The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Chapter 24: Chapter 22: Household Expenses

”Your money is yours. What I’m giving you is for household expenses. If we need anything at home, just buy it. If you don’t have the right ration coupons, just let me know.”

With that, Leng Yuan still stuffed the twenty yuan into Gu Jiaojiao’s hands.

Hearing the words ”household expenses,” Gu Jiaojiao’s eyes sparkled. ’He must be planning to build a proper life with me,’ she thought. ’He’s already letting me handle the daily budget!’

Beaming, she accepted the twenty yuan and didn’t forget to promise Leng Yuan, ”Don’t worry, I won’t spend this recklessly.”

Leng Yuan gave a casual nod, clearly not believing her. After all, back at the educated youth station, Gu Jiaojiao had always eaten and used the best, spending over ten yuan in just half a month. ’This is going to be stressful,’ Leng Yuan thought.

After eating and resting for a while, Leng Yuan went to work.

Gu Jiaojiao saw Leng Yuan out.

Just then, Chen JianShe walked over. Seeing Leng Yuan, he greeted him happily, ”Brother Leng, let’s go to work together—”

Before he could finish, he saw Gu Jiaojiao standing in the doorway, and his tongue instantly got tied. ”Gu, Gu... Sister-in-law, hello.”

Gu Jiaojiao nodded at Chen JianShe. ”Hello.”

Chen JianShe looked as if he’d seen a ghost.

When Gu Jiaojiao first came to the village, Chen JianShe had gone to see her and had been completely stunned. He had never seen such a beautiful girl in his entire life.

Back then, it wasn’t just him; the entire village had stared, their eyes wide. But the Gu Jiaojiao of that time held her chin high and looked down her nose at everyone, an image that was still fresh in Chen JianShe’s mind.

After that, one incident after another had left Chen JianShe with a poor impression of Gu Jiaojiao.

’But this smiling, gentle, virtuous Gu Jiaojiao before him, the one who seemed to practically glow... is she really the same person I saw back then?’

”Time to go.”

Seeing Chen JianShe gawking, Leng Yuan reminded him, his expression cold.

Chen JianShe immediately snapped out of it and hurried to catch up with Leng Yuan, explaining as he went, ”Brother Leng, it’s not what you think! I don’t have any improper thoughts about Sister-in-law. I was just really surprised.”

”So, Sister-in-law is really planning to settle down with you?”

But then he thought, ’With Brother Leng’s skills, winning over a woman would be easy,’ and he instantly felt a surge of pride.

”You’re amazing, Brother Leng. Even a city swan like her couldn’t resist your charm. As long as she’s willing to settle down with you, your future is set.”

Others might not know, but as Brother Leng’s close friend, he was well aware of Leng Yuan’s capabilities.

Leng Yuan taught at the school, making twenty-five yuan a month. He also wrote articles every month, which earned him another thirty yuan. On top of that, he occasionally hunted in the mountains for some extra income.

With Brother Leng’s skills, supporting one wife was nothing. He could easily support three or even five.

Even a pampered young lady from the city was someone he could easily afford to support.

Chen JianShe felt nothing but admiration for Leng Yuan’s skills, without a shred of jealousy. He himself had never liked studying; he’d get sleepy the moment a teacher started a lecture. The fact that Brother Leng could make a living from it was truly incredible in his eyes.

And his hunting skills? Chen JianShe was in complete awe. He had never once seen Brother Leng come down from the mountains empty-handed.

Whenever Brother Leng felt like it, he could bring meat back from the mountains.

These days, most people only got a taste of meat during the New Year, but for Brother Leng, eating meat once a month was no problem at all.

Lost in these thoughts, he couldn’t help but smack his lips. He leaned in closer to Leng Yuan and asked, ”Brother Leng, are we going into the mountains after Qiushou? My taste buds are dying for some real flavor.”

Qiushou was exhausting work. Hauling several thousand jin of corn a day was physically draining. He didn’t have Brother Leng’s skill to earn twelve work points, but even earning ten was exhausting. He felt completely wiped out every single day.

Leng Yuan had also been planning to go into the mountains after Qiushou, so he nodded.

When Chen JianShe saw Leng Yuan nod, the thought of eating meat after Qiushou immediately filled him with a new surge of energy.
