Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”Okay.” Doctor Liu must have seen carrots before and knew they are good for the body.

These people who were sent down here in Li Family Village seem to have the intention of retiring; they all found something they enjoyed doing. The villagers didn’t treat them specially, which is probably their favorite lifestyle.

The kids are back too, bringing back some really small ones, without the habit of waste.

Jiang Xinyu picked some good ones for Jianbin to deliver to Du Fengying. They’ve already given them a bag of good ones; these slightly damaged ones are for immediate family use.

Liu Xuefa and Wu Jiucheng pushed a cart over together, and Jiang Xinyu gave them a bag, charging only two yuan.

”Next year, you can grow them yourselves. When spring comes, I’ll give you seeds.”

”That would be great; these are good things.”

”Yeah, they’re good for elders and kids.”

The Wei Family didn’t go to get food today; they planned to go tomorrow. One day was spent picking all the vegetables from their own plots.

Li Yungui’s house was truly lively, as a few boys surrounded Guodong and Red Army, asking about the situation by the seaside.

”We’ve been at the seaside often these past days, eating fresh seafood at the locals’ homes every day.”

The more they talked like this, the more Cheng Lin wanted some.

”Good brother, take me next time, I want to try it too.”

”I want to go too.”

”School is about to start soon, so we won’t be going this year.

But Brother-in-law brought back a lot of dried goods, the same ones we had in the city prepared by Teacher Jiang. Let Sister and Teacher Jiang learn how to cook them.”

This really whetted the appetite of the two younger siblings.

Cheng Lin ran to Li Xue’s side. ”Sis, could you go with Teacher Jiang tomorrow to learn how to make what’s called Haidilao sauce? Brother Hongjun said Brother-in-law brought back the ingredients.

Learn how to make it for us to eat.”

”You two only know how to eat. No problem; I’ll ask Teacher Jiang. It should be pretty simple, probably just about the seasoning?”

”Sis, you must learn it quickly; how about asking tonight and making it for Big Brother tomorrow morning?”

Li Xue laughed; the younger ones wanted to eat and were using Big Brother as an excuse.

But they were right, making it for Big Brother tomorrow morning.

Guodong was helping roll dough on the side. ”You two, soak a handful of all the dried goods; otherwise, you won’t be able to eat them tomorrow morning.”

”Brother-in-law, do you know how to make it?”

Guodong smiled and shook his head. ”I don’t know. Actually, what your sister said is true; it’s quite simple, just about the seasoning.”

The two youngsters ran off to prepare with smiles.

Qu Xiaoli smiled and shook her head. ”These two kids just focus on eating, only showing interest in food.”

”Mom, there’s nothing wrong with that; eating well is a blessing.”

Guodong’s speed in rolling out dough was decent, able to keep up with Niang San making dumplings.

Wang Menglin watched the sweet interaction between the couple and the happy expression on her sister-in-law’s face. She felt envious, as being with someone you love is truly different.

Dinner was even more lively at night; though Qu Xiaoli only mixed spring onions with pickles, the family gathered together, making the meal feel Savoury and delightful.

Li Xue didn’t clean up; she went with Guodong to learn cooking. Li Manjiang and his wife were sent back to rest.

When Guodong and Li Xue returned home, dinner had already been finished.

Jiang Xinyu heard Li Xue’s request and found her some dried chilies and Sichuan peppercorns.

She explained the steps, and Li Xue found it truly very simple.

Once they learned, Guodong dragged Li Xue back to his room.

Young men and women are always drawn to each other, so Guodong’s actions went a little overboard.

Li Xue really missed him, so she didn’t stop him this time.

Men have an innate instinct; when it came to the last step, Guodong stopped, gritting his teeth.

But he reluctantly got up, embracing Li Xue. ”I’ll start building a house in the spring; shall we get married in the fall?”

Li Xue’s face turned shyly red, listening to Guodong’s words.

”We’re not of age yet.”

”Yes, we’re not old enough. I really wish time would pass quicker.”

Li Xue shyly leaned into Guodong’s embrace. She actually wanted to suggest they could hold a ceremony, and then get the certificate once they’re of age.

But as a girl, she felt embarrassed to say it out loud.

They spent over an hour being affectionate before Guodong reluctantly stood up to escort Li Xue home.

After the food was distributed the next day, the pesticide factory moved. Red Army and Jiushang drove a tractor to bring the food for the fifty-one people in the village to the township’s grain warehouse to exchange them for food tickets.

Although the two factories didn’t have much to move, it couldn’t be finished in a day.

So that evening, all fifty-one people received their food tickets; they would be consuming commodity grain in the city from now on.

Of course, Shuzhi exchanged all his grain for food tickets; others only exchanged enough for thirty pounds, enough for a month’s consumption.

Red Army was happy that everyone didn’t go up the mountain today; what he wanted most now was to go up the mountain. He kept thinking about wild boars, knowing the chances of encountering one were almost zero, but he could dream about it.

Xi and the others would be going to the city tomorrow. So tonight, the five of them were making dumplings.

The two young ones were still very hostile towards Shuzhi. But they didn’t end up like last time, fighting each other.

Li Yunqiang knew the temperament of his sons, so he would never ask Guodong to take care of the younger one.

He was aware of the rift between the brothers, which was unavoidable. Seeing the second one like this, the other children saw things clearly, minimizing future problems.

Although the dumplings were made with minced shrimp and cabbage, they were still very fragrant because of the added lard.

Xi hasn’t discussed with Dad the reason for Mom’s divorce these past few days. But with his departure approaching, he decided to talk to Dad tonight.

So he took his quilt to Dad’s room at night.

”I already know. Your second uncle told me.

Whatever happens, but Xi, you need to have your principles. Decide what must be done. You should sort it out in your mind.”

”Dad, I understand. I have enough money to buy a house; if I find a suitable one, I’ll purchase it.”

”That’s necessary; without a home, who would be willing to marry you?

Also, you haven’t reached marriage age, but you can start dating.”

”Dad, I understand.” In truth, Xi wasn’t in a rush to marry; witnessing Mom’s situation made him lose faith.

But he wouldn’t speak of it, preventing Dad from worrying.

”Dad, will you find someone else like Uncle did?”

Li Yunqiang chuckled, ”Your uncle has abilities; I’m just a farmer in the village, who would want to be with me?”

Xi thought for a while. ”Dad, I’m not opposed to you finding someone else, but please don’t choose someone with kids.”
