The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

’The mother-in-law had it all figured out,’ she thought. ’Even if she doesn’t get pregnant, we’ll get compensation—double compensation, at that. That’s forty yuan!’

The young wife didn’t say a word, still crying.

The mother-in-law immediately started coaxing her, using the gentlest tone she had ever used in her life.

Finally, the young wife seemed to have been persuaded and took out all the medicine.

”These are all powders you mix with water. It’s a three-month course. The first month is to regulate the body, the second is to maintain its condition, and in the final month, you can start trying to get pregnant.”

The mother-in-law frowned. ”That long?”

Hearing this, the young wife’s expression soured as well. ”Exactly. It’s so long, I don’t want to drink it at all.”

’How could she not drink it?’

’This was all money.’

The mother-in-law, who was about to say something else, immediately shut her mouth. Instead, she coaxed her daughter-in-law, saying it wasn’t that long—just three months, and she’d be pregnant in three months.

Finally, at her mother-in-law’s insistence, the young wife reluctantly agreed.

The mother-in-law was overjoyed. The matter was settled, she didn’t have to spend her own money, and she didn’t even have to be the bad guy. ’Her daughter-in-law’s mother is so considerate,’ she thought. ’To help my daughter-in-law get pregnant... I’ll have to be nicer to her from now on.’

The young wife did as Gu Jiaojiao instructed. The mother-in-law was no longer anxious and dutifully had her drink the medicine. When she occasionally asked, the young wife would say it was best to start trying to get pregnant after two months, which left the mother-in-law speechless.

As for the powders, they smelled absolutely awful, but they were surprisingly delicious to drink.

Gu Jiaojiao had intentionally added an herb that had a pungent smell but was actually tasteless.

This made the mother-in-law even more convinced. ’Secret remedies! It’s all about being potent.’

’The worse it tastes, the more effective it is.’

「A few more days passed, and it was February.」

The young wife had been drinking the medicine for about ten days. She started to worry that she wouldn’t get pregnant within three months and couldn’t help but go find Gu Jiaojiao.

After listening, Gu Jiaojiao thought it was simple. ”By the third month, your mother-in-law won’t even want you to be pregnant anymore.”

The young wife was baffled. ”Why?”

”Because she can’t even earn twenty yuan in a whole year. If you don’t get pregnant, you’ll get twenty yuan directly. Do you think your mother-in-law wants a child or money?”

She could always have a child later, but once the money was gone, it was gone for good.

Besides, if she really couldn’t conceive, her mother-in-law would surely be happy enough with the money.

The young wife was conflicted. ”But if I don’t get pregnant, where will I get the money?”

”You can work for me, and I’ll pay you.”

”Huh?”

’Work for her, and she’ll pay me?’

The young wife was completely stunned.

Gu Jiaojiao didn’t explain much. ”You’ll find out when the time comes. Just do as I say, and I guarantee your mother-in-law will happily let you come help me.”

The young wife went back in a daze, but she still felt a little nervous.

「Another half-month passed, and school started.」

When Leng Yuan parted with his wife in the morning, he was still a bit reluctant to leave her.

But just as he finished organizing his textbooks, the principal walked into the office, pulling his little wife along with him. The principal earnestly introduced her to everyone: ”Let me introduce a new colleague. This is the new teaching assistant the school has hired. Let’s give her a warm welcome.”

Gu Jiaojiao looked at her man and gave him a mischievous wink.

Leng Yuan clapped meaningfully.

’Very good,’ he thought. ’My wife really knows how to keep a secret.’

Gu Jiaojiao was also very composed. She introduced herself, explaining that a teaching assistant was basically a general helper, going wherever they were needed.

If a teacher was absent, she would substitute for the class. If the teacher was present, she would help maintain discipline. She would also work part-time in the cafeteria.

In short, she juggled multiple roles.

The principal was also very pleased.

Actually, there had only been one teaching position available, but someone else had taken it. However, Gu Jiaojiao’s exam paper was so well-written that the principal repeatedly petitioned his superiors until they created an additional teaching assistant position for her.

”Teacher Gu, please find a seat!”

There were only two empty seats in the entire office: one by the door, and the other across from Leng Yuan.

Neither was a great spot.
