The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Leng Yuan got Gu Jiaojiao settled, making sure his wife could safely watch the fishing from the side, before turning to Chen JianShe. ”Are the nets down?”

Chen JianShe nodded.

”They are, but there’s no action.”

”The fish in this river are like they’re possessed or something. They won’t go anywhere near the nets.”

He had cast his fishing nets, but the fish wouldn’t swim into them at all. They just swam back and forth along the edges, sometimes even slapping the side of the net with their tails.

Chen JianShe was so mad he wanted to jump right in and catch the fish with his bare hands.

But in the dead of winter, Chen JianShe’s sanity prevailed, and he didn’t actually jump in. Still, he was seething with pent-up frustration.

He swore he would cast a few more nets today and catch some fish to satisfy his craving, no matter what.

As soon as he thought of it, Chen JianShe’s mind drifted to the squirrel-shaped mandarin fish Gu Jiaojiao had made. The flavor was absolutely out of this world, so fragrant his tongue felt like it wasn’t even his own.

”Brother, if we catch any fish today, I’ll give you a few.”

’Then I can just tag along for a meal.’

’It doesn’t matter if it’s squirrel-shaped fish or not. As long as his sister-in-law makes it, it’s guaranteed to be delicious.’

Chen JianShe said this while wiping away his drool.

Leng Yuan couldn’t be bothered to look at his pathetic display and turned to pull a homemade fishing rod from a burlap sack.

It was a retractable rod. Several hidden clasps were fixed to it, allowing the line to be secured and moved around. The handle featured a wooden grip and a wheel to spool the line. Once a hook was attached, it became a fully functional retractable fishing rod.

The line had been specially bought, but Leng Yuan had crafted all the other parts from wood himself.

In the summer, people usually used large nets or fish traps. In the winter, the openings in the ice were smaller, so one could only use small nets or scoop fish out with a net on a pole.

This fishing rod of Leng Yuan’s was his own invention, and he hadn’t used it yet.

When he brought the thing out, Chen JianShe was stunned. After a few glances, he became a little skeptical.

”Is that a fishing rod? Brother Leng, did you make it yourself?”

Chen JianShe had heard of such things but never seen one. After all, at a time when just getting enough to eat was a problem, who would spend money on a fishing rod to go fishing?

”Mhm.”

Leng Yuan remained cool and aloof. He was only talkative in front of Gu Jiaojiao; outside, he was almost always silent and reserved.

Watching from the side, Gu Jiaojiao’s face was a picture of shock.

’The fishing rod my man made is even retractable!’

’This is too amazing.’

Gu Jiaojiao’s eyes nearly started to sparkle. ’How is my man so capable and creative? A boss truly is a boss. If he were in my era, he could probably succeed at anything he put his mind to.’

In the distance.

Sun Yeshu stared in Gu Jiaojiao’s direction, her expression dark and sullen.

Before Gu Jiaojiao arrived, she had been the center of attention, with everyone’s subtle glances focused on her.

Now Gu Jiaojiao was here.

And just like that, all the attention that had been hers was gone.

Sun Yeshu was furious.

’That Gu Jiaojiao really is a vixen, seducing men everywhere she goes.’

’And these men! They have no taste at all. What’s so good to look at about a married woman?’

Fuming, Sun Yeshu turned her head, only to see her own second brother, Sun Yecheng, staring blankly in Gu Jiaojiao’s direction, completely lost in thought.

A burst of anger flared up inside her. She reached out and viciously pinched her second brother Sun Yecheng’s arm.

”Second Brother, what are you looking at!”

She had come to fish with her second brother. He was at home in the water, an expert at netting and catching fish. In the summer, he could come to the river for a swim and catch fish with his bare hands to take home.

He was an even better fisherman. In just half an hour, he had already pulled up two large fish. Everyone around admired his skill, and many people even came up to ask for his techniques. This gave her a bit of confidence.

’Even if I’m not as pretty as Gu Jiaojiao, my second brother is more capable than Leng Yuan.’

But the moment she turned around, she saw her brother staring at Gu Jiaojiao. How could she possibly tolerate that?
