Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

In the evening, Celestial Horse Island welcomed the liveliest moment since the disaster outbreak. To gather everyone together, it was finally decided to set the banquet in the parking lot!

Three roaring bonfires were burning, with nine tables surrounding them. While dispelling the cold around, they also brought a touch of brightness.

Before the disaster, the materials for lighting a bonfire might have been logs or firewood, but now the main fuel was zombie corpses, creating a unique atmosphere that made everyone truly feel the apocalypse was beside them.

It wasn’t that coal was unaffordable, but zombie bodies were more cost-effective!

Each of the nine tables had a charcoal hot pot of different styles. The ingredients on the tables were relatively simple, mainly consisting of vegetables, with little meat visible. However, there was a batch of hot pot balls brought over from Kuanzhuang, supposedly found in a small food processing workshop. Perhaps not healthy, but definitely delicious. Apart from that, the staple food was noodles.

To ensure everyone could eat and drink to their fill, a whole 50-pound bag of flour was used, with each person getting a pound of handmade noodles. The hot and spicy hot pot broth cooked with noodles and other ingredients allowed everyone to eat heartily and speak highly of it. It wouldn’t be entirely filling, but certainly not leaving anyone hungry.

On a vast expanse of land north of Qin City, stretching 30 kilometers south, 50 kilometers north, at least 15 kilometers east, and four to five kilometers west over the mountain, only Celestial Horse Island was bustling with voices. Whether other places had people was uncertain.

In the cold weather, hundreds of people sat in the spacious parking lot, with bonfires reflecting and hot steam rising. Toasting with water, barriers set at the gate, patrol members carrying rifles on their backs, a large zombie sitting in a corner, the apocalyptic atmosphere was fully present.

Other survivor camps’ situations were unknown to Zhang Su, but he could be sure that Celestial Horse Island under his rule was definitely not lacking.

“Everyone, I raise a glass!”

After three rounds of dishes and five flavors of drinks, taking advantage of the right atmosphere, Zhang Su announced one by one the measures for the future development of the camp.

Some measures would have been highly unreasonable in the past, even appearing somewhat inhumane, but in the apocalypse, with survival as the primary premise, they were not an issue. Compared to the uncertain days before, they even seemed quite good.

“No matter whether you are from United Village, West Camp Village, or Kuanzhuang, those who have survived the apocalypse are capable people. And capable people should contribute to the camp. Now, I will assign positions to capable comrades!”

Hearing this, many people unconsciously put down their chopsticks, as they were nearly done eating anyway, and pricked up their ears to listen to the important content.

“First, Wang Longzhong. Old Wang is practical and diligent, hardworking and serious, I appoint him as Deputy Director of the Logistics Department. He will assist Zhong Xiaoshan in her work in the future!”

Hearing his name mentioned first, Wang Longzhong immediately stood straight, and loudly said, “I guarantee to complete the mission!”

“Don’t be so serious. Alright, next is Yang Liehuo, who is honest and principled. I appoint you as the Reserve Team Captain, responsible for training and ideological work of the reserve team!”

Most people from Kuanzhuang sat in relatively remote positions, and Yang Liehuo was shocked to hear his name. When he learned that he would become the Reserve Team Captain, his expression was greatly surprised, and for a moment, he forgot to respond.

“Old Huo?”

Zhang Su noticed Yang Liehuo standing there in a daze and called him out.

“Grandpa Huo!”

Su Xiaoya was sitting right next to Yang Liehuo. Seeing him frowning and pondering while ignoring the call, she hurriedly tugged at his sleeve.

“Ah, oh. Well… Younger Brother Zhang, my skills are limited and my abilities are average. I’m afraid I won’t be able to do it.”

Yang Liehuo really wanted this position because if he took it, it would be easier for those in Kuanzhuang who wanted to join the Reserve Team. However, precisely because of this, he feared he might make mistakes due to nepotism, so he simply declined.

Upon hearing Yang Liehuo refuse, the young ladies and wives from Kuanzhuang were somewhat depressed. Most couldn’t think as far ahead as Yang Liehuo; they only knew it was easier to have their own people in power. Only a few understood his predicament.

Zhang Su raised a hand and said, “Now is not like before. Forget about formalities. If you have the ability, you should do more work. If you find it difficult to manage, I will assign you two Vice Captains!”

With that, he pointed and said, “Lü Leiyang, Pan Guoliang!”

“Yes!”

“Wha, what?”

The difference in their responses revealed the contrast between the two.

Pan Guoliang stood up as if there were springs under his seat, while Lü Leiyang slowly and awkwardly stood up, pointing to his nose with a face full of disbelief.

“You two are the Vice Captains of the Reserve Team. Coordinate with Yang Liehuo in his work. Any problems?”

“No problems!”

“No problem…”

Pan Guoliang’s affirmative response was loud and clear, heard by everyone present, while Lü Leiyang seemed a bit deflated, appearing unwilling.

Those unfamiliar with Lü Leiyang might not think much of it, but Celestial Horse Island’s core members were puzzled by Zhang Su’s decision. They didn’t understand why a sissy would be appointed as a Vice Captain of the Reserve Team…

Zhang Su’s decisions were not open to questioning. After thorough consideration with Yuwen, it was decided that although Lü Leiyang seemed effeminate, he trained hard every time and grew quickly, ranking among the top in progress.

Moreover, he was merely different in gender identity and orientation; in other aspects, not only did he have no problems, but he was reliable in his duties, enthusiastic, and got along well with both men and women. There was no issue in appointing him to the role.

The appointment continued as Zhang Su directed his attention to Ma Changshou, who intentionally didn’t sit with the people from West Camp Village.

“Next is Ma Changshou, knowledgeable, diligent, and pragmatic. I appoint you as the Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Technical Consultant for Celestial Horse Island. You will guide the camp’s planting and breeding-related work in the future!”

Ma Changshou had been waiting for this moment. With a smile, he stood up, cupped his hands, and said joyfully, “Not talented, just understand a little. Thank you, Boss Zhang, for your trust. I will do my best!”

The people from West Camp Village had felt very down when they saw people from United Village, Kuanzhuang, and even the Cyan Dragon Corps being appointed to positions, fearing a repeat of the past where lack of talent above led to suffering. But now, hearing Ma Changshou being appointed as a technical consultant, they were happy, regardless of the size of the position.

“Now, let’s applaud those appointed!”

Zhang Su led the applause, which soon resonated among the tables.
