Maybe My Soulmate! (GL)

Mo Yuxin died in her so-called ”previous” world in what most would call a tragic accident—a sudden car crash on a rainy night, her body flung like a broken doll across cold asphalt, her vision fading with the bitter taste of blood in her mouth. To everyone else in that world, it was just another statistic. Another headline buried in the papers. But to her, it was the conclusion of a carefully orchestrated fate—one that had never truly been hers to control.

At first, the realization unsettled her. The knowledge that her entire life, from birth to death, had been manipulated by someone else—predestined by a will far greater than her own—left a bitter taste. She had always believed in freedom, in the right to choose. And yet, that entire existence had been nothing more than a stepping stone. A trial. A long tempering of the soul.

But Mo Yuxin was not a child anymore, nor someone naïve to the ways of the world. After sitting with those thoughts, turning them over within her mind, she began to understand. No, not understand—accept.

Because everything her master had done… it had never been to hurt her.

It had been to save her.

She had been chosen—not randomly, but because she had the potential. Because she was the only one in the countless timelines, the endless weavings of fate, who could inherit the mantle of Rule. That life in the world of steel and science, that fragile, disconnected existence where she never felt truly at home—it had been a cocoon. A world designed to temper the rawness of her soul, to build resilience, to teach her loss and hope, to prepare her for the truth of her origins.

If her master hadn’t intervened—if that wisp of dying consciousness hadn’t latched onto her collapsing soul when she fell off that cliff in the world of cultivation—she would have perished. Alone, discarded, forgotten.

Instead, she had been reborn.

Yes, perhaps she had been manipulated. But in return, she had been given something greater than she could ever have imagined: power, freedom, and love. Her master had entrusted her with more than just magic—she had been given destiny itself.

So how could she ever resent her?

In the grand tapestry of existence, where threads of fate tangled and unraveled with each passing moment, her master had preserved her thread and woven it into something extraordinary.

After her death in the modern world, she didn’t linger long. Her soul, stronger now, more refined and stable, was drawn—pulled back—through a rift in time and space. Like a homing beacon answering its call, it found its way through the multiversal threads and returned.

Returned to where it all began.

The moment she crossed back into her original world, the difference was palpable. The very air hummed with spiritual energy, thicker and more alive than anything she had felt before. Her body had changed too. It was no longer the frail vessel of her youth, nor the mundane flesh of her modern reincarnation.

It was something new.

Something built.

A body forged through chaos energy and tempered with the very laws of existence.

Her new vessel had been crafted by the master’s remaining consciousness during those long years of waiting. It was made not just to house her soul, but to fuse with the inheritance of Rule. Every meridian was reinforced with layered threads of order. Every cell carried latent strands of cosmic law.

This was the body of the next Rule.

As she opened her eyes to this world once more, she felt it—that vast power sleeping within her bones. It wasn’t like cultivating spiritual energy or absorbing elemental essence. No. This was purer, deeper, something primordial.

It felt as if the universe itself bowed in quiet recognition.

The inheritance hadn’t been fully explored or accepted yet, but it has already begun.

At that time when she first came into this world,

The strain her soul had endured through two deaths, two lifetimes, and the passage through chaos-touched space-time had weakened the tether between her consciousness and her true self. It wasn’t safe to awaken her all at once. So her master made a choice—one last protective lie. A constructed illusion, tailored from fragments of memory and wrapped in gentle deception.

She would believe she was an outsider.

A wandering soul who had taken over the identity of the original Mo Yuxin—the girl who had died tragically, filled with resentment and despair.

And when she first opened her eyes in this new world, that’s exactly what she believed. She saw the lifeless body on the ground—her own former self—and assumed, with genuine grief, that she had accidentally usurped someone else’s fate.

Even the soul of the ”original” Mo Yuxin appeared to her, conjured by her master in the form of a compassionate spirit, full of sorrow and unfulfilled wishes. They spoke briefly, that illusionary soul and the amnesiac Mo Yuxin. The soul passed on memories, asked for vengeance, and faded away with a gentle smile.

All of it was fabricated.

But it served its purpose.

The illusion comforted her, gave her direction and urgency in a world where she had no bearings. It made her take ownership of this life, gave her a reason to protect the people who were always hers—Mother Lan, Little Feng, the lost and broken pieces of a life she hadn’t yet remembered as her own.

Through this illusion, her master ensured that even if she couldn’t yet grasp her true identity, Mo Yuxin would not flounder. She would grow. She would fight. She would cultivate. And in doing so, her soul would gradually stabilize, align, and synchronize with her true self and the inheritance she was born to wield.

Afterwards, everything went as her master thought and Mo Yuxin truly became stronger much earlier than even she had thought. Mo Yuxin even met life elder and thunder emperor much sooner than master had expected. Though, she isn’t here to witness all the achievements of Mo Yuxin as her remaining consciousness had long since been erased from existence after truly completing all her duties.

”Yuxin..... Mo Yuxin...”

”Yuxin… Mo Yuxin…” a gentle voice called softly through the quiet corridor.

Mo Yuxin blinked, startled, her focus drifting back from the depths of her memories. The warmth of a familiar voice grounded her. She turned her head slightly and saw Su Yubing standing beside her, eyes filled with concern.

