Chapter 49: 49 Chapters Proper Fire’s 10 characters

”Murder! Help!”

Alka shouted as he ran toward the distant city gate. His deliberately piercing shouts had already awakened the guards at the gate.

Seeing Alka fleeing and shouting, they immediately grabbed their weapons and rushed toward his location.

”What’s wrong, sir?”

Alka, dressed somewhat formally, raised his hands high with a look of terror, his voice trembling as he pointed behind him.

”There’s a madman back there! He wants to kill me.”

Hearing his words, the guards looked behind Alka and saw a figure rushing out from the shadows. His running style was extremely exaggerated, an image that immediately suggested he was no benevolent figure, instantly putting the guards on alert.

The guards on the ground raised their halberds. Seeing their comrades’ actions, the guards on the distant city wall also raised their rifles.

Alka seized the opportunity, a panicked look on his face, to slip through a gap between them and retreat. He retreated all the way to the city gate, leaning against the wall and gasping for breath.

By now, Nivek was also charging toward the soldiers. Moonlight spilled down, illuminating his figure as he emerged from the shadows. Watching the enemy’s clown-like, exaggerated, and reckless sprint made the soldiers instantly tense.

Just then, someone on the city wall, who appeared to be a commander or a Squad Leader, suddenly shouted, ”Wait! Hold your fire!”

He seemed to recognize Nivek.

Hearing this, Alka had an instant premonition of trouble. Regardless of whether his suspicions were correct, he unhesitatingly bolted out of the city.

He then heard Nivek shout, ”That man escaping is a wanted criminal!”

”Damn it!”

Hearing this, Alka ran even faster.

The Squad Leader believed him without hesitation and immediately issued an order.

”Quick! Intercept that wanted criminal!”

The guards holding halberds were momentarily stunned, but after recovering, they quickly stepped aside to make way for Nivek. Meanwhile, the guards on the city wall raised their rifles, turned, and began aiming at Alka, who was already running outside the city.

”WHIZZ! WHIZZ!”

Bullets whizzed past Alka.

”Damn it, damn it,” Alka cursed, forced to change his running pattern and veer into the nearby flowering bushes. The dense plants could partially obscure the enemy’s vision, and the moonlight was dimmer there.

That clown couldn’t possibly know I’m actually a wanted criminal, Alka was sure. He just blurted it out to get the guards to cooperate and attack me.

Damn it, that lunatic actually hit the mark by accident!

This also indirectly suggested that the clown wasn’t the shady, underworld gangster Alka had imagined. He clearly had some kind of status and position.

Suddenly, Alka grunted in pain; a bullet had pierced his left arm. The sudden, sharp pain disrupted his running rhythm. He had to grit his teeth against the pain and duck into the gardens lining the road.

The bullets flying towards him began to strike randomly around the area. It was now almost impossible for them to hit Alka.

Alka could only clutch his injured left arm, trying his best to stanch the bleeding from the wound as he sprinted away. But the injury to his arm clearly hampered his escape speed.

Nivek also dashed into the garden after him.

”Feeling desperate? Afraid?” Nivek’s cruel, angry shout came from behind.

”Wasn’t it just because I beat you at Magic? Can’t handle losing, huh? Did you really need to go this far?!” Alka yelled back.

He’s a goddamn lunatic! Alka cursed internally, but his pace didn’t slow in the slightest.

The enemy’s taunts grew closer.

I’ll risk it!

Alka lowered the right hand that had been clutching his left arm. With a flick of his wrist, a red gradient card appeared in his palm. Without hesitation, he swiped the card across his belt. The Crystal Stone embedded in the side of his belt grazed the card. The Crystal Stone instantly emitted a faint blue glow, which flowed into the card like silken threads.

The blazing red cross on the card lit up instantly. The initially cool card now emanated a touch of warmth.

Alka unhesitatingly flung the card forward. The card skimmed along the ground, slicing through the stems of one flower after another before lodging itself in the soft earth ahead.

He then flung two more metallic cards backward.

By the dim moonlight, the enemy’s clownish face was now visible right in front of him.

Facing the two silver metallic cards Alka had thrown, Nivek had learned from the previous encounter. He didn’t even try to stop and dodge; instead, he charged forward fiercely. He executed a roll on the ground, letting the cards skim over his back, then lunged at Alka like a starving tiger.

Alka seemed exhausted, remaining in a half-squat. The Crystal Stone at his waist continued to emit a faint glow. By the moonlight, Alka could see Nivek, now only four or five meters away, already lunging toward him. The evil, contorted clown makeup on his face was hideous. The painted smile seemed to stretch almost to his ears.

”BANG!”

But a smile also touched Alka’s lips.

A pillar of fire, more than half a meter wide, suddenly erupted from the ground. It completely enveloped Nivek. Two more pillars of fire then shot out from his left and right. The Cross Flame erupted, with fire gushing outwards in four directions aligned with the card’s edges. The flames that shot towards the ground superheated it, spreading rapidly outwards.

The intense blaze instantly lit up the dark night. The surrounding flowers rapidly withered and blackened as they were consumed by the inferno. The intense light and heat from the flames illuminated Alka.

Nivek, engulfed in the flames, was clearly no longer smiling. The smile had transferred to Alka’s face.

Alka got up, clutching his left arm, and prepared to leave.

A figure wreathed in flames suddenly shot out of the inferno. He was covered in severe burns; his clothes had fused with his flesh, and the clown makeup had melted into his skin.

Alka’s eyes widened as he stared at the clown emerging from the fire.

He can still move?!

Dense red thorns covered all the charred areas of his body. They emitted a faint red glow.

Nivek now looked exactly like a fiend that had crawled out of the Abyss.

”Die!”

The hoarse, cruel shout accompanied several daggers, glinting with a cold light, as they flew toward Alka.

The sudden attack, coupled with the close proximity, meant Alka had no time to dodge sideways. A thin barrier of light suddenly materialized around him. The protective item Andre had given him activated.

Three deadly daggers pierced the light barrier, shattering it. However, they lost all momentum and clattered to the ground.

Only Nivek’s clawed right hand, trailing five streaks of blood-red light, struck Alka’s chest. It tore through his clothes, gouging five deep, bloody gashes into his chest and sending blood spraying.

Nivek landed lightly on his toes. His left hand, covered in burns and wrapped with patterns of crimson thorny vines, struck out at Alka again. This time, he aimed for Alka’s head.

The blood-red glow was inches away, reflected in Alka’s pupils.

”Silver Light·Beng Fist!”

A figure plummeted from mid-air, a fist shimmering with Silver Light crashing against the clawed left hand.
