Reborn Divine Doctor: The Abandoned Girl's Legend

Chapter 1103: Chapter 163: The First Novice Quest

Ye Lingyue walked within Huangquan City.

According to the earlier female warrior, both the taverns and tea houses in the city have newbie tasks that can be taken. All you need to do is show your newcomer credential to accept a task.

Among these tasks, those at the taverns are mostly related to fighting and killing, with relatively higher rewards, yet they require more difficulty and time.

Newbie tasks at the tea houses are relatively simpler, with lower rewards, but most are leisurely jobs, offering more freedom.

Ye Lingyue wanted to quickly find those two bandits to retrieve the lost items; in the short term, she couldn’t leave Huangquan City.

So after pondering, she decided to go to the tea house to inquire about newbie tasks.

Upon inquiry, Ye Lingyue found out that the whole of Huangquan City has only one tea house. Given the harsh environment of Huangquan City, worse than Yan City No.9, no one would actually go to a tea house to have tea.

It’s said that this tea house named ”Feng Nan” was initially opened by the previous City Lord.

When Ye Lingyue entered, sure enough, there were barely any people in the tea house.

Only an old lady with yellow teeth was sitting there, munching on shelling seeds.

”Old lady, may I ask if there are any newbie tasks available here?”

Ye Lingyue asked, but the old lady ignored her.

Ye Lingyue thought the old lady might be hard of hearing and asked again loudly.

”Why are you speaking so loud? I’m not deaf. You say you want a newbie task, is there actually someone coming to Huangquan City?”

The old lady glanced at Ye Lingyue; it’s rare to see even a single newbie here in a year, usually only poor newcomers or fools unaware of Huangquan City come.

The old lady observed that while Ye Lingyue’s complexion was dark, those eyes were clear and bright, suggesting she might be a sly veteran posing as a newbie.

After the old lady confirmed that Ye Lingyue’s newbie credential wasn’t forged, she got up and took out several Stone Disks.

These were Task Stone Discs, engraved with corresponding rewards and work tasks.

”Originally, there were six newbie tasks available, but two have expired due to being too old. Another two require men to take them, leaving two—the City Gate guard and a gardener at the City Lord’s Mansion. Both offer the same reward: one Intermediate Spirit Stone per month, including meals and lodging.”

Guard, gardener.

These two newbie tasks didn’t seem very appealing.

Being a guard means standing at the gate 24 hours a day, and considering Huangquan City’s gate was so broken, a guard is basically useless.

Ye Lingyue dared to claim that in the short term, no unlucky soul like her would come to Huangquan City.

Being a guard was out of the question.

As for the gardener at the City Lord’s Mansion, this task seemed somewhat decent.

Ye Lingyue was part of Hong Meng Heaven.

As for flowers and plants, even if she couldn’t nurture them, tossing them into Hong Meng Heaven for a while wouldn’t be a problem.

At most, she’d help with pruning here and there. A gardener doesn’t need to work all day. One Intermediate Spirit Stone per month, along with staying at the City Lord’s Mansion, provides more opportunities for information gathering and even maybe meeting the Huangquan City Lord to get better tasks.

Ye Lingyue only took a moment to decide to take the second newbie task.

Seeing Ye Lingyue wanted the gardener task, the old lady gave her a curious look.

”Are you sure you want to be a gardener at the City Lord’s Mansion? This newbie task has been available for years with no takers, and if you take it, you’ll need to work for at least a month, or you’ll have to compensate double the reward.”

Firstly, Huangquan City has hardly any newbies, and the reward of one Intermediate Spirit Stone, though including meals, is trivial compared to the work at the City Lord’s Mansion...

The old lady’s eyes seemed to say, a young girl with a good-looking appearance—how could you be so dim-witted?

”I’ll go with this task, since there’s no other choice, right? I’m definitely going to stick with it.”

Ye Lingyue was unconcerned.

Ye Lingyue didn’t care about the reward amount; this job she’ll work for at most a month or two. Her mind was focused on recovering the Phoenix Token and Sky Wolf Stick.

Originally, she planned to find a way to send a message to the Ancient Pass to relieve Di Shen and Sister Wan Yun’s worries, but she figured that since she’d already reported in Huangquan City, the people here would post her whereabouts, so Di Shen and the others wouldn’t worry.

Ye Lingyue thought too simply; she wasn’t aware that Huangquan City had long been disconnected from other Newbie Cities. Even if the City Lord’s Mansion were to send a message, it would be greatly delayed; it would take several days for the information to finally reach.

Of course, Ye Lingyue was unaware of these things at the moment.

After confirming her decision for the newbie task, the old lady handed her the Stone Disk and told her to report at the City Lord’s Mansion immediately.

Following the directions given by the tea house old lady, Ye Lingyue looked for the City Lord’s Mansion, making several turns from the bustling marketplace before stopping at a large residence.

The residence covered quite an area; Ye Lingyue roughly estimated it to be the size of Feng Residence’s courtyard in Daxia.

Despite its size, the residence looked old and worn.

The two originally vermilion doors had faded to mud color.

Ye Lingyue knocked on the door for a long time before hearing someone answer.

A boy, aged fourteen or fifteen, with fine features, came out.

Holding a feather duster and wearing a gaudy large apron, he looked somewhat comical, seemingly interrupted from cleaning.

”Hi, I’m here to be a gardener at the City Lord’s Mansion, referred by the tea house owner; here’s my Task Stone Disc.”

After Ye Lingyue spoke, the boy accepted the Stone Disk.

”That’s fantastic! Finally, someone can assist me. I am a guard at the City Lord’s Mansion, but also a part-time attendant student, chef, servant, and coachman; you can call me Xiao Chun. Now that you’re here, I don’t have to worry about the garden anymore.”

The boy named Xiao Chun flashed a set of pearl-white teeth and led Ye Lingyue inside without hesitation.

It seemed the City Lord’s Mansion was even more impoverished than she thought.

This boy, despite being thin and weak, held multiple roles; she wondered if she would even receive her monthly reward of one Intermediate Spirit Stone.

As Ye Lingyue contemplated asking for advance payment, Xiao Chun led her to a large courtyard.

The Huangquan City Lord Mansion had two inner sections; as they walked, Xiao Chun explained that the City Lord and he lived in the inner section, while the outer section was the former residence of the Old City Lord, abandoned after his death.

The City Lord’s Mansion’s garden was in the courtyard of the Old City Lord Mansion.

Due to neglect, the garden’s plants obstructed the path, making it difficult to traverse; Xiao Chun couldn’t manage it alone and wanted help to care for it.

”The City Lord doesn’t have high demands for the garden; I think just cleaning up the plants inside will suffice.”

Saying this, Xiao Chun and Ye Lingyue reached the garden’s entrance.