”…Hmm?” Mo Yuxin responded a bit absentmindedly at first, her mind still partly lingering in the past.

”You were spacing out,” Su Yubing said with a soft smile, her hand reaching over to gently squeeze Mo Yuxin’s fingers.

That simple touch—warm, grounding, loving—seemed to pull Mo Yuxin back into the present. The chaotic tangle of emotions that had flooded her heart slowly quieted. Her gaze lifted, and she looked toward the closed wooden door in front of them.

Behind that door… her family was waiting.

Not people she was merely meant to protect.

Not strangers whose memories she borrowed.

But her true family.

Her mother. Her little sister.

Her blood. Her heart.

Su Yubing stepped closer and leaned her head gently against Mo Yuxin’s shoulder. ”Are you ready?”

Mo Yuxin turned her hand and interlaced their fingers tightly. She leaned sideways and placed a soft kiss on Su Yubing’s cheek, her lips lingering for just a second longer than usual. ”Thank you,” she whispered, her voice slightly hoarse.

Su Yubing said nothing, but the smile in her eyes said everything.

Mo Yuxin turned toward the door. Her pulse quickened. With a deep breath, she slowly pushed it open.

The room was quiet and warm, bathed in the gentle amber glow of a spiritual lamp. The familiar scent of sandalwood and herbal medicine hung in the air. Inside, Little Feng Feng sat curled up on a cushion, holding a wooden puzzle toy in her hands. A bright smile lit up her face the moment she saw her sister enter.

”Sis—Sister Yuxin!!”

She jumped up and ran forward, arms outstretched like wings, launching herself at Mo Yuxin.

Mo Yuxin barely had time to open her arms before the small body slammed into her, hugging her tightly around the waist. Mo Yuxin laughed softly, feeling the warmth of her little sister’s embrace, and dropped to her knees to hug her properly.

”Feng Feng… I missed you,” she murmured, pressing a kiss to the girl’s forehead.

”I missed you more! You were gone for so long! Mother said you were doing very important things and would come back even stronger! And you did! You really did!” Feng Feng giggled as she spoke, her small hands cupping Mo Yuxin’s cheeks with innocent admiration. ”You’re even prettier now, sis!”

Mo Yuxin’s eyes filled with a soft mist as she hugged her tighter. Her chest ached in the best way possible. She had always seen Feng Feng as someone she needed to protect, but now she finally felt what she hadn’t allowed herself to feel before—true sisterly love, the kind that came not from guilt or responsibility, but from deep, inseparable blood ties.

”Yuxin.” A familiar voice called out behind them.

Mo Yuxin looked up.

Mother Lan was sitting by the window, her posture graceful and dignified. Her hands were folded calmly in her lap, but her eyes—those warm, ever-watchful eyes—were glistening.

Mo Yuxin stood slowly, Feng Feng still holding onto her hand, and walked toward her mother.

She hesitated just for a moment, guilt and longing choking her throat.

”Mother…”

Lan Xu’s eyes shimmered. She stood up and took a single step forward.

Then another.

And finally, she closed the distance and wrapped her arms around her daughter.

The embrace was soft, firm, and deeply maternal.

Mo Yuxin buried her face in her mother’s shoulder, her lips trembling. ”I’m sorry it took me so long… I… I didn’t remember everything until recently.”

Lan Qing stroked her hair slowly. ”It doesn’t matter. You’re home now.”

Mo Yuxin shook her head, emotion rising in her chest. ”I thought I was someone else for so long… I thought I didn’t belong. But I remember now. I remember you carrying me when I was sick. I remember your voice singing to me. I remember everything, Mother.”

Lan Qing’s embrace tightened. ”Then let those memories be your strength from now on. You were never anyone else. You have always been my daughter. My Yuxin.”

Tears finally spilled from Mo Yuxin’s eyes. For the first time, they weren’t tears of grief or burden.

They were of joy.

When they slowly parted, Mo Yuxin noticed the presence of another woman standing silently beside her mother. She had an ethereal air, her posture upright and composed, yet something about her presence felt vaguely familiar.

Her spiritual pressure was completely concealed, yet it seemed limitless.

”Yuxin,” Lan Qing said gently, ”this is an old friend of the family. She helped us while you were away.”

Mo Yuxin turned toward the woman and gave a respectful nod, but the woman simply smiled.

Her smile was faint, but her eyes—those eyes shimmered with an unfathomable depth.

”Your soul has matured well,” the woman said, her voice calm yet echoing like a whisper across time.

Mo Yuxin’s eyes widened slightly.

This feeling…

That aura…

Before she could say anything, The woman gestured with her eyes not to say anything and for some reason, Mo Yuxin felt a hint of warm motherly love from those eyes which she had only ever seen in mother lan’s eyes. Mo Yuxin was a little confused but she chose not to follow any answers as her family reunion was more important.

Feng Feng had already climbed back into her arms, and Mother Lan had pulled them both into a gentle embrace.

Su Yubing stood at the doorway, watching quietly, her smile soft and serene.

Mo Yuxin held them all—her mother, her sister, her beloved—and for the first time in what felt like centuries, she truly felt whole.

This was home.
