The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Xu Chongshan was in the courtyard, sharpening a sickle.

He had gone up the mountain with Leng Yuan the day before, and when he saw a wild pheasant, he’d thrown his sickle at it.

The pheasant must have been scared stiff, as it froze on the spot. His sickle ended up smashing against a nearby rock.

It had left a nasty chip in the blade, and now he was trying to grind it out.

When Yun Hao reached the entrance to Village Chief Xu’s home and saw the main gate standing open, a mocking glint appeared in his eyes.

He paused for a moment before stepping into the courtyard.

Hearing the sound, Xu Chongshan turned his head and saw Yun Hao enter.

His dad had told him that morning that Yun Hao would be coming over today.

Xu Chongshan didn’t know why, but upon seeing Yun Hao, he quickly called out, ”Dad, Yun Hao’s here!”

Then, he turned to Yun Hao.

”Just wait a minute. My dad will be right out. You can tell him whatever it is you’ve come for.”

His father had previously mentioned that he’d agreed to the marriage between Yun Hao and Xu Wenwan.

Thinking that this man would soon be his brother-in-law, Xu Chongshan’s tone softened considerably.

A sneer formed on Yun Hao’s face.

’These members of the Xu Family are such hypocrites,’ he thought. ’They’re the ones who told me to come, and now they’re putting on this act.’

”Xu Chongshan, I never realized you were such a good actor.”

Xu Chongshan was stunned for a second. When he recovered, his expression darkened. ”What’s that supposed to mean?”

Yun Hao scoffed.

”I’m here to propose marriage.”

Xu Chongshan: ...

’So you’re here to propose marriage. What’s with the attitude? It’s not like you’re proposing to me. Is this guy crazy?’

’No wonder he and Xu Wenwan are a match. They’re both completely nuts.’

He instantly regretted being so polite to him.

With that thought, Xu Chongshan also scoffed, then returned to sharpening his sickle, ignoring Yun Hao completely.

Yun Hao: ...

’But I’m here to propose marriage!’

’It was the Xu Family who forced me to marry Xu Wenwan in the first place.’

’I finally gave in and did exactly what they wanted, and now they dare to treat me like this?’

In that instant, Yun Hao’s anger flared.

”Xu Chongshan, what is the meaning of this? Your family told me to come propose, and now you’re giving me this attitude? If you’re not happy with this marriage, then...”

He hadn’t even finished the words ”forget it,”

when Xu Chongshan stood up, sickle in hand.

He wasn’t wearing his padded winter jacket since he’d been sharpening the sickle, leaving both of his arms bare.

The man was already tall and imposing, and now, standing with the sickle in hand, the muscles on his forearms bulged. He was an intimidating sight.

Yun Hao took a step back, swallowing hard.

Xu Chongshan sneered. ”You say you’re here to propose marriage, but you came empty-handed. I wonder where that’s considered proper etiquette.”

”I’ve heard that your family background is quite impressive, Educated Youth Yun. Don’t tell me this is how you city folk do things?”

”If not, then this is just ridiculous. You bring nothing, so how am I supposed to know you’re here to propose? Yet you accuse me of putting on an act. You show up for a marriage proposal, deliberately empty-handed—are you trying to humiliate our Xu Family?”

”So who’s really pretending here? You, who’s acting like you don’t know the rules, or me?”

Xu Chongshan couldn’t be bothered to get involved in Xu Wenwan’s affairs, which was the only reason he had ignored Yun Hao.

But this guy had to push his luck. Did he really think Xu Chongshan wouldn’t teach him a lesson?

Yun Hao was left speechless by the tirade.

Of course, he knew it was improper to show up for a marriage proposal empty-handed. But he didn’t want to marry Xu Wenwan in the first place; he was being forced. If the Xu Family rejected his proposal because of this, it would be the best possible outcome.

But now that it had been called out so bluntly, the situation had turned ugly.

Yun Hao’s face darkened, and he was just about to argue back,

when Village Chief Xu pushed aside the door curtain and stepped out.

”What’s all this shouting? Both of you, get inside and talk.”

Yun Hao shot Xu Chongshan a look, then strode directly into the house.

Xu Chongshan: ...
