Hijacking the Timeline

Before them stretched a sky filled with swirling sand and dust. Blinding gusts of wind whipped up rolling dunes, obscuring all visibility and instantly transporting them to what felt like another world.

The land here was barren.

As far as the eye could see, no vegetation existed—only yellow sand and howling winds.

The Joint Operations Battle Group warriors, already prepared, donned their breathing masks and followed Wang Yi forward.

Their figures quickly vanished into the swirling sand and dust.

Feng Qi and the Lord of the Mist landed nearby, following the footprints left in the sand. They maintained a safe distance from the Joint Operations Battle Group, using their consciousness to scout ahead.

Based on memories from the Sacrifice Line, Feng Qi knew Wang Yi would eventually be possessed by the Lord of the Mist, becoming part of its power.

However, he couldn’t determine whether this possession would occur during this very operation.

Thirteen days later.

After more than ten days of following, Feng Qi and the Lord of the Mist had traversed a considerable distance within the Domain Field.

During their journey, they encountered numerous energy wells built using human technology, designed to extract liquid spiritual energy from beneath the yellow sands.

However, these facilities had long been abandoned after exhausting their resources, now corroded by wind and sand.

Throughout their journey, they hadn’t encountered a single domain creature.

Feng Qi wasn’t surprised by this.

After all, the exploration of this Domain Field was nearly 90% complete, and domain warriors had traversed this path countless times.

Any domain creatures that might have lingered along the way had likely been cleared out.

The only remaining domain creatures were likely those clustered around the space crystals, belonging to the intelligent domain creature factions.

After spending so much time in this environment, Feng Qi was growing weary of the monotonous scenery.

His vision was filled with nothing but yellow sand and wind, devoid of any other colors to break the monotony.

As they continued following the Joint Battle Group, the wind intensified.

Tracking their footprints became impossible; the wind-whipped sand erased all traces of the Joint Operations Battle Group members’ passage in mere moments.

They could only rely on their senses to navigate the treacherous terrain.

Finally, after three days, they reached the central region of the Yellow Sand Domain Field.

The long-awaited probing war had begun.

Wang Yi, as the overall commander, led the initial assault against the city formed from coalesced yellow sand.

After briefly assessing the battlefield with his mental consciousness, Feng Qi turned to the Lord of the Mist:

”Prepare to move.”

The Lord of the Mist nodded solemnly, then transformed into mist and flew toward the combat zone.

Feng Qi remained behind, continuing to monitor the battle’s progress.

The fighting was fierce. Swirling yellow sand obscured many figures, forcing observers to rely on mental consciousness to track the chaotic situation.

This was the territory of intelligent domain creatures formed from yellow sand. They could coalesce their bodies from the surrounding sand and ambush Joint Operations Battle Group warriors by submerging themselves in the dunes.

However, both sides were clearly probing, holding back their full strength.

The Lord of the Mist hovered high above, his gaze fixed on Wang Yi, awaiting his opportunity.

Time flowed onward.

Many warriors were forever buried in the yellow sand during the battle, while even more creatures from the Yellow Sand Domain shattered their life origins and vanished.

War is inherently cruel, always accompanied by death.

Observing the conflict, the Lord of the Mist finally seized an opportunity. While Wang Yi was pursuing an intelligent domain creature, he launched his attack.

The gray mist enveloped Wang Yi, who had just stepped out of the battle group’s formation, and carried her skyward.

Sensing Wang Yi’s sudden loss of contact, her personal guards immediately rushed to the spot where she had disappeared.

But by then, Wang Yi had already been carried high into the sky, leaving no trace behind.

Feng Qi’s perception followed the mist skyward.

Enveloped by the Lord of the Mist and carried into the sky, Wang Yi refused to surrender. She immediately retaliated, her internal energy surging like a tide, repeatedly striking the mist and tearing gaps in it.

Yet the mist swiftly coalesced, refusing to release its grip on Wang Yi.

The fierce battle raged for over ten minutes, energy waves occasionally flashing across the sky.

The Lord of the Mist and Wang Yi’s battle took place high in the sky, and the wind and sand devoured the sounds of their clash, preventing the warriors of the Joint Operations Battle Group engaged in combat below from noticing.

The aerial battle continued for about ten more minutes before everything fell silent.

At that moment, the Lord of the Mist, still holding Wang Yi, descended to Feng Qi’s side. The mist face materialized, its gaze fixed on Feng Qi as it spoke:

”I’m about to begin the body possession. Protect me.”

Feng Qi nodded immediately.

The gray mist contracted, seeping into Wang Yi’s body through her mouth, nose, eyes, and ears.

A fierce mental clash erupted within her.

Feng Qi couldn’t sense the progress of the battle with his mental consciousness; he could only wait helplessly.

After an indeterminate amount of time, he noticed changes in Wang Yi’s body.

A faint gray mist began to emanate from her, swirling around her surface.

Gradually, a strand of purple appeared in Wang Yi’s black hair, rapidly spreading to devour the darkness.

In the end, her hair transformed completely into a vibrant purple.

Seeing this, Feng Qi realized the Lord of the Mist clearly held the upper hand and was close to completing the body possession.

He had sensed this from their previous interactions.

Humans possessed by the Lord of the Mist shared a common trait: their hair and eyes would turn purple.

This included Lin Ran.

After several more minutes of waiting, Wang Yi opened her eyes, a familiar smile spreading across her face.

”I succeeded.”

”Congratulations,” Feng Qi replied, smiling back. ”Now hurry back to the battlefield. This mission was just a probing attack. You can bring them back now. These are all forces we’ll need in the future, so minimize casualties.”

”No rush. I made an unexpected discovery in her memories.”

”What discovery?”

”I found out Wang Yi is a Hidden One planted among humans by the Domain Force!”

”Wang Yi actually submitted to the Domain Force?” Feng Qi exclaimed, visibly shocked.

He had always assumed Wang Yi was only exploited by the Domain Force after being possessed by the Lord of the Mist. But the Lord of the Mist’s words revealed a far more complex truth.

The Lord of the Mist grinned.

”How interesting. It seems we’ve not only gained a battle group, but we might also be able to exploit this identity to extract benefits from that Domain Force.”
