Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Lv Beiguang returned and saw the blankets drying on the rope, startled for a moment. Having been through it himself, how could he not think in that direction?

He entered the house somewhat worried.

The smell of meat reached his nose, causing his face to relax a bit. His daughter’s cooking really had improved a lot. She had truly learned quite a bit from Xinyu.

”Dad, you’re back. Wash up and have some hot water. We’ll be eating soon.”

Jing Chu greeted him with a smile.

”Mm, the meat my daughter is cooking smells so good.”

”Of course, I specially learned from Aunt Jiang.”

”Where’s your brother?”

”He’s in the room with his wife.”

”Jing Chu, what have you all been doing today?”

”We went to Aunt Jiang’s house in the morning to clean. Came home for lunch, and afterwards I went back to Aunt Jiang’s to watch the fire and check for whatever she was missing.

Then I went to the supply and marketing cooperative to find Aunt She, because Aunt Jiang didn’t have enough bedding.”

”Mm, what about your brother?”

”I had him keep his wife company.”

Lv Beiguang felt unsettled inside, hoping that what he feared wouldn’t be the outcome.

But how to explain the blankets outside?

He held back his anger, but didn’t go into the room. After all, his son and daughter-in-law were inside.

If it truly had happened, he’d have to call Li Yunqiao again tomorrow.

What’s going on here? He had just called today, and the girl’s parents declined, yet in the afternoon they were together.

Lv Beiguang felt really stressed; these children were really infuriating.

Guodong was sitting on the bed with Li Xue. No matter how he looked, he couldn’t get enough; this was his wife, he couldn’t wait to hold her in his arms all the time.

”Guodong, go help Jing Chu.”

”No need, the food is already being prepared. Jing Chu can handle the cooking.”

”Guodong, I seem to hear Dad is back.”

”It’s okay. You’re just fine sitting on the bed. Today we’ll eat on the bed.”

”No, I should get down. I feel embarrassed like this.”

”Xue, be good. I saw you’re injured down there; you just sit on the bed properly.”

Finally, Li Xue obediently sat on the bed without moving.

Guodong came out and saw his father looking at him sternly.

”Dad, did you call Xue’s father?”

Seeing his son’s appearance, Lv Beiguang’s suspicion deepened.

He restrained his anger, ”I did, but her family didn’t agree, saying you’re both still too young.”

”Dad, I’ll call Li Xue’s father tomorrow.

Dad, I want to have a wedding ceremony at home.”

Lv Beiguang was sure of it now. He picked up a stick and began to hit Guodong.

He had never hit the kids before, this was the first time.

Jing Chu was terrified and quickly hugged her father’s waist, ”Dad, don’t be angry.”

Lv Beiguang was really infuriated, how could he do something so irresponsible?

Li Xue heard the commotion outside and also hurried out, seeing her future father-in-law hitting her husband.

”Dad.”

Li Xue stepped in front of Guodong, ”Dad, don’t be angry, it’s all my fault.”

She knew exactly why Lv Beiguang was angry, so she quickly admitted the mistake.

Jing Chu was still confused but kept holding her father’s waist stubbornly.

”Dad, don’t be mad at my brother. Let him apologize.”

Lv Beiguang pointed the stick at Guodong furiously, ”How could you not take care of her? She’s the person you’ll spend your life with. You should cherish her.”

Li Xue was deeply moved by these words. Tears rolled down her cheeks, ”Dad, it was my choice. Truly, it was my choice.”

Finally realizing the situation, Guodong, having never been beaten before, felt bewildered.

Looking at his father’s disappointed eyes, he hastily hugged Li Xue in front of him, ”Dad, it’s my fault. I didn’t control myself. Dad, don’t be angry, I’ll definitely treat Xue well for life.”

Jing Chu was puzzled, what was going on? She was a mature girl, of course she didn’t understand these things.

”Dad, don’t be angry at my brother. My sister-in-law and he are doing well.”

Interrupted by his daughter’s awkward interjection, Lv Beiguang truly had no way out, unwilling to discuss this in front of her.

He dropped the stick. ”Lv Guodong, I’m telling you, if you ever wrong Li Xue, you won’t have a father, I won’t have you as a son.”

”Dad, I absolutely won’t let that happen. Rest assured, I will definitely treat Xue’er well.”

Li Xue, in Guodong’s arms, listened to the father-son talk, feeling deeply moved. Such an understanding father-in-law didn’t belittle her because of this incident, but instead supported her like her own father.

”Dad, I believe in Guodong, I trust him.”

Lv Beiguang sighed and patted his daughter’s hand on his waist.

”Tomorrow you two will go with me to call her family.” It was inconvenient to talk about it outside.

Just refused today, tomorrow he’d have to go back and talk again.

”Dad, you’re not angry anymore, right? Don’t worry, my brother treats my sister-in-law well.”

Lv Beiguang patted his daughter’s shoulder, ”I’m not angry anymore. Let’s eat.”

The father and daughter started getting busy, while Li Xue looked worryingly at Guodong’s hand, now red and swollen from the beating, showing that her father-in-law was really angry.

Guodong smiled at Li Xue, ”It’s okay. It doesn’t hurt, I was just stunned from the beating. I’ve never actually been hit.”

The four of them sat on the bed to eat, it felt so warm.

Pork stewed with vermicelli, scrambled eggs, cabbage stewed with tofu.

”Xue’er, eat more. Is there anything you want? I’ll go find it for you.”

”Dad, this is already great. I love all of these.”

”Okay, don’t hesitate to tell Jing Chu the same if you want anything.”

”Got it Dad, don’t be angry.”

”Alright, I’m not angry anymore. You two must take good care of each other.

If in the future Guodong has any problems, you come to me.”

”Mm, I will definitely find Dad to back me up.”

Jing Chu glancing at her brother who smiled at their father, was at a loss for words; this fool angered their father. Getting beaten was well-deserved too.

After dinner, the family sat together chatting.

”Xue’er, after the call tomorrow, I’ll start preparing for your wedding, our family doesn’t have anyone else, just a few of my friends. Don’t mind.”

”Dad, why would I mind? Just having a meal together with friends, letting them recognize me, and I recognize the uncles and aunts.”

Lv Beiguang nodded with satisfaction, Li Xue was indeed a sensible girl.

He glared at his son again. But since things were already like this, he’d have to arrange the wedding for his son.

At night, father and son lay on the bed, and Lv Beiguang lectured Guodong.

”Doing this in your father-in-law’s eyes shows disrespect to Xue’er.”

”Dad, I really couldn’t hold back. Tomorrow, I’ll admit the mistake to him face-to-face.”
