I Was Summoned as the Weakest Hero, But I Awakened a Military System

The steady, rhythmic cadence of a soft electronic chime pierced through the fog in her mind.

Beep... beep... beep...

Her eyelids felt heavy, like lead weights holding down centuries of darkness. Slowly, with a shallow, ragged breath, she forced them open.

Bright, sterile white light flooded her vision. Blinking against the glare, she stared upward at a bizarre, seamless white tiled ceiling illuminated by long, humming rectangular panels of pale luminescence. There were no wooden rafters, no vaulted stone arches, and no sacred draconic carvings.

The air was completely alien—crisp, cool, and smelling of strange, sharp antiseptics and clean cotton.

She tried to move her hand, but a faint prick of sharp resistance on the back of her left wrist made her freeze.

She looked down. A transparent, flexible tube was taped directly to her pale skin, feeding clear fluid from a hanging plastic pouch into a needle sunk straight into her vein. Beside the bed, a dark rectangular machine flashed with neon green numbers and rhythmic pulse waves, ticking in exact synchronization with the beating of her own heart.

A blood-draining artifact...? A torture chamber?!

Panic spiked through her veins like ice water.

Before she could rip the needle from her flesh, the pneumatic sliding door hissed open. A human woman dressed in clean, light-blue scrub garments stepped into the room holding a flat, glowing glass tablet.

”Oh, you’re finally awake,” the nurse said warmly, offering a gentle smile as she reached toward the bed rail to check the fluid line. ”Take it easy, sweetheart. You’ve been through a lot of—”

The elf girl’s survival instincts, honed by whatever forgotten battles she had fought before the freeze, took over instantly.

She didn’t know where she was, who these strange beings were, or what kind of parasitic sorcery was strapped to her wrist. All she knew was that she had to escape.

SLAP!

With blinding, fluid speed, the elf girl swung her arm, swatting the nurse’s outstretched hand away. In the same motion, she ripped the IV catheter out of her vein with a sharp hiss of teeth, kicked the sterile white blankets off her legs, and vaulted off the high mattress.

The nurse stumbled back against the wall, startled. ”Whoa! Code Blue in Recovery Three! Restraint team, now!”

Two armed security soldiers clad in OCP fatigues, tactical vests, and carrying sidearms immediately charged through the open doorway.

”Ma’am, stand down! You’re in a hospital!” the lead soldier barked, dropping his stance and lunging forward to wrap his arms around her waist in a standard takedown.

The elf girl didn’t flinch. Even with her mana reserves completely dried up, her physical reflexes and ancient combat muscle memory remained razor-sharp.

She pivoted gracefully on the ball of her bare foot, shifting her center of gravity beneath the soldier’s forward momentum. Grabbing his outstretched wrist with both hands, she dropped her hips and used his own kinetic rush against him, executing a flawless, sweeping shoulder throw.

WHAM!

The two-hundred-pound armored soldier flew over her shoulder, slamming hard onto the linoleum floor with a concussive thud that knocked the wind clean out of his chest.

The second soldier lunged from her flank, attempting to grapple her arms from behind.

Without looking, the elf girl dropped low, snapped her elbow backward directly into the unarmored gap beneath his ribcage, and swept her leg in a fluid, low circular arc. Her heel hooked behind his tactical boot, cleanly kicking his balance out from under him.

THUD!

The second guard crashed flat onto his back.

Before either soldier could draw a sidearm or recover, she sprang up onto the foot of the bed in a low, coiled predatory stance. Her silver hair whipped wildly around her shoulders, her pointed ears pinned back in a defensive hiss, and her deep amethyst eyes burned with pure, cornered defiance.

She was ready to fight her way through the entire fortress.

She didn’t linger. She darted through the open doorway and burst into the corridor, her amethyst eyes darting left and right, scanning for an exit.

