Reborn Divine Doctor: The Abandoned Girl's Legend

Chapter 1167: Chapter 227: Unraveling the Mystery

On the first day, it was the Old City Lord’s turn to go out to search for water and food.

However, after a whole day, the Old City Lord found nothing.

On the second day, the Old City Lord went out again to search for water and food, but once again came back empty-handed.

On the third day, around dawn, Su Xuan discovered that Yuan Xing, due to the lack of food and water, suddenly had a high fever.

On this day, it was Su Xuan who went out to search for food and water.

”City Lord, I leave Yuan Xing in your care for now.” Saying that, Su Xuan left, looking back every few steps.

Soon after Su Xuan left, the Old City Lord took care of Yuan Xing.

However, as time gradually passed, Yuan Xing’s high fever showed no sign of improving.

The Old City Lord became increasingly anxious, and finally, he walked up to Yuan Xing.

”Cough, cough, City Lord, go ahead.” Yuan Xing, weak to the point of exhaustion, gave a bitter smile.

”Yuan Xing... you knew all along... I’m so sorry...” The Old City Lord couldn’t help but sigh.

”City Lord, now is not the time to act on feelings. I am well aware of my condition. If we drag this out any longer, all three of us will die. Before setting out, you told us already that a qualified Demon Hunter must act decisively and cannot be swayed by emotions.” Yuan Xing felt his consciousness becoming increasingly blurry.

He knew he didn’t have long to live.

If he wasn’t going to live long, he would rather die sooner so as not to burden Brother Su.

The Old City Lord’s eyes turned slightly red, he couldn’t help but turn his head, raising his hand, he struck Yuan Xing’s top of the skull with his palm.

”City Lord!”

A roar of anger came.

Su Xuan rushed in, furious beyond words, and without hesitation, he started to fight with the Old City Lord.

”Brother Su, stop, the two of you shouldn’t fight over a dying man like me. Otherwise, I would rather end myself than harm you both.” Yuan Xing painfully closed his eyes.

It’s not that he wanted to die, but he didn’t want to burden his friends even more.

”I can definitely find a water source and food. Give me one more day, I can do it. Yuan Xing, City Lord, you must believe in me.”

Su Mu said passionately.

In the end, Yuan Xing and the Old City Lord finally agreed after Su Mu’s persuasion.

Perhaps Su Mu’s persistence moved the heavens, on the fourth day at noon, Su Mu actually found some Beast Meat and Beast Blood. Although it wasn’t much, with this Beast Meat and Beast Blood, Yuan Xing’s condition gradually improved.

The three supported each other, moving toward the edge of the Qiulin Ruins.

However, something Yuan Xing didn’t expect was that after he had barely recovered from his fever and regained his health, Su Mu fell ill.

Until the Old City Lord and Yuan Xing, ignoring Su Mu’s objections, rolled up his sleeves and checked his body, only then did Yuan Xing discover that Su Mu’s arms and body had become nothing but a bloody skeleton.

Upon witnessing that scene, Yuan Xing realized that all this time, what he and the Old City Lord had been eating wasn’t Beast Blood and Beast Meat at all, but the flesh and blood Su Mu had taken from his own body.

Su Mu didn’t survive to leave the Qiulin Ruins, he died there.

The memory abruptly stopped, and endless darkness swept in.

It was only then that Ye Lingyue and Yun Sheng were able to disconnect from Yuan Xing’s memory.

”...”

Having witnessed all of this, Ye Lingyue and Yun Sheng found themselves speechless.

Ye Lingyue never expected that Yuan Xing and the Old City Lord back then survived by consuming a companion’s flesh and blood.

Even Yun Sheng, who had heard the story of the Buddha feeding the eagle with his own flesh, felt a deep shock.

Not to mention, the Old City Lord and Yuan Xing themselves.

It’s no wonder that after surviving and leaving that deathly wasteland, the two of them fell into madness.

Especially Yuan Xing, all these years, he must have been mired in the death of his partner, which is why he has such severe aftereffects.

After the memory’s content was unearthed, Yuan Xing instead calmed down.

The madness in his eyes gradually replaced with tranquility.

”So, I was the one who killed Su Xuan. I never dared to tell Grandma Naisu and Brother Su’s children the truth. He took great care of me like his own brother, but what did I do? I actually ate his flesh and drank his blood, I’m inhumane.”

Yuan Xing wept bitterly.

After returning to Huangquan City with the Old City Lord, Yuan Xing couldn’t bear the burden anymore, he left the City Lord’s Mansion and gave up becoming a Demon Hunter.

Every time he thought about his life being exchanged for his friend’s life, Yuan Xing was in unbearable pain.

So all these years, at certain times, Yuan Xing would lose control of his emotions. This time, after witnessing the Male and Female Killers brutally slaughtering his companions in front of him, it further triggered Yuan Xing, leading to the eruption of the darkness suppressed within his heart.

”Yuan Xing, things aren’t as you imagine. Actually, neither you nor the Old City Lord are at fault, you didn’t know anything. Furthermore, Su Mu had already decided to sacrifice himself, knowing full well that he wouldn’t live much longer.” Ye Lingyue said, making Yuan Xing incredulously lift his head.

”What did you say?”

”I just learned about this from Granny Su.” Ye Lingyue said, opening the door to let Grandma Su in.

It turned out, during Yuan Xing’s treatment, Granny Su had been staying close due to her worry.

Seeing Granny Su, Yuan Xing couldn’t help but kneel down.

”Grandma, I’m so sorry, Brother Su died because of me.”

”Silly child, no wonder you’ve been so miserable all these years. It’s not your fault, Mu’er was gravely injured once before going to the Ancient Nine Provinces, and the Alchemist who treated him said he would not live past thirty. That was why the two children’s mother ran away with someone else. Mu’er feared our family would have no support, so he secretly went to the Ancient Nine Provinces without telling us. He wanted to earn more Spirit Stones while he could still hold on. He met you there, and he always said that meeting you before he died, his life was without regret.”

Granny Su said, tears streaming down her face.

Su Mu’s letter, she had been keeping all this time.

Throughout these years, because of her selfish intentions, she never mentioned the truth to Yuan Xing, fearing that after knowing the truth, Yuan Xing would leave her and her grandchildren.

She never imagined that yuan xing had been living in guilt over Su Mu’s death all these years, leaving such a deep trauma.

Yuan Xing and Granny Su cried in each other’s arms.

Seeing such a scene, Ye Lingyue and Yun Sheng quietly left the room.

Earlier, when checking Yuan Xing’s memory, Ye Lingyue felt a strange sensation arise within her heart.

It was as if, in touching Yuan Xing’s memory, she also touched a corner deep within her own heart.
