Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 564: Chapter 97: Test Subjects

”So damn many ancient robots!”

At this moment, the player trio was caught in a monster-fighting battle.

Atomic City, at an amusement park

Justice’s Security Manager and I am a Big Muscle Dominator are hiding behind cover, shooting while carefully dodging the flying blades coming from a distance.

Honestly, the robots are not difficult to kill. The level 10 ones that look like ’Edward Scissorhands’ lawn-mowing robots, the level 13 ones that resemble ’White’ freight robots, and the level 14 ones with curvy shapes but no bionic skin ’Service Robots’.

These former rookie killers are now just easy prey for the players, like shooting kids.

It’s just that there are quite a lot of them.

So the two were responsible for stalling, while the Rock Chef God was tasked with switching off the power—they discovered that this group of robots were actually all chargeable.

”Damn, Muscle Dominator, don’t charge too aggressively!”

Just as the automatic machine guns on the Security Manager’s back module stopped firing, a glance saw Big Muscle Dominator swinging his new gorilla arm model and directly charging. Flames spewed from the elbow, and he jumped three meters, smashing into the logistics robots, flattening one’s head with a punch. His palm machine guns burst out, spraying at a few surrounding ’Mechanical Whites’, having a blast, and then suddenly felt an itch on his back. Looking up, he saw several ’Bee-type Drones’ shooting at him.

”Damn! Manager, cover me with the sniper!”

The Security Manager didn’t waste any words; the side of his thigh, shoulder, and small arm suddenly opened, revealing parts of an electromagnetic sniper rifle. In less than three seconds, it assembled into a fine-level sniper rifle. However, before he could aim, with a ’pop’, all the robots collapsed, including those flying vehicles in the sky, all paralyzed.

”Done, I pulled the power,” the voice of the Chef God came through the headset.

I am a Big Muscle Dominator couldn’t help but kick a downed robot and curse, ”What the hell, these old-school robots still need charging.”

The Security Manager picked up one robot, pulled at its back, and out came a charging cable as thick as a forearm.

”Pre-World War II robot technology is obviously outdated compared to modern standards. After all, at that time, artificial intelligence could only work on computers.”

”Come over, I found something interesting.”

The three of them dug through trash for more than half a day and confirmed one thing: this is not a dead tomb but a living one.

The so-called ’living tomb’ means this place has an autonomously operating defense system, and possibly an old artificial intelligence.

”If it’s a shelter, then we’ve hit the jackpot!” On the road, I am a Big Muscle Dominator couldn’t help but say.

”Doesn’t look like it. More like a research base. Its storage center is above. If it were a shelter, there would be grain and seed storage below. And looking at these old engines, they shouldn’t be from the end of the empire.”

The two found an underground passage and walked in, chatting as they went.

”Then it’s not interesting.”

At the end of the empire, to deal with the ’alien war’, all governments on this planet built a large number of shelters underground and stored a lot of weapons and equipment. According to the players, it’s ’Nine Dragons Coffin Tomb’.

Soon, the two came to the place the Rock Chef mentioned, an underground signal reception center. Besides the rusty smell on the ground, there were piles of paper materials.

”Robot... consciousness... development plan,” Big Muscle Dominator barely made out a few words with the system’s translation function.

”So this is basically a robot factory.”

With a glance, it was full of old robot development equipment, all rusted. Even the Security Manager was disappointed.

”No, that’s not it,” the Rock Chef God appeared out of nowhere, holding a test tube, looking excited.

”There’s a new robot development route here!”

”Huh?”

According to the Chef God, not all robots are the same, and the differences among them are greater than those between humans and dogs.

On this planet, there are three robot paths. One is ’Mechanical Modified People’, who are implanted with mechanical prosthetic bodies, half-human and half-machine, simply put, like the three of them.

The second is ’Biochemical Robots’, which have human-like appearances with mechanical materials. A typical example is ’Bionic Man’.

The third is the legendary ’Energy Mechanism’, mechanical life that originates its life energy from spark, a product of Mother City technology.

But according to the information the Chef found, there’s actually a fourth type of robot here.

’Atomic Machine!’

”What does that mean? Robots the size of atoms?”

”Exactly, robots the size of atoms!”

”Follow me.”

The three followed the Rock Chef God through a series of large doors, finally arriving at a ’Biological Laboratory’, where there were pieces of equipment resembling ’optical microscopes’.

”Here lies a world of atomic life that has died!”

...

”Atomic Mechanical Life Experimental Plan.”

Gao Gong held information that was much more extensive than that of the three players, even tracing back to the founder of the ’Atomic Research Institute’, Dr. Xie Lin.

The gist of this plan was to modify lifeforms at the atomic level, incorporating mechanical attributes into atoms. So when atoms form a cell, the cell splits into egg and sperm cells, merging them would directly create a ’small robot’.

Similarly, humans would be 100% mechanized from birth without needing any prosthetic implantation.

After which, the plan got suspended.

The reason is that this plan is too damn ahead of its time, concerns not meant for low-level civilizations!

In fact, later, the upper echelons of civilized governments realized this and abolished the plan.

However, the plan’s initiator, Dr. Xie Lin, disagreed entirely, taking an even more radical path, attempting to create mechanical life at the atomic level.

The plan’s unreliability was like researching atomic bombs during the steam era.

Eventually, the Atomic Research Institute went bankrupt and was closed, Dr. Xie Lin disappeared, and the Institute reopened as a sci-fi-themed amusement attraction, now known as Atomic City, filled with various types of robots.

But because there are a great number of ’Cell Storage Libraries’ here, the remaining ’virus’ was transferred here.

Due to the virus’s indirect influence, the service robots here became very aggressive.

”Not to mention, this kind of virus needs a lot of infected individuals to evolve, right.”

Miao Miaomiao shrugged and sighed, ”Although our company is not short of money, our bad reputation precedes us. Both mechanical life and mechanical transformers avoid us, plus, we’re still on the run from those mechanical men, so we can’t openly recruit people for experiments.”

Gao Gong touched his chin:

”Now that you mention it, I know what to do.”
