Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

The old woman gently stroked her hair and said slowly, ”I was prepared for this. From the moment she offered to take care of me, I knew she had an ulterior motive.”

Chloe Reed looked confused. ”Then why did you let her stay and take care of you?”

Her grandmother sighed. ”It’s absurd, I know, but I wanted to see if there was any sincerity in her at all.”

And the result was, inevitably, a disappointment.

Chloe Reed leaned her head on the bed by her grandmother’s hand again, her heart aching.

’That’s her own daughter. The daughter she carried for nine months, the one she brought into this world with such high hopes.’

’To be treated like this by her now... how could her grandmother not be utterly disheartened?’

Chloe Reed closed her eyes for a moment. ”I’ll make her apologize to you.”

Her grandmother just gave a faint smile, saying nothing more.

”...”

「The next day.」

Chloe Reed was busy until noon, when she received a call from Charles Reed. ”I brought your mother to see your grandmother, but we can’t get in.”

”I’ll be right there,” Chloe Reed said coolly.

She hung up, said a quick word to Kyle Coleman, and left for the hospital.

When she reached the door to the hospital room, she saw Charles Reed and Autumn Linton standing there.

Her gaze landed squarely on Autumn Linton.

Though it had only been a few days, Autumn Linton had grown thin and haggard, losing the radiant glow she usually wore as a society wife.

Chloe Reed’s expression was impassive. She walked over and asked Charles Reed directly, ”Are you here to apologize to Grandma?”

Autumn Linton looked at her, her eyes wavering. ”Chloe...”

Charles Reed nodded. ”Yes. Your mother knows she was wrong, so she came specifically to apologize to your grandmother.”

”Then go ahead.”

Ignoring Autumn Linton, Chloe Reed pushed the door open.

The caregivers were watching television with her grandmother. When Chloe Reed entered, she asked them to step out.

The door closed, and she stood aside, watching them with indifferent eyes.

Charles Reed’s face was full of apology. ”Mom, I didn’t know about what happened. If I had, I would have stopped her. She... she’s not well, that’s why she did it. Please, don’t hold it against her, okay?”

The old woman lay in her bed, her expression placid.

But Chloe Reed sneered. ”Stop trying to shift the blame. This shameless act of yours is disgusting.”

Charles Reed’s brow furrowed. He shot her a look, wanting desperately to curse her out, but with the Reed Group being targeted so relentlessly, he could only bite his tongue.

He turned to Autumn Linton beside him. ”Say something.”

Autumn Linton flinched, then finally looked at the old woman. Her lips trembled as she spoke. ”Mom... I know I was wrong...”

The old woman finally spoke. ”You took me and used me to threaten Chloe. What did you want?”

Autumn Linton’s face grew even paler. ”Mom... I never meant to hurt you. I just wanted to get back what belongs to Aunt Bowman. She saved my life. If it weren’t for her, I would have died...”

When she was a teenager, she had fallen into a river. Unable to swim, she was drowning when Aunt Bowman suddenly appeared and saved her. From that day on, her opinion of the woman changed, and she grew closer to her.

Hearing this, the old woman gave a sudden, sharp laugh. ”So that’s the reason. I was wondering why you were always so good to her. Strictly speaking, she was the other woman, wasn’t she?”

Autumn Linton’s hands clenched into fists. ”Mom, you can’t say that about Aunt Bowman! She never wanted to come between you and Dad. She just wanted to watch from a distance, content as long as Dad was happy.”
