Chapter 1518: Chapter 41: Fabulous Death Omen

Su Xiao tilted his head and glanced at the reserve Death God, D·Assassin appearing in his hand.

Poof.

After the faint gunshot, that reserve Death God staggered back half a step, then toppled straight backwards, finally collapsing without a sound.

One exchange upon meeting and the reserve Death God turned into a corpse. Su Xiao had no idea whether the guy wanted him to stand still, or lie down on the ground.

The stench of blood spread, and many civilians on the street witnessed the scene.

”Ah!”

A sharp female scream shattered the lively atmosphere around them, and the pedestrians on the street began swarming in one direction.

In less than ten seconds, there were only two people left on the nearby street: Su Xiao and a middle‑aged Big Mom. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to run, her legs were simply too weak from fear to move.

Big Mom had probably been through big ups and downs in life; her eyes rolled back and she keeled over in a faint. That was a very smart move.

Su Xiao pulled out D·Assassin’s magazine, loaded a single bullet, then put it away. He stepped toward the other side of the street, casually snatching a mask from a roadside stall and putting it over his face.

The Drunkard’s expression had clearly recognized Su Xiao’s identity, which meant Jingling Court had already started a large‑scale manhunt for Su Xiao. That was normal; Su Xiao had just not expected Jingling Court’s Speed to be this fast.

Following the street, Su Xiao arrived at the Southwest side of Vulture District, where minerals were stored and there weren’t many people.

As night deepened, Su Xiao, wearing a mask, sat on a wooden crate in front of a warehouse. Vulture District at night was very quiet; there was basically no entertainment here—aside from making people.

”Leaving Jingling Court at such a sensitive Time, aren’t you afraid those captains will suspect you?”

Su Xiao tossed an apple in his hand, lifted his mask, and took a big bite.

”About what happened before, thanks.”

A figure’s voice came from a nearby alley, though the person didn’t show himself.

”Just a small favor. Mutual assistance, mutual benefit, that’s all.”

Su Xiao tossed an apple into the alley. The newcomer didn’t eat it, but caught it politely.

”How did you know about my relationship with her?”

The man in the alley spoke.

”At the scene of Aizen’s fake death, you had killing intent toward everyone except that woman—including your own Deputy Captain. By the way, it wasn’t just me who noticed; Aizen picked up on it too.”

”...”

The newcomer fell silent.

”Relax, Aizen isn’t nearby. I can be sure of that.”

”That so.”

The man in the alley raised his hand; in the Darkness a somewhat pale hand appeared, clutching a cloth bundle.

”This is what you wanted.”

He tossed the bundle to Su Xiao. Su Xiao caught it but didn’t open it, instead asking, ”Any news on the person I’m looking for?”

”Nothing for now.”

With that, the man turned to leave.

”Is it ’no news,’ or did you people simply never go looking?”

”We never went. I can’t get away, and Aizen doesn’t care about this. It’s not related to his plan. As for Tosen, he ignored it completely.”

The man’s half‑smiling tone basically gave away his identity. Other than Gin Ichimaru, no one would use such an infuriating tone when discussing serious business.

That earlier ”thanks” from Gin Ichimaru was because Su Xiao had spared Matsumoto Rangiku’s life. Those two were childhood friends. Back when Aizen injured Matsumoto Rangiku for a half‑finished Hōgyoku, the young Gin Ichimaru believed that thing belonged to Matsumoto Rangiku and had been stolen by Aizen.

Because of that, Gin Ichimaru lurked at Aizen’s side, waiting for a chance to kill him. The situation sounds simple, but the relationships are extremely tangled. Put simply, Gin Ichimaru doesn’t belong to any faction. He has two goals: one, kill Aizen; two, help Matsumoto Rangiku take back the thing that ”originally belonged” to her.

The Jingling Court faction, Aizen’s faction, Urahara Kisuke’s faction—their relationships are messy, but all their goals are very clear: they all want to inflict Damage on each other.

