Celestial Beast Taming

Chapter 263: Chapter 164: Zhong Yi’s Dragon Carp

A few customers even started arguing over who would get this Dragon Carp.

The owner had to call over a patrol from the Longya Army, which was responsible for maintaining order at the Dragon Soaring Association, to quell the conflict.

”Xiaoyi, Ah Tao, since we’ve all picked our Dragon Carp, let’s head over to the Hidden Dragon Waterfall and get ready.”

”Once we’ve raised the Dragon Carp, we can place them directly in the upper stream of the Hidden Dragon Waterfall. They’ll follow the current down and attempt to leap through the Dragon Gates below.”

”This event only happens on the first day of the Dragon Soaring Association. The following days are just various performances and trade fairs.”

”The Energy in the Dragon Pool is finite and won’t be replenished once it’s used up, so the sooner the Dragon Carp leap through the Dragon Gates, the better.”

”If several Dragon Carp pass through the ninth Dragon Gate at the same Dragon Soaring Association event, the prize will be divided equally.”

”However, the first person whose Dragon Carp passes through the gate gets priority ownership of the prize.”

”That person can choose to keep the prize and give the other owners whose Dragon Carp also passed the ninth Dragon Gate an equivalent value in Alliance Coins.”

”Haha, those are the rules, but in past years, there has never been a case where two Dragon Carp passed through the ninth Dragon Gate at the same time.”

”After all, once a Dragon Carp leaps into the Dragon Pool and absorbs its Energy, any subsequent Dragon Carp entering the pool won’t be nourished by the Dragon Qi to get a boost.”

Hearing this, Zhong Yi thought to himself, ’Besides ensuring my Crimson Monochromatic Dragon Carp can pass the ninth Dragon Gate, I also need to make sure it absorbs as much Dragon Qi from the Dragon Pool as possible after passing each gate. Even if it’s not for its own improvement, I have to limit the other Dragon Carp that might have a chance to pass through.’

Since Cao Xing’an was willing to put a Dragon Blood Rose in the prize pool, Zhong Yi didn’t believe he would come completely unprepared.

However, even if Cao Xing’an’s own Dragon Carp had the ability to pass the ninth Dragon Gate, he wouldn’t enter it into the competition this early.

If a Dragon Carp passed all nine Dragon Gates right at the start, it would greatly diminish other people’s interest in buying Dragon Carp for the Dragon Soaring Association, which would affect the event’s success.

By the time Zhong Yi and the others arrived at the Hidden Dragon Waterfall, the area upstream was already packed with people.

All the cultivation rooms used for raising Dragon Carp were full, with dozens of people lined up in front of each one.

Fortunately, the Longya City officials had reserved spots for distinguished guests, and He Meisi, the Steward from the Celestial Destiny Society, had made arrangements in advance.

Inside the cultivation room, Zhong Yi looked at the Crimson Monochromatic Dragon Carp—nearly a meter long with broad fins and tail—but he wasn’t in a hurry to start raising it.

Instead of feeding the Drunken Dragon Jade and Flowing Soul Soil to the Crimson Monochromatic Dragon Carp now, it would be better for it to absorb their Energy when it started leaping the Dragon Gates.

Otherwise, if Zhong Yi were to use the Flowing Soul Soil to enhance this Dragon Carp now and trigger a Bloodline transformation, its appearance would definitely change significantly.

In that case, the Dragon Carp he had just registered would likely be disqualified.

He wanted the Crimson Monochromatic Dragon Carp to gradually absorb the Drunken Dragon Jade and Flowing Soul Soil while in the Dragon Pool.

This might be difficult for others, but for Zhong Yi, it wasn’t hard at all.

Back in the Ice Cave Secret Realm, Zhong Yi had used the Poison Sacs of Mire Snake Lizard Demons to wrap the venom of the Ten Thousand Corrosive Poison Mother, creating Poisonous Bubble Crisps that he airdropped on the Snowstorm Ape Community.

The Poison Sacs wrapped around the venom delayed the time it took for the venom to take effect.

Zhong Yi had Hong Ji first wrap the Flowing Soul Soil and Drunken Dragon Jade in a thin membrane before feeding them to the Crimson Monochromatic Dragon Carp.

Then, he took the Dragon Carp straight to the contestant’s channel, had the staff mark it with fluorescent paint, and sent it down the Hidden Dragon Waterfall with the current.

The rushing water would drive these low-intelligence Dragon Carp, which were not in a Contract with a Guardian Beast Master, to leap toward the wider area.

The first few Dragon Gates wouldn’t be difficult for this Crimson Monochromatic Dragon Carp with its SS Level potential rating.

The membranes on the ”Drunken Dragon Jade Great Fortunes” and ”Soul-Flowing Earth Crispy Bubbles” that Zhong Yi had Hong Ji specially make were of varying thicknesses.