The hallway was a dizzying expanse of bright, sterile geometry. Medical staff and uniformed personnel backed against the white walls in alarm, shouting orders she couldn’t comprehend. She ignored them entirely, running on pure instinct toward a pair of double doors marked with glowing red signs at the far end of the corridor.

She slammed her palms against the crash bar, throwing the emergency doors wide open, and burst into the open air.

RUUUUUUUUSH!

The sensory impact hit her like a physical wall.

She skidded to an abrupt halt at the edge of the concrete pavilion, her breath catching in her throat. Her sensitive elven ears twitched violently, overwhelmed by a symphony of unnatural, rhythmic roars and the heavy scent of hot asphalt, refined fuel, and sea salt.

Nothing here made sense.

There were no enchanted spires of white marble, no living wood pavilions, and no ancient stone temples. Instead, spread out across the landscape beneath a brilliant midday sun was a staggering metropolis of steel, reinforced concrete, and asphalt.

Black, multi-lane roads stretched across the green island like flawless geometric veins. Massive, box-like armored carriages with thick rubber wheels rumbled along the pavement without a single beast of burden pulling them.

ROOOOOOOOOOOOAAAR!

The sky detonated with a sudden, ear-splitting thunderclap that vibrated deep in her chest.

She flinched, instinctively dropping into a low defensive crouch as she shielded her eyes and looked up.

High above the island, an angular, dark gray metal beast streaked across the sky at impossible speed, trailing twin lines of vapor and a deafening sonic roar. It moved faster than any dragon or wyvern she had ever heard of, banking sharply over the northern horizon without a single flap of wings.

Her mind spun. Her memories were fractured, swallowed by a thick, suffocating fog that erased her past and her own identity. Who was she? What was this civilization of metal, lightning, and steel monsters? Was she still trapped in an illusion?

Then, through the chaos and sensory overload, a clear memory cut through the haze.

A pitch-black cavern filled with smoke and gunfire.

A shattered crystalline prison.

A pair of cold, glowing green-and-white lenses staring down at her.

And the voice of the heavily armored warrior who had caught her as she fell, shielding her from the abyss and tearing through high-tier horrors without a single incantation.

John.

John Smith.

Her defensive posture softened slightly as she looked around the bustling, impossible base. The panic in her chest began to recede, replaced by a lingering, desperate curiosity.

And moments later.

”You’re finally awake.”

A familiar voice reached her ears. Her head snapped in the direction of the voice.

Walking across the sunlit concrete pavilion toward her was a tall, broad-shouldered young man. He wasn’t wearing the heavy ballistic helmet, night-vision goggles, or tactical mask from before. Instead, his sharp features, steady blue eyes, and short blonde hair were laid bare under the midday sun. He was dressed in a crisp set of camouflage fatigues, a pair of dark combat boots, and carried no weapons in his hands.

Her deep amethyst eyes widened beautifully in pure, radiant recognition.

The icy dread that had gripped her chest since the moment she opened her eyes shattered completely. The fierce, feral tension in her shoulders melted away, her pointed ears lifting as the wild wind caught her shimmering silver hair, letting it dance across her delicate, porcelain face.

”John...” she whispered, her melodic voice trembling with immense relief.

John stopped a few paces away, offering a faint, reassuring smile. He casually gestured around him.

”Easy there,” John said softly, his tone relaxed and welcoming. ”You’re safe. You are in my base.”

He glanced back toward the open emergency doors of the hospital, where the two slightly bruised security guards were cautiously peeking out, rubbing their sore shoulders.

John chuckled dryly, shaking his head.

”Though I have to say, you gave my medical team and security detail quite a workout the second you woke up,” he added, looking back at her. ”Can’t blame you, though. You’ve been completely out cold for three whole days.”

”Three... days?” she repeated softly, blinking in mild astonishment as she looked down at her hands.

”Yes, so why don’t we formally discuss everything?”

He extended an open hand toward her, similar to how he offered his hand from the dungeon.

She reached out and grabbed his hand.
