Cultivation Begins with Daily Intelligence Reports

6: The century-old sweet potato was dug up entirely.”Don’t worry about so much, you two leave quickly!”

Lin Jingyu said after tossing the Baboon in his arms to Lin Jingxia.

He had just scanned the terrain before him and confirmed that this was the place where the hundred-year mountain sweet potato was discovered, as mentioned in the intelligence.

He needed to send the two of them away as soon as possible.

It wasn’t that he was stingy and didn’t want to share the profits with Little Miss; as fellow members of the Lin Family, they should support each other.

However, the hundred-year mountain sweet potato was highly valuable after all, even attracting the attention of Bandit Cultivators.

Naturally, the fewer people who knew, the better.

Most importantly, he had to intervene to change the tragedy predicted by the Golden Finger.

He would give Little Miss sufficient compensation in other ways later.

”Ah, Brother, aren’t we leaving together?”

Lin Jingxia was stroking the Baboon’s soft fur and couldn’t help but ask upon hearing this.

At this, Lin Jingyu’s expression darkened, and he told a casual lie:

”Leave quickly! There’s another Yao Beast chasing me from behind, and I’ll lead it away! Don’t dawdle; you’ll only be a burden here.”

Lin Jingxia wanted to say more, but Little Miss nodded silently and pulled her away.

In her view, since Lin Jingyu could kill a Yao Beast Baboon, his strength must be very formidable.

It was likely only a Qi Refining Third Layer Yao Beast that would make him show such an expression.

The two of them would just be sitting ducks here.

Once they were gone, it would be easier for Lin Jingyu to escape.

Seeing the two girls disappear into the jungle, Lin Jingyu breathed a sigh of relief.

As long as he changed their Opportunity to find the hundred-year mountain sweet potato, he could prevent the tragedy predicted by the Golden Finger.

Lin Jingyu was afraid they would insist on staying and spout nonsense about fighting side-by-side or dying together.

Fortunately, Little Miss was very decisive and took her younger sister away.

Lin Jingyu cautiously walked to the edge of the cliff alone.

He looked down.

It was about ten to twenty meters high; the cliff wasn’t very steep, and even an ordinary person could safely climb down.

From a distance, he spotted a plant growing by the stream below, entirely deep green with dozens of palm-sized leaves.

It looked similar to a common sweet potato from the mortal world.

Lin Jingyu’s heart jolted, and a hint of joy crept onto his face; this must be the hundred-year old mountain sweet potato.

He infused spiritual power into his feet and walked down the cliff as if on level ground.

He hadn’t felt anything unusual from afar, but as he approached within a foot of the mountain sweet potato plant, he smelled a very sweet fragrance.

The fragrance was also accompanied by a rich Spiritual Qi.

It made him feel completely relaxed.

Without hesitation, Lin Jingyu emptied the bamboo shoots, chestnuts, and other items from the basket on his back and took out a small shovel he had prepared earlier.

He prepared to dig up the mountain sweet potato.

The roots of the mountain sweet potato grew in the crevices of the rocks; after moving a few stones aside, seven or eight fist-sized fruits were revealed.

Each fruit was pale yellow and round, looking somewhat cute.

”Tsk. I thought there would be more, bringing such a large basket. These few pieces wouldn’t even fill my pockets.”

Just as he was thinking of using the shovel to cut the mountain sweet potato from the roots.

Lin Jingyu hesitated; would doing this be a bit too wasteful?

A hundred-year mountain sweet potato was extremely precious, let alone an entire plant.

Why not dig up the whole thing and transplant it into the basement to see if he could keep it alive?

If it didn’t survive, there would be no loss.

These mountain sweet potato roots and leaves should also contain quite a bit of Spiritual Qi; they could be served cold or stir-fried.

Acting on his thought, he began to dig down.

Although the mountain sweet potato’s stems didn’t look like much, the underground root system was very developed, with white capillary hairs two or three inches long.

There was no way to clean this thing out bit by bit; he could only try his best to preserve it.

The roots that had grown into the rock crevices couldn’t be dug out either; with only a worn-out low-grade Magical Artifact dagger, he had no way to break through the boulders.

Lin Jingyu dug for over an hour before he finally managed to extract the entire root system.

If the entire mountain sweet potato plant were stretched out and measured, it would be at least five or six zhang long; the root system was just too developed.

He lined the basket with a layer of bamboo shoot leaves, filled it with soil, and planted the mountain sweet potato inside.

Finally, he covered the mountain sweet potato entirely with a cloth.

Only then did Lin Jingyu have the leisure to stretch and wash his face in the small river nearby.

Carrying the basket weighing over a hundred catties, he walked out.

He didn’t even know where he was in the deep mountains now; he had to find the markers he had left earlier.

...

”Jingxia, you’re saying your brother killed this?”

A shocked and surprised tone came from a burly, bald middle-aged man.

This person was named Lin Lingkuang, with a cultivation of the Qi Refining Third Layer.

In his youth, he was a famous herb gatherer in the village, having ventured over ten li into the back mountains and even hunted Yao Beasts.

After getting injured, he cordoned off a plot in the Lin Family Territory and raised a dozen Black Mountain Pigs.

His level of knowledge about Yao Beasts was among the best in the entire Lin Family.

So, as soon as the two girls returned home, Little Miss had Lin Jingxia invite him over to process the Yao Beast Baboon.

Lin Jingxia said with a hint of pride, ”Yes, my brother killed it. My brother is amazing!”

Lin Lingkuang sighed after examining it:

”Incredible, truly incredible. This Silver-furred Baboon is a troublesome existence even among Qi Refining Second Layer Yao Beasts; it’s strong, fast, and holds a grudge.”

”This kid is impressive; he actually managed to stab it to death. And every stab was to the neck!”

Previously, his evaluation of Lin Jingyu had been quite mediocre.

Lazy and gluttonous, staying at home all day to Cultivate.

Having consumed many resources only to reach the Qi Refining Second Layer.

After his parents died, he couldn’t support the household and didn’t act like a man.

Making his younger sister work in the fields and manage the home.

Yesterday, when the Black Wind Stockade came demanding fifty Spirit Stones and the Third Elder stepped in to help...

Not only was he ungrateful, but he also suspected the Third Elder of having ill intentions.

He was just an ungrateful, wretched kid.

In the end, the Family would still have to cover this debt!

The scene before him made him see Lin Jingyu in a new light.

Cultivators who could kill Yao Beasts of the same rank were usually only Disciples of the Qinglan Sect or Core Disciples from several Foundation Establishment Families.

Perhaps this kid Lin Jingyu really does have some extraordinary qualities.

Lin Lingkuang’s tone immediately became more enthusiastic:

”In that case, the Baboon’s fur is intact and can be skinned. Selling it at the marketplace could fetch at least three or four Spirit Stones. Also, its ten claws are decent Materials, worth one or two Spirit Stones.”

”The rest isn’t worth much, but the meat can be eaten. Yao Beast meat contains Spiritual Qi; eating such a large amount is worth one or two Spirit Stones.”

As he spoke, a small knife shimmering with spiritual light appeared in Lin Lingkuang’s hand; with a gentle twist, the knife moved nimbly between his fingers.

Like a swimming fish, it quickly swept across the Silver-furred Baboon’s body.

In almost the blink of an eye, he had completely skinned the Baboon.

Then he quickly carved the Baboon meat into dozens of roughly equal portions for easy storage and cooking.

He tied the internal organs with tree branches, held them in his hand, and said:

”Jingxia, girl, I’ll be heading back now. I’ll take these organs back to feed the pigs. Also, if you have any difficulties, just tell your uncle; I’ll help you as much as I can!”
