Reborn Divine Doctor: The Abandoned Girl's Legend

Chapter 1171: Chapter 231: Rookie Project

Following the Old City Lord’s memory, Ye Lingyue finally learned that the reason the Old City Lord chose that location for the novice trial wasn’t mere coincidence.

Back then, the Old City Lord had accidentally heard from a demon hunter that the underground of the Qiulin Ruins held a great treasure.

Coincidentally, a large number of demon beasts appeared there, so the Old City Lord took the novices to explore the ruins.

Who knew, they didn’t find any treasure. Shortly after the Old City Lord entered the Qiulin Ruins, mysterious events began to occur one after another.

”On the first day we entered the Qiulin Ruins, one of the novices mysteriously disappeared. On the second and third days, people continued to disappear. In the end, only Su Mu, Yuan Xing, and I were left. The most bizarre thing was that no matter how careful we were, a person still disappeared every day. Moreover, there were no signs of fighting or blood. I couldn’t even find their skeletons. To this day, this incident remains a regret of mine.”

The novices accompanying them disappeared overnight, like sunshine snow.

Even an old hand like the Old City Lord was at a loss when faced with such events.

Although the Old City Lord and Yuan Xing managed to leave there by chance, they paid an extremely heavy price.

With Su Mu’s case as well, the Old City Lord had been bearing an immense psychological burden over the years.

At this point, Yuan Xing suddenly spoke.

”Old City Lord, actually, I have a wish. Back then, due to the urgency, the Old City Lord and I had to bury Brother Su’s remains in the Qiulin Ruins. All these years, I have wanted to relocate his grave, and I want to enter the Qiulin Ruins once more.”

”The matter of the Qiulin Ruins isn’t just a regret for you, it’s also one for me. I’ve muddled through these years, but now that I’m awake, I’ve come to terms with many things. Even if you hadn’t mentioned it, I already planned to enter the Qiulin Ruins again once I fully recover. I want to discover the true reason behind the disappearance of those novices back then.”

The Old City Lord pondered for a moment and agreed wholeheartedly.

”Father, how can this be? You’re not fully recovered yet. Besides, the Qiulin Ruins are too dangerous; no one knows what’s truly inside. If you insist on going, let me go into the Qiulin Ruins on your behalf,” said the Huangquan City Lord anxiously.

She had waited so long for her father’s day of clarity and couldn’t let him take the risk again.

Yet she knew her father’s stubborn nature; once he decided on something, it was hard to change.

”Stop arguing; I have an idea. How about the City Lord leads us, a few novices, into the Qiulin Ruins to complete the novice project that the Old City Lord and Brother Yuan Xing never finished?”

Ye Lingyue suggested.

From Yuan Xing’s and the Old City Lord’s hidden memories, it seemed the Qiulin Ruins were mysterious and unpredictable.

Coupled with Yun Sheng’s previous reminder, Ye Lingyue developed a strange curiosity about the Qiulin Ruins.

She also wanted to see what exactly had caused such lasting trauma to both the Old City Lord and Yuan Xing.

”Novice project? Wouldn’t the Qiulin Ruins be too dangerous? After all, a dozen novices couldn’t make it through back then. Besides, whether there’s truly treasure in the Qiulin Ruins is still unknown,” the Huangquan City Lord expressed her shock at Ye Lingyue’s bold proposal.

However, she quickly realized that Ye Lingyue, Qin Xiaochuan, Huang Jun, and others had been in Huangquan City for some time. Due to the city’s unique circumstances, none of them had participated in any novice projects.

”I actually think the girl’s plan is feasible. If you and Yuan Xing lead, along with a few novices, perhaps solving the mysteries of the Qiulin Ruins could change Huangquan City’s plight,” the Old City Lord said. After regaining clarity, he remembered that it was Ye Lingyue who had saved him during his state of confusion.

”Perhaps we should first find the demon hunter who initially provided the treasure clue; maybe there’s more to discover?”

Ye Lingyue’s question left Yuan Xing and the Huangquan City Lord glancing at each other.

”That might not be possible. The demon hunter wasn’t an ordinary person; he was the former leader of the Heroic Society and died in an accident about two years ago.”

When the Old City Lord was in charge, the Heroic Society wasn’t as prominent as it is today.

The old leader of the Heroic Society and the Old City Lord got along quite well.

Hearing about the treasure in the Qiulin Ruins, the old leader had taken his members into the ruins but also met with failure.

”Qin Xiong is already dead? But Qin Xiong was a cautious person, and he had ventured into the Qiulin Ruins, so he might have left records about the ruins’ treasure. If we can get those records, it would be beneficial for our next entry into the Qiulin Ruins.”

The Old City Lord hadn’t expected that upon regaining consciousness, everything would have changed so drastically.

”This might not be easy either. Over the years, I’ve been working for the Heroic Society to make a living. Two years ago, after Qin Xiong’s death, the society came under the control of a mysterious new member. His identity is shrouded in secrecy, and he’s a rising figure in the societies of the Ancient Nine Provinces. Obtaining Qin Xiong’s relics from him is exceedingly difficult.”

Yuan Xing shook his head.

”I have a suggestion regarding this. Ling Yue and Xiao Chun have both joined the Underground Arena Competition, and they’ve been performing well. If you can secure victory in the upcoming matches, you might have a chance to contact the upper echelons of the Heroic Society. Then, there would be opportunities to gather information about the Qiulin Ruins.”

After a discussion, they decided to visit the Qiulin Ruins after Ye Lingyue and Si Xiaochun completed the Underground Arena Competition.

For logistical convenience, the Huangquan City Lord arranged for Yuan Xing to temporarily relocate Su Mu’s family to the City Lord’s Mansion.

The Old City Lord’s recovery was a significant morale booster for the City Lord’s Mansion.

For Ye Lingyue, it was quite rewarding as well. It marked a major breakthrough not just in her medical skills, but also in her understanding of spiritual patterns, as the Old City Lord was quite knowledgeable on the subject.

After learning about Ye Lingyue’s interest in spiritual pattern carving, he shared some of his early insights with her.

In the evening, Ye Lingyue returned to her residence.

Compared to the mystery of the Qiulin Ruins, it was the impending final round of the Underground Arena Competition that worried Ye Lingyue the most.

Reflecting on the day’s events, especially recalling the strength of the Mu Huo Team, her brows furrowed even tighter.

Yuan Xing, Lady Dan, and the Female and Male Killers had already been eliminated. In the final round, their opponents would only be that pair, and Ye Lingyue intuitively felt that their strength exceeded hers and Si Xiaochun’s.

~Sorry for the late update today, I’ll be home in two days, and updates will be more frequent then, awoo awoo~
