Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 1058: Chapter 1052 Parents are not easy_1

“Mom, what are you talking about? My siblings and I never felt any hardships. We’re thrilled to have parents like you. Look around this village, who else has parents like ours? Who else gets to read so many books, and eat their favorite food on their birthdays? Only our parents bear hardships without letting it affect us.”

“Other families are always fighting, but not ours. If we weren’t satisfied with such parents and such a home, wouldn’t we be ungrateful?” Qin Jiale replied upon hearing her mother’s words, holding her arm and resting her head on her shoulder. She felt truly happy to be part of such a family.

“Silly girl, isn’t it a parent’s duty to bring up their children? We haven’t done anything extraordinary.” replied Nangong Shulan, patting her youngest daughter’s head. Her children were growing up and understanding the hardships of parenthood, which made her both joyous and melancholic.

“No way, who said it’s all expected? Parenthood is hard, yet you and Dad managed to keep us all well-fed and warm. That’s fabulous! Unlike Qin Su’e’s family, our parents are the best in the world. Don’t you agree, sis?” Qin Jiale said, turning to Qin Xue who was leaning against the door with a smile on her face.

“Yes, our parents are the best in the world.” agreed Qin Xue, nodding. She felt fortunate to have been blessed with such loving parents.

“You two are something else. If your mother didn’t raise you, what else should she have done, just dumped you?”> asked Nangong Shulan, quite embarrassed by their overflowing praises.

“Mom would never do that. Speaking of which, what’s for dinner today?” Qin Xue, who was hungry, asked.

“Today isn’t just New Year’s Day, but also your little sister’s birthday. We’ll follow our tradition of making a few extra dishes.” Nangong Shulan, thinking about the additional family members and Mrs. Fang Xiu and her son, suggested adding a few more dishes.

“Since it’s my sister’s birthday, let’s make it more festive. How about we bake a birthday cake?” Qin Xue, who didn’t remember much about past events, didn’t realize that it was her sister’s birthday. If her mother hadn’t just mentioned it, she would have embarrassed herself.

“Why not? A cake will make the celebration more cheerful and enjoyable.”

“What’s a cake?” Nangong Shulan, who was a bit off-track from current societal norms, asked. She didn’t know what her eldest daughter was talking about, but someone else did.

“A cake? Really? That’s fantastic, sis, I love you the most!” Qin Jiale, excited to hear the news, had heard from her schoolmates about the delicious cakes, but they were all too extravagant for her to afford.

It’s not that she couldn’t afford it, the cake was a luxury item, sold out to the wealthy the moment it was made. Besides, a small piece of cake costs a dollar, which is equivalent to two days of her food budget. Despite being astonished hearing how delicious it was from her classmates, it was impossible for her to afford one. But now that her sister said she’d make a cake, she couldn’t contain her excitement.

“It’s just a cake, is that really something to get so excited about?” Qin Xue yawned, hungry and still sleep-deprived.

“Sis, do you even know how much a small piece of cake costs? And you’re saying it’s just a cake?” Qin Jiale was exasperated by her sister’s nonchalant response.
