Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

Annie York nodded. ”Of course, Miss Reed.”

Preston Vance stood up. ”Perfect timing. Let’s go together.”

”Alright.”

The two of them left the hospital together. The last rays of the setting sun bathed the land, and the streets were bustling with traffic.

Preston Vance glanced at her expression and asked, ”It didn’t work out?”

”No.”

Chloe Reed looked dejected. This matter had been dragging on for far too long.

Preston Vance said, ”Did Mr. Grant have second thoughts again?”

”I don’t know.” Chloe Reed sighed. ”Until the divorce is finalized, I’m not withdrawing the lawsuit. This has to be done, whether he likes it or not.”

Preston Vance nodded. ”You’re very determined. Seeing as you’re in such a bad mood, let me treat you to a meal.”

He glanced at his watch and said, ”Someone recommended a small tavern to me. The food is supposed to be very good.”

Chloe Reed’s eyes lit up. ”Okay.”

At that moment, she really did feel like having a drink.

Otherwise, there was no way to dispel the suffocating feeling weighing on her heart.

Preston Vance said, ”Just take my car. We can head home together afterward.”

Chloe Reed thought for a moment. If she drank, she wouldn’t be able to drive. So, she readily agreed.

”Okay.”

By the time they arrived at the tavern, night had fallen. Warm-toned lights were aglow, and the moment they stepped inside, they could smell the faint aroma of wine drifting in the air.

”Mr. Vance, you’re here.”

The tavern owner came over to greet them with a smile.

There was a Western-style counter nearby, where the owner, wearing an apron, was preparing a steak.

Preston Vance found a random spot, pulled out a chair for her, and then said, ”How about we try the house specialty?”

”Sounds good.” Chloe Reed nodded.

Preston Vance turned to say something to the owner. When he returned, he had two bottles of wine in his hands.

”This is from the owner’s private collection. It’s been aged for over ten years, so it’s bound to be excellent.”

Chloe Reed looked at the dark bottle and asked, ”If it’s from his private collection, why did he give it to you?”

Preston Vance raised an eyebrow slightly. ”Perhaps because he saw that I rarely bring a woman here?”

Chloe Reed gave a helpless smile. ”Alright, then. I won’t let this wine go to waste.”

Preston Vance poured her a glass. The wine was clear, reflecting the light.

Chloe Reed took a small sip. The taste wasn’t harsh; instead, it had a faint sweetness.

’This is just the kind of flavor I like!’

”You like it?”

Preston Vance noticed the change in her expression, a gentle smile on his lips.

”It’s delicious.” Chloe Reed nodded.

Preston Vance then said, ”Even if you like it, don’t drink too much. This kind of wine has a strong kick.”

”Mm, I’m waiting for the house specialty.”

Preston Vance rested his hands on the table and looked at her seriously. ”When you go out for a drink, you’re supposed to pour out all your troubles. Otherwise, they just stay bottled up inside. I can be your sounding board. I promise you, everything I hear tonight, I’ll forget the moment I walk out that door.”

Chloe Reed was amused by his solemn expression and shook her head. ”It’s not that much, really. It’s mainly that the divorce hasn’t been finalized, and also...”

Preston Vance watched her with extra seriousness. ”And also what?”

Chloe Reed held her wine glass, pondering for a long while before she finally said, ”Eight years ago, I saved Walker Grant during an earthquake. But now, he says the person who saved him was Sunny Reed.”

After she finished speaking, she downed her glass of wine. In truth, this matter had always bothered her.

Because back then, in the first bloom of love, she had poured all her affection into him, unafraid even in such a dangerous place.

But he just had to insist that the one who saved him was Sunny Reed.

’How could it possibly be Sunny Reed?’