”As expected.”

Earlier, Su Xiao had asked Aizen to help locate traces of Death Omen. From how things looked now, Aizen wouldn’t act on anything outside his plan.

”So what did you call me here for today?”

Su Xiao had come because he’d received a message from Aizen.

”Get rid of Hitsugaya Tōshirō. He’s in the way.”

In the Darkness, Gin Ichimaru’s lips curled; he’d already guessed how this would end.

”Oh.”

Su Xiao’s tone stayed flat as he casually took another bite of his apple.

”So you’re not planning to do it?”

”Got to know your own Strength. If you flattened the First Squad’s barracks yourself, would you still walk into Jingling Court right now?”

”...”

Gin Ichimaru’s eyes narrowed and killing intent surged. He’d noticed something off in Su Xiao’s tone, so he immediately let his killing intent show.

”Bai Ye, this doesn’t match the plan.”

Another voice came from the pitch‑black alley—it was Aizen. It was precisely because Aizen appeared that Gin Ichimaru deliberately put on killing intent.

Compared to his arch‑enemy Aizen, Su Xiao was clearly more trustworthy in Gin Ichimaru’s mind. If nothing else, the fact that Su Xiao had spared Matsumoto Rangiku was enough to make Gin feel Su Xiao was more reliable.

Aizen emerged; this guy had been off the grid recently.

”You had such a good chance before, yet you didn’t seize the Hōgyoku from Rukia Kuchiki. Seems you’ve got a lot of confidence in your own plan.”

The Spiritual Pulse Su Xiao triggered earlier had been a perfect opportunity. Unfortunately, Aizen didn’t act.

Su Xiao also wanted Aizen to snatch the Hōgyoku as soon as possible. That way, the second phase of his Main Task would be complete, and the reward was hefty.

”Without Sōkyoku’s destructive power, extracting the Hōgyoku carries risk.”

Aizen clearly wasn’t going to disrupt his original plan. Su Xiao knew Aizen’s idea of using Sōkyoku to take out the Hōgyoku was unreliable, but he couldn’t say that outright.

”What Time?”

Su Xiao might look like he’d settled his Jingling Court troubles, but he still had plenty of messes to deal with. Aizen’s plan could only be secondary.

”Tomorrow is Rukia Kuchiki’s execution day.”

The moment Aizen finished, Su Xiao was stunned and immediately rose from the crate.

Not just Su Xiao—Aizen and Gin Ichimaru both tensed up at the same time; they’d all sensed something.

”What... is that?”

Gin Ichimaru no longer wore his usual squinting smile, while Aizen’s hand closed around his Zanpakutō’s hilt.

Su Xiao’s gaze swept around. It wasn’t that some powerful enemy was approaching—with Aizen and Gin Ichimaru here, unless Yamamoto Genryuusai personally showed up, anyone else coming would just be throwing their life away.

He didn’t know if it was an illusion or something else, but Su Xiao felt as if something had just been born.

...

In the wilderness of District 80.

Large stretches of broken walls and ruins rose from the plains, and within those ruins, a surge of violet‑black Light spread outward.

”Sayanod, are you sure this is fine? I keep feeling this little thing is kind of dumb.”

As the violet‑black Light faded, a woman’s voice came from within the ruins.

”Stop squeezing its neck, it’s about to die. Death Omen, let go!”

”So weak it’s pathetic. I’ve been squatting here for more than ten days, and this is what you show me? Sayanod, what happened to the promised Void war beast? This thing is so lame.”

Death Omen’s voice held obvious disgust.

”Rebirth bodies are like this. I can assure you, when you were just born you didn’t necessarily look much better than it.”

”Tch, I was gorgeous the moment I was born—and I even smelled nice.”

Death Omen sounded somewhat scornful.

”And who told you that?”

”My mom.”

As Death Omen spoke she lifted her chin. The Sayanod in her hands sighed.

”As long as you’re happy. But things that smell nice right after they’re born are usually buns...”
