I have some research in this area, otherwise, it wouldn’t have been so easy to treat him.”

”Dr. Gu, I’ve always said that there’s no illness you can’t cure. This is great.” Zhou Haijun released Gufang’s hand and said, ”Dr. Gu, you should rest for a bit. I’ll go in and see my father.”

”Alright.” Gufang nodded, ”Don’t mind me.”

Zhou Haijun nodded back and entered the bedroom.

Zhou Weijun hesitated for a moment but quickly rushed into the bedroom as well, where he indeed saw Zhou Huairen sitting up.

Although Zhou Huairen still looked a bit weak, his complexion had improved significantly.

”Dad, are you okay?” Zhou Haijun and Zhou Weijun surrounded Zhou Huairen, asking with concern.

Zhou Huairen gently shook his head, ”I’m fine, just a bit of fatigue. A little rest will do.”

”That’s great, really great!” Zhou Weijun let out a long sigh of relief.

”Haijun cast a sidelong glance at Zhou Weijun, ”Bro, didn’t you distrust the doctor I invited? Why now, are you counting on a green kid to save father?”

Zhou Weijun awkwardly smiled, ”Haijun, I was just worried for the moment. Don’t take it to heart.”

”Heh, even though I’m adopted, my feelings for Dad aren’t any less than yours.” Zhou Haijun snorted, grabbing Zhou Huairen’s hand and started chatting again.

But Zhou Huairen was staring quizzically at Zhou Weijun, ”Weijun, who else did you call?”

Now that Zhou Huairen was already awake, Zhou Weijun indeed felt that he had made a fuss. He could only laugh and say, ”Dad, seeing you suddenly unconscious, I got anxious and called Brother Ye. Now that you’re fine, I’ll go apologize to Brother Ye in a bit.”

”Mr. Ye?” Zhou Huairen heard this and patted Zhou Haijun’s hand, ”Haijun, that Mr. Ye is a friend of mine. I want to have a few words with him, okay?”

Zhou Haijun looked at Zhou Huairen puzzled, ”Dad, don’t you trust Dr. Gu or me? Do you want that kid to come in and examine you?”

Zhou Huairen smiled and shook his head, ”Haijun, you’re my child. How could I not trust you? I just feel a connection with Mr. Ye and want to ask him something.”

”Alright, I’ll call him.” Though reluctant, Zhou Haijun turned and called for Ye Guichen, ”Hey, kid, my dad wants you inside.”

He then waved at Gufang, ”Dr. Gu, come on, come and rest. I’m having a big lunch made right away, so don’t leave today.”

Gufang laughed heartily, ”Haijun, we’re old friends. I’ll obey then.”

”Dr. Gu, you are being too polite.” Zhou Haijun dragged Gufang towards the living room.

Ye Guichen then walked into the bedroom.

”Hello, Mr. Zhou.” Ye Guichen greeted.

Zhou Huairen nodded and said to Zhou Weijun, ”Weijun, you go out too. I want to speak with Mr. Ye alone.”

”Oh.” Zhou Weijun felt strange, wondering why his father seemed like a different person after waking up, insisting on talking to Ye Guichen.

However, Zhou Weijun said nothing and quickly walked out, closing the door behind him.

Once everyone had left, Zhou Huairen managed to sit up straight, gesturing for Ye Guichen to sit by the bed. His expression grew serious, ”Mr. Ye, about my illness…”

Ye Guichen had anticipated that Zhou Huairen would ask about his condition, and it seemed that Zhou Huairen had realized something as well.

”Mr. Zhou, let me check your pulse first.” Ye Guichen didn’t speak bluntly but took Zhou Huairen’s wrist and felt his pulse for a while.

In less than a minute, Ye Guichen released his hand and smiled at Zhou Huairen, ”Mr. Zhou, do you want to hear the truth or a lie?”

”Hm?” Zhou Huairen’s eyebrows furrowed, ”Mr. Ye, we’re old friends. I regard you as a lifelong friend, feel free to speak frankly.”

After a brief hesitation, Ye Guichen said, ”Do you remember when we first met, I said there was a problem with the tea you drank, that you were poisoned?”

Zhou Huairen was startled, then nodded, ”Of course I remember. Mr. Ye, about that…”

”Mr. Zhou, this time, you fainted again from poisoning, and if I’m not mistaken, it’s the same toxin as before found in your tea.”

”What?” Although Zhou Huairen had some suspicions, he still couldn’t believe it and quickly shook his head, ”Mr. Ye, are you kidding me? After you said the tea was poisoned, I stopped drinking it. So how could it be the same poison?”

Ye Guichen said, ”Mr. Zhou, think carefully. Have you consumed anything different in the past few days?”

”Something different?” Zhou Huairen looked at Ye Guichen strangely, ”Mr. Ye, didn’t you say that the toxin was accumulative and couldn’t act so quickly?”

”That was before. This time, the poison you ingested was much more concentrated, which caused you to faint suddenly.” After a pause, Ye Guichen added, ”You woke up now because someone stimulated your meridians, temporarily suppressing the toxin in you, but it doesn’t solve your problem completely.”

”What? You mean...” Zhou Huairen’s pupils contracted in disbelief as he looked at Ye Guichen.

Ye Guichen smiled, ”Mr. Zhou, as an outsider, some things shouldn’t be said by me, but since we get along well, I don’t want to see anything happen to you.”

”I understand, I understand.” Zhou Huairen nodded repeatedly, grateful, ”Mr. Ye, actually, there’s something I’ve never told you. That tea was handed to me by my adopted son, Zhou Haijun. When you said the tea had problems, I was suspicious, but he’s my brother’s son and usually very filial, so I didn’t think much of it. But now…”

Understanding Zhou Huairen’s concern, Ye Guichen comforted him, ”Mr. Zhou, some things aren’t always as they appear on the surface. From my observation, Zhou Haijun might not be aware of all this.”

”What?” Zhou Huairen looked at Ye Guichen puzzled, ”You mean there’s someone else involved?”

Ye Guichen shook his head, ”I’m not sure at the moment, but I do know a bit about face reading. While Zhou Haijun might be domineering, he seems genuinely concerned about you. It’s just that…”

”Mr. Ye, Mr. Ye, I understand, I understand.” Zhou Huairen saw Ye Guichen’s concerns. Hearing his words, he was grateful and said, ”Mr. Ye, could you do me a favor and not mention this to anyone else?”
