Reborn Divine Doctor: The Abandoned Girl's Legend

Chapter 787: Chapter 654: The Fierce Beast Appears

Ye Lingyue and Feng Xun’s Four-direction Boat slowly entered the downstream of the Rift Valley Sand River on the second day.

The downstream waterway was wide, but there were many more Four-direction Boats than there had been earlier.

At this moment, it was exactly noon, a full day and night since Ye Lingyue and Feng Xun had entered the ferry.

On the river, Four-direction Boats sailed in twos and threes, moving forward; everyone seemed calm and had not encountered any attacks.

Ye Lingyue’s Four-direction Token in her hand stirred.

An agreeable female voice came from within.

”The first-day Sifang Ranking. First place, Cang Country Long Sixuan, with thirty-one hunting points. Second place, Iron Fist Sect Song Xia, with ten hunting points...”

This pleasant female voice listed the names of thirty-one individuals, indicating that thirty-one contestants had already encountered the fierce beasts of the sand river.

The announcement made every twelve hours invisibly exerted not small pressure on everyone, adding uncertain factors to the competition in the following days.

Presumably, these thirty-one people were the earliest to enter the Rift Valley Sand River.

”The first place is actually Long Sixuan.” Ye Lingyue furrowed her brows.

”It’s only temporary first place; we are now in the downstream too. It’s likely that we will encounter fierce beasts soon, but it’s unknown what kind we will meet,” Feng Xun gazed into the distance, where the sun was right overhead.

The sand that flowed like water glittered blindingly in the sunlight, shining in people’s eyes, easily causing minds to wander and a loss of concentration.

Suddenly, Feng Xun’s eyebrows twitched.

”Ling Yue, I remember when we first entered the downstream, there were twenty-three Four-direction Boats around us. How come there are only twenty-two now?”

Reminded by Feng Xun, Ye Lingyue also scanned the surroundings.

Feng Xun was more detail-oriented than she was; while she had only been concerned with maintaining a distance from the other boats earlier, she hadn’t counted them carefully.

She counted again, but on the sand river, the flowing sand continued as normal without any signs of a fight.

Ever since the female voice from the Four-direction Token reported the Sifang Ranking for the first time, the contestants had become more restless than before.

Because everyone understood very clearly that although the top fifty could enter Sifang City for the final selection, everyone knew that the ranking on this Sifang Ranking was extraordinary; the higher the rank, the higher the chance of being noticed by the Sifang City Lord.

Many quickened their pace, exhausting their Primordial Power to rush to the midstream of the downstream, fearing that if they arrived too late, the fierce beasts in the downstream area would have been hunted to extinction.

Half an hour later, Ye Lingyue counted again, and this time, she found that there was one less boat.

Apart from Ye Lingyue, people on the other Four-direction Boats had not noticed the reduction in the number of boats.

”Something strange, the Four-direction Boat that was previously directly to our left has disappeared, and our boat is about to pass that location, we need to be careful, slow down the boat,” Ye Lingyue pressed her lips tightly together.

Feng Xun did as told, removing some of the arrays on the boat, and the boat’s speed suddenly dropped to the slowest.

She tried to use her spiritual power to search the surroundings, but to no avail.

Next to the boat of Ye Lingyue and Feng Xun, there was another Four-direction Boat with a similar speed. Once Ye Lingyue slowed down, that boat passed by them.

It was at this moment that something eerie happened.

Ye Lingyue’s eyes narrowed; she noticed that as the other Four-direction Boat passed by the location where the previous boat met its fate, the surface of the sand river changed.

The sand of that part of the sand river was no longer the ordinary golden yellow fine grains but was emitting a white glow.

Those glimmers of light, they were moving.

Closer still, Ye Lingyue finally saw clearly that what was there was not mere sand. On the surface of that sand river, there crawled densely a mass of fine, white sand ants.

These sand ants, each only the size of a grain of sand, were astonishing in number, so densely packed that it was impossible to discern their exact count.

They were Sand Ants, a low-level Spiritual Beast that lived in desert regions.

They resembled ants in appearance but were far more vicious than ordinary ants. Though small in size, Sand Ants possessed a pair of sharp mandibles, and their pincers contained a deadly, anesthetizing poison liquid.

Once bitten by a Sand Ant, as soon as the anesthetizing poison touched the blood, it would rapidly spread throughout the body. Even a Spiritual Beast the size of a water buffalo would fall into unconsciousness, unaware as it was torn to shreds.

They emerged in swarms, with at least several hundred to a thousand Sand Ants in each.

Clearly, these Sand Ants had likely made their nest within this rift valley sand river.

When the unsuspecting Four-direction Boat in the front passed by the area of Sand Ants, swarms of Sand Ants crawled onto the boat.

The sturdy Four-direction Boat, under the gnashing of the Sand Ants’ sharp pincers, was nibbled into dust.

Ye Lingyue personally witnessed two strong, middle-aged men on the boat fall into the Flowing Sand River without a struggle, never to see daylight again.

The entire process left Ye Lingyue’s heart pounding in terror.

She no longer harbored any thoughts of pity for others, for their Four-direction Boat was merely hundreds of feet away from that demon-like swarm of Sand Ants.

At this moment, the best strategy was undoubtedly to avoid these Sand Ants, for not all the Four-direction Boats on the river would encounter Sand Ants. Those that had disappeared were simply unlucky enough to run into them.

But just as Ye Lingyue hesitated over whether to avoid the Sand Ants, an unexpected change occurred!

Chen Mu and An Yang, who had been following Ye Lingyue and the others all along, had unconsciously ended up behind Ye Lingyue’s boat.

Due to the peculiar behavior of Ye Lingyue’s party, they too noticed the presence of the Sand Ants.

”Sand Ants!”

With Chen Mu’s frustration at not being able to get ahead and hunt the beasts of the sand river, he exclaimed in surprise as if he wished the whole world to know.

Sand Ants swarmed whenever they emerged in large numbers.

Killing a whole swarm of Sand Ants would undoubtedly earn a stunning number of points.

Immediately following, he raised his palm, and a surge of fiery red Primordial Power welled up from the palm of Chen Mu’s hand.

He was originally a high-level practitioner in the Reincarnation Realm, and before his Dantian was injured, he had even reached the Reincarnation Fourth Path. Even after his cultivation had fallen by one Reincarnation Realm, he still remained a high-level practitioner of the Reincarnation Three Paths, having undergone two Reincarnation Fire Tribulations and one Reincarnation Gold Tribulation – an expert in the Double Reincarnation Tribulation.

Sand Ants feared fire, and in Chen Mu’s fist was carried the Fire Power.

With this punch, a fist shadow formed, akin to a fireball, striking precisely and directly into a Sand Ant nest in the sand river.

The Sand Ant nest exploded into fragments, and a large number of Sand Ant eggs rolled out.

Seeing such a heroic act from his senior brother, An Yang could not contain his joy.

But Feng Xun, upon witnessing Chen Mu’s punch, twitched the corners of his mouth fiercely and cursed inwardly.

”Idiot!”

Because there was no one more foolish than Chen Mu, who had directly attacked the Sand Ant’s nest.
