Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

On the twenty-first, the five of them went to the county to register, with Red Army driving them there.

They were already in their twenties, and it was quite uncomfortable for three people to squeeze in the back. But right now, they didn’t care about that. Their hearts were just full of excitement.

”Second Brother, Third Brother, we’ve decided to apply to universities in the Capital, to be near Master Wei and Teacher Jiang.”

Red Army also nodded, ”Me too. I definitely want to go to the Capital.”

Wang Menglin, sitting in the passenger seat, laughed, ”Then you all still need to work harder. There are many universities in the Capital, but they definitely have the highest scores. You need to keep working hard.”

”Sister-in-law, where are you applying?”

”Me? The school closest to home.”

”Third Brother, how about you?” Hongling asked Changhe.

”Me? I want to go to the Medical Institute.”

They all knew this and didn’t find it surprising. Changhe really had a talent for medicine.

They parked the car at the transport team; otherwise, it would be too conspicuous, and none of them were the type to show off.

Then the five of them went to the registration place. There were really too many people here, though they arrived quite early. But there were still dozens of people lined up in front.

Each person held their documents, patiently waiting.

Most of the people standing in line here were educated youth. They all wanted to seize this opportunity to return to the city.

These years in the countryside made them realize how foolish they were back then, especially those who volunteered. Now, they’re deeply regretful.

The queue behind them grew longer. Although there were many people, familiar faces spoke in hushed tones, so it wasn’t too chaotic.

All four of them stood about one meter seventy-five tall—not quite out of place here, but they were noticeable.

They attracted a lot of attention, but the four of them kept their eyes straight ahead and didn’t talk among themselves. This way, no one approached them.

The progress was quite fast. After about an hour, it was their turn.

Soon, they successfully registered and learned that the exam was one month away. They noted down the exam date and found out they needed to come check the test site and the test numbers in ten days.

Only then did Red Army understand why those registered before looked so dejected.

He felt very grateful; without Teacher Jiang, they would be the same.

Thinking about how they had to pick up high school textbooks in a month seemed impossible.

Even if they didn’t sleep, it was still impossible. Red Army suddenly felt more confident.

The five of them finally squeezed out of there. Just now, the four brothers had protected their sister-in-law in the middle.

”Should we call Teacher Jiang?” Hongling asked.

”Yes, let’s tell her we’ve registered and put her at ease.”

Wang Menglin also wanted to call home to check on her cousins.

”Let’s go to the transport team to make the call. It’s easier to talk this way.” It wasn’t to save money or take advantage.

Jin Erlin knew the five of them went to register, seeing them return. ”How did it go?”

”Uncle Jin, we all successfully registered. We’ll check on the test site and test numbers in ten days.”

Jin Erlin finally smiled, ”You’re going to make it.”

”Uncle Jin, we want to make a call.”

”No problem. I’ll treat you to lunch.”

The four young men all shook their heads. Wang Menglin also refused, ”Let’s head back. Our family is concerned about us.”

This was a big deal. The villagers knew they came to register and nervously asked.

”Sister-in-law, you go first.”

Wang Menglin didn’t hold back; the call was answered by Mr. Tao.

”Grandfather, did my cousin and his wife register?”

”Yes, they registered yesterday. How about you?”

”I registered today. Our exam is on the twenty-first of next month.”

”It’s the same here.”

”Grandfather, are you doing well?”

”I’m fine, don’t worry. And you? Will you stay here in the future?”

”Grandfather, I want to stay here.”

”Alright, it’s your decision.”

Wang Menglin asked about the family situation before reluctantly hanging up.

Red Army dialed the Capital’s number, and Jiang Xinyu answered.

”Teacher Jiang.”

”Red Army, how did it go? Did you register?”

”Teacher Jiang, all five of us successfully registered. What about my second brother and others?”

”They registered yesterday and succeeded.”

”Is Feifei able too?”

”Yes, she can.”

Red Army laughed at that.

”You all need to keep a regular schedule. We’ve gone through the review several times; barring surprises, you won’t have problems. Especially keep calm, write your name as soon as the test paper is handed out, and if it requires a test number, make sure it’s clearly written.

Also, bring enough pens and scratch paper; buy blank paper in bulk from the supply and marketing cooperative.

If you encounter problems during the exam, don’t panic or waste time there; check later to think through what you don’t know.”

All of them crowded around, listening to Jiang Xinyu’s advice.

They realized they hadn’t considered these things.

Finally, Jiang Xinyu reminded them, ”Don’t exhaust yourselves over this month. Adjust your mindset. Think about how you’re already far ahead of others.”

”Okay, we’ve understood.”

”Make sure to buy blank paper later—fifty sheets each. Prepare your pens and ink. Bring back the fountain pens and rulers I gave you, and take ink into the exam room.”

The five felt grateful; without her reminders, they wouldn’t know, saving them much trouble.

”Remember, the first thing is to write your name exactly as required when the test paper is handed out.

I’ve seen exams where failing to write your name voids your scores.”

Jiang Xinyu reiterated several times before hanging up.

Han Xiangjun laughed from the side, ”Xiao Jiang, you’re really suited to be a teacher.”

Jiang Xinyu smiled, ”They haven’t experienced exams before, so I need to remind them more.”

Next, a few discussed plastic factory matters.

Red Army and the others obediently went to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy blank paper, two bottles of ink each, and also bought a cheap fountain pen.

Originally, each of them had one pen; Teacher Jiang had given each a good pen, and they already had one, so they were sufficiently prepared.

Back home, they stuck to their usual routine, and still went out to exercise every morning.

Qu Xiaoli busily arranged for two friends with her to make new cotton clothes and shoes for the five of them.

The village knew they were going to take the university exams, and everyone believed all five would definitely pass.

Shuxin and his brothers regretted, Why didn’t they study well? Seeing their cousins taking the exams, they were truly envious.
