Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Mecha Manufacturing Room

Lin Jingjing and the others were only thinking about money now, determined to earn every last Star Coin they could.

They were determined to squeeze every last drop out of this opportunity.

Captain Li felt a pang of jealousy, but he still spoke in a sarcastic tone, ”Didn’t you all hate cooking?”

”So why are you all so enthusiastic now?”

Hearing Captain Li’s words, the group glanced back at him, then broke into wide smiles.

Lin Jingjing shouted loudly, ”They’re paying us, Captain Li!”

”It’s different.”

’So those guys are actually paying Star Coins just to have these little good-for-nothings cook them a delicious meal?’

’That really is different.’

”You lot really do have money on the brain,” Captain Li said, shaking his head in exasperation.

’Just a few Star Coins have these kids running around happily. They really don’t have much ambition.’

”Can’t be helped. We’re just too poor,” Lin Jingjing replied with a shrug of her shoulders.

He recalled how they couldn’t even afford proper meals at the beginning, subsisting only on that free Nutrient Liquid every day.

Captain Li let out a soft sigh. Poverty was the root of it all.

”How’s your special training going?” Captain Li asked with concern.

He was leaving the First Corps in a few months, and he wanted to use this time to get to know these youngsters better.

”Everything’s going great.”

The special training itself was a piece of cake for them, but they hadn’t officially started learning the things they were really interested in.

Shi Feng had only learned the bare basics of Mecha manufacturing, which he was eager to study, while Feng He had already started looking into the medical texts of this era.

Because they didn’t know anyone at the research institute, the corpses they had brought back from that park still hadn’t been dissected.

Their lives were now heading in a good direction. As long as they worked hard and stayed grounded, they were sure to carve out a place for themselves in the future.

”If there’s anything you can’t handle, or anything you want to do, you can tell me. I’ll help where I can before I’m transferred,” Captain Li said. He reached for his cigarettes, but the moment his hand touched the pack, he remembered he was in the kitchen—a strictly no-smoking area.

So he could only pull his hand back.

As soon as she heard this, Feng He’s eyes lit up.

She took a step forward and asked him, ”Anything?”

”As long as it’s within my power, yes.”

Feng He heard this and asked directly, ”Then can you get me a laboratory in the Mutant Beast Research Institute?”

Hearing Feng He’s request, Captain Li frowned. ’What does she need a lab for?’

’Those labs are places for freaks. Why would a young girl like Feng He make such a request?’

Seeing Captain Li remain silent for a long time, Feng He thought it was a lost cause and sighed. ”If it’s not possible, then never mind.”

’When I have some free time later, I’ll find a hidden place to do the dissection myself.’

’Something about those mutant beast corpses felt strange. She had been thinking about it for a very long time.’

”It’s possible,” Captain Li said, crossing his arms and looking at her. ”But you have to tell me what you need the lab for.”

”To dissect mutant beast corpses,” Feng He answered truthfully.

Hearing this answer, Captain Li choked. ’This little good-for-nothing is into dissections now?’

”Have you even studied forensic science?” Captain Li asked, sizing her up with a disbelieving gaze. She looked so delicate and fragile, the kind of girl who would inspire pity. ’She can handle something as bloody as dissection?’

Feng He chuckled. ”I have, I have.”

’Now Captain Li was even more baffled. What did she do before joining the First Corps? She even studied forensic science.’

’Still, if she wanted one, it wasn’t impossible to borrow a lab for her.’

”Alright, I’ll go ask that bunch of freaks at the Mutant Beast Research Institute if they have a spare one,” Captain Li agreed.

Having gotten his promise, Feng He blinked, a look of disbelief on her face.

’I didn’t expect Captain Li to be so capable in the First Corps. He could borrow a lab just by asking.’

Seeing that it had actually worked, Shi Feng hurried over and said, ”Captain Li, I want to borrow a Mecha Manufacturing Room!”

When he heard Shi Feng wanted to borrow a Mecha Manufacturing Room, Captain Li’s brow furrowed, and he looked at the boy as if he were completely ridiculous.

’He’s as weak as a little girl, and he’s talking about borrowing a Mecha Manufacturing Room? Does he even understand the principles of Mecha manufacturing?’

”Go on, get out of here. Don’t cause trouble,” Captain Li said, waving his hand dismissively at him. ”What do you know about Mecha manufacturing?”

Seeing how scornfully he was being treated, Shi Feng got a little angry. The captain was questioning his brilliant mind.

”Captain Li, you’re being biased,” Shi Feng said.

”What makes you think I don’t understand?”

”Besides, how will I know if I’m right or not if you don’t let me get some hands-on practice?”

Seeing him like this, Captain Li pinched the bridge of his nose. ”Fine, I’ll get you one.”

He remembered there was a small Mecha Manufacturing Room behind the vegetable sheds, supposedly left behind by the previous head of the logistics department.

’It’s perfect for this kid. At least he won’t be able to say I’m biased.’

After checking in on them, Captain Li left. He was in a hurry to get back to playing Star Soul.

The five of them watched his retreating back and exclaimed, ”Captain Li is a really good person.”

Lin Jingjing then interjected, ”What are you all standing around in a daze for? Hurry up and pack the food to be delivered!”

At Lin Jingjing’s reminder, the others snapped out of it and got busy.

After delivering the food, they looked at the extra thirty thousand Star Coins in their account, and the smiles on their faces couldn’t be contained.

”I can finally order the materials I wanted to buy,” Shi Feng said, looking at their balance of several hundred thousand Star Coins, a grin stretching from ear to ear.

Mutant beast skeletons, expensive flowers, ores, Mecha chips, engines—a whole series of materials all cost money.

And if his manufacturing attempt failed, all the money he spent would go down the drain.

However, Shi Feng didn’t plan to buy the rare materials that cost tens of millions of Star Coins. He intended to buy secondhand parts and try to build a Mecha himself.

If he succeeded, he would buy new parts. If not, he would keep modifying it.

The key to the Mecha Manufacturing Room was soon in Shi Feng’s hands. Captain Li gave him the address and left.

As for Shi Feng, he was so excited holding the key to the Mecha Manufacturing Room that he was almost speechless. An entire Mecha Manufacturing Room was his to use.

How could Shi Feng not be happy?

”Let’s go, let’s go check it out!” Shi Feng said, holding the key and excitedly calling the others to go with him.

They arrived at the small, constantly-shuttered building behind the vegetable sheds. The building wasn’t large and looked like a warehouse.

But who would have thought it was a Mecha Manufacturing Room?

”I’m opening it now,” Shi Feng said, muttering to himself as he stepped forward with an apprehensive heart.

”Hurry up and open it. We’re all waiting,” Mo Xuan said, watching him with his arms crossed.

Because he was so incredibly excited, the hand Shi Feng held the key with was trembling slightly.

After taking a moment to calm himself, Shi Feng finally inserted the key into the lock and turned it.

With a CLICK, the tightly locked door opened.

Pushing the main door open, the interior furnishings came into view.

Since no one had cleaned it for years, everything inside was covered in a thick layer of dust. The corners and ceiling were full of cobwebs.

The group took a few steps inside and, upon closer inspection, found that it was fully equipped with all the necessary tools. They wouldn’t have to spend extra money to buy them.
