The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Chapter 57: Chapter 55: Knowing a Little Medicine

Gu Jiaojiao felt a little embarrassed by the praise.

She hadn’t really done much.

Leng Yuan had drawn the blueprints, and he had been the one to build it.

But she couldn’t say that, so she could only accept the compliments with a smile.

After they finished praising Gu Jiaojiao, the conversation turned to the thresher she had supposedly made, and then to the other teams that had come to borrow the machines.

Only then did Gu Jiaojiao learn what had happened next.

Just as Chen Beiguo was taking Li Dashan to get the machines, two more team leaders had shown up, also clamoring to borrow one. Li Dashan had originally planned to take them all, but the other leaders wouldn’t allow it. In the end, to placate everyone, each team left with one machine.

The ones who arrived later took the smaller one.

Anyone who came after that left with nothing at all.

Speaking of which, this was a great source of pride for their Qingshan Team. A treasure that other teams were fighting over belonged to them, so of course, they were proud.

As they spoke, they heaped more praise on Gu Jiaojiao.

Gu Jiaojiao...

’I just wanted to hear some gossip, but everyone is being way too kind!’

Qingshan Team was certainly worthy of its name. The green mountains stretched for dozens, even hundreds of miles. Not only were there wild vegetables and bamboo shoots on the mountains, but there were also plenty of medicinal herbs.

This made Gu Jiaojiao ecstatic.

Medicinal herbs were something she was very fond of. Whenever Gu Jiaojiao saw any along the path, she would pick them.

Aunt Zhao, who was beside her, glanced at Gu Jiaojiao’s back basket. She saw many strange-looking things and couldn’t help but ask curiously, ”Jiaojiao, what are you picking all these weeds for?”

Hearing this, Gu Jiaojiao smiled and explained, ”Auntie, these are all medicinal herbs. They’ll be very useful once I take them back.”

When Aunt Zhao heard her say this, she couldn’t help but ask, ”Actually, I’ve been meaning to ask you for a while. Do you know medicine?”

When Wang Xiuhua came back, she had mentioned that Gu Jiaojiao took her pulse and that her diagnosis was the same as the doctor’s. But since it seemed Gu Jiaojiao didn’t want to publicize it, Aunt Zhao hadn’t asked until now.

Gu Jiaojiao found it amusing when she saw Aunt Zhao deliberately look left and right before asking in a hushed voice.

”I actually just know a little about wellness, so I can spot some issues. I’ve never formally studied it.”

Aunt Zhao thought Gu Jiaojiao was truly incredible. Not only could she build a thresher, but she also knew about these things. It was amazing.

”You’re really amazing.”

Aunt Zhao gave her a thumbs-up.

Gu Jiaojiao had been praised so many times now that she was quite used to it. She simply got back to digging for wild vegetables and herbs.

Without realizing it, she had wandered quite far and discovered a patch of bamboo shoots. Her eyes lit up at the sight.

’This is good stuff. I should pick a lot. I can pickle them when I get back, and they’ll last all winter.’

This was deep in the north, where winters were especially cold, with temperatures dropping to minus twenty degrees Celsius. This meant that besides radishes, cabbages, and dried string beans, there weren’t many other vegetables in the winter.

However, people here would pickle cabbage for the winter. Gu Jiaojiao also liked pickled cabbage; it could be stewed with meat or used as a filling for dumplings. The thought of pickled cabbage dumplings made her mouth water.

Bamboo shoots were quite bulky, and before long, Gu Jiaojiao’s basket was full.

She let Aunt Zhao know she was heading back, then carried her basket home. After dropping the things in the courtyard, she rushed back up the mountain.

Just like that, Gu Jiaojiao made three or four trips in half a day.

Looking at the medicinal herbs in the courtyard, Gu Jiaojiao felt this was too inefficient.

As she thought about this, she had an idea.

The next time she went up the mountain, she grabbed a large burlap sack from the woodshed—the extra-large kind that could probably hold two hundred pounds of grain.

Besides the sack, she also took a rope and a sickle that were hanging on the wall.