Therefore, they would activate at different times inside the Crimson Monochromatic Dragon Carp’s stomach.

They would likely only begin to take effect after the Dragon Carp passed the third Dragon Gate.

The Drunken Dragon Jade and Flowing Soul Soil would then be gradually absorbed by the Crimson Monochromatic Dragon Carp over the course of half a day.

Even if there was no Dragon Qi left in the Dragon Pool, this would still ensure that the Crimson Monochromatic Dragon Carp could leap through the gates one by one, helping Zhong Yi win the prize.

After successfully entering his Dragon Carp into the competition, Zhong Yi went to Wen Tao’s cultivation room.

He found Wen Tao hadn’t started raising his Dragon Carp yet. Instead, he was staring with a conflicted expression at the red-and-white bicolor Dragon Carp swimming leisurely in the water before him.

Seeing Zhong Yi, Wen Tao subconsciously asked him,

”Xiaoyi, I got two bottles of slow-release Dragon Blood Potion from Elder Cui.”

”I’m wondering if I should soak this Dragon Carp in the Dragon Blood Potion and also feed it some of the Drunken Dragon Jade you gave me.”

”I just don’t think this Dragon Carp has a chance of passing the ninth Dragon Gate, even if I do raise it.”

If it were just a small investment, Wen Tao would have taken the gamble without hesitation.

But both the two bottles of slow-release Dragon Blood Potion and the Drunken Dragon Jade were extremely valuable.

Wen Tao could afford these resources, but his other Contracted Guardian Beasts also needed them.

Facing Wen Tao, Zhong Yi thought for a moment before speaking directly.

”Brother Tao, the prize you’re hoping to win is the Dragon Blood Rose, right?”

”You want to use the flowers of the Dragon Blood Rose to have a Six-finger Creator concoct a Potion to strengthen your Contracted Guardian Beast’s Dragon Breath.”

”If that’s the case, you can wait and see if my Dragon Carp brings some good news.”

”If my Dragon Carp hasn’t achieved a good result by two in the afternoon, it won’t be too late for you to raise this red-and-white one and take your gamble then.”

Zhong Yi didn’t just come out and say that the red-and-white bicolor Dragon Carp’s potential wasn’t good enough.

That would have been the same as refuting Wen Tao’s judgment!

Others didn’t have the All Things Exploration ability, so their judgment of a Guardian Beast’s potential was highly subjective.

Zhong Yi couldn’t guarantee that his own Crimson Monochromatic Dragon Carp would succeed either, so he simply offered this suggestion.

In truth, Wen Tao had already been thinking of giving up before Zhong Yi came in.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been staring at the Dragon Carp, conflicted, for so long without starting to raise it.

Hearing Zhong Yi’s words, Wen Tao sighed softly.

”Forget it. Giving these two bottles of Dragon Blood Potion and a dozen or so pieces of Drunken Dragon Jade to a single Dragon Carp is too much of a waste.”

Wen Tao’s Guardian Beasts truly needed these resources. Using them on a Dragon Carp was less practical than saving them for his Order Beast.

A Guardian Beast like the Dragon Blood Rose, which produces the main ingredient for Sixth Level Potions, couldn’t be exchanged for in the Celestial Destiny Society’s Treasure Vault.

However, the flowers of a Dragon Blood Rose might occasionally appear in the Celestial Destiny Society’s Treasure Vault.

’I’ll just wait until my strength increases and I reach the Immortal Tier,’ Wen Tao decided. ’Then I can use my Potential Points as a Celestial Destiny Seeker to exchange for the Dragon Blood Rose flowers. At that time, I’ll gather more resources and ask the Star Emperor to help me hire a Six-finger Creator to concoct the Potion. That way, the Dragon Breath of my Order Beast, the Biluo Spring Dragon, and my other contracted Dragon Species Guardian Beasts can all be enhanced.’

Zhong Yi had indeed created many miracles in the Secret Realm and had even obtained two points of Divine Origin Value in succession. He was also a Healing-type Celestial Destiny Seeker who could heal the damaged Origin of an Immortal Tier Guardian Beast even while at the Mortal Beast Tier. ’But Zhong Yi isn’t a Creator, after all,’ Wen Tao mused. ’How could he possibly create a miracle with a Dragon Carp he just bought?’

Wen Tao had to admit that hearing about the Dragon Blood Rose had made him too eager, causing his mindset to become somewhat restless.

After collecting his thoughts, Wen Tao said softly to Zhong Yi,

”Xiaoyi, Elder Cui and the others are probably already waiting for us outside.”

”He Meisi just called me. She said she’s arranged a special viewing platform for us.”

”We can head to the viewing platform to watch the Dragon Carp leap the Dragon Gates while we try some of Longya City’s local delicacies.”

”Even if our Dragon Carp don’t win a prize, it’ll still be good to see the Anomalies born from the Dragon Carp’s Dragon Qi.”
