Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Putting down this letter, Jiang Xinyu picked up the counselor’s letter. They hadn’t contacted each other for almost two years.

Zhang Xinghua’s letter was just a simple greeting, mainly to tell her that he’s going back to his hometown, and the address was included above.

Jiang Xinyu thought that things might not be calm over there either. Actually, going back is quite good. Isn’t it nice to have a few quiet years?

She put the letter away, planning to write back in the evening.

In the evening, Wei Kaiyun learned that his wife would go to the county tomorrow to call Qian Jun.

He didn’t stop her. Actually, regardless of how Qian Jun is, their personal relationship is still good. The most important thing is that when Xinyu was pregnant, Qian Jun helped, which was a great favor.

”You don’t need to go to the county, just go to the township to find Xing Xiangzhang to make a call. It’s quite safe, too.”

Jiang Xinyu shook her head. ”No, I’ll go to the post office to make the call. I’ll call him tomorrow to see how things are.

Actually, I really don’t have the ability to help.”

”You find out, and I’ll see if I can do anything.”

”Are you going to get involved?”

”We owe Qian Jun a favor. I also need to see if I have the ability.

He doesn’t have your courage; he can’t give up the power in his hands.”

Jiang Xinyu agreed with Wei Kaiyun, Qian Jun indeed could not give up his power. Actually, sometimes taking a step back is also a way out, she decided to advise him tomorrow, but she wasn’t sure if he would listen.

”How many days left?”

”Another three or four days, I guess.”

”That’s fine. Oh, by the way, Zhang Bao Hua contacted you, probably for something.”

”Okay, I’ll go see him in a few days.”

What could be the matter over there? She hadn’t been in touch for a few years.

The next day, Jiang Xinyu drove herself to the county.

She reached Qian Jun on the phone.

”Xinyu?”

”Yes, I got your letter yesterday. What’s up?”

”Nothing, just overwhelmed with too many troubles, but I’ve already solved some. It’s much better than when I wrote you the letter.”

”Well, that’s good. I thought something had happened.”

”What could be wrong here? When are you coming back? I never work well with anyone other than you. I really need you.” Qian Jun shifted his posture, leaning back in his chair, eyes closed, rubbing his temples with one hand. He hadn’t slept all night and had a headache.

”I’m living quite well here; I don’t want to go back. At least I don’t plan to return for years.”

”Is it that good there?”

”Yes, why don’t you also quit and come over? Work from sunrise to sunset feels much more relaxed.” Jiang Xinyu said with a laugh.

”Ha, Xinyu, you should know me, I can’t let go.”

”But aren’t you tired and troubled?”

”Yes, tired, empty, and troubled. But relatively speaking, I still want to achieve something for myself.”

Now Jiang Xinyu remained silent. This was his pursuit, and she couldn’t persuade him.

”Find someone, then you won’t feel empty. Although achieving something for yourself is important, you need a balance in life too.”

”I’m seeing someone now. It’s okay. We’re planning to get married at the end of the year. Will you come back?”

”I can only congratulate you from here. It’s quite difficult for me to go back. The kids are small, and I’m afraid they might get sick.”

Qian Jun thought Jiang Xinyu was referring to Shi Jing and Feifei, thinking she was just spoiling the kids too much. They were already six or seven years old, what could be small, but he said nothing.

The operator urged Jiang Xinyu, ”I’m hanging up. Write to me if there’s anything.”

”Alright, I’ll be waiting for you to come back.”

After hanging up the phone, Jiang Xinyu grudgingly paid five yuan. Then she mailed letters to Zhang Xinghua and Qiao Jingyi, and also to Wang Ailing, She Xiaoyun, and Lv Beiguang.

She went to the supply and marketing cooperative, thinking about buying more candles and matches. Finally, she unexpectedly got some rock sugar, so she could make sweet desserts with it.

By lunchtime, she returned home, and in the afternoon, she was at home peeling chestnuts with the kids. It’s a long-term activity anyway.

Her daughter loved chestnut-filled steamed buns, so she definitely wanted her to have them.

Actually, eating chestnuts is good for the kids, it adds iron. It’s just a bit of work, otherwise, it’s boring too.

”Mom, can we have braised chicken with extra chestnuts tonight?”

Jiang Xinyu smiled and nodded, ”Jianbin, go to the chicken farm and buy two big chickens. If the grandfather there has time, ask him to help with the slaughter.”

”Okay, I’ll go now.”

An hour later, Jianbin came back with two big chickens. Each weighed about four to five pounds, so they could stew a big pot.

All the chestnuts they’d peeled in the past few days went into it.

The five people who had gone up the mountain earlier were happy when they smelled the fragrance upon returning.

Lunch was just something to get by with, but having a good meal at night, of course, everyone was delighted.

Shang Zhenkun ate very little and didn’t look well.

”Master Shang, in two or three days, let’s take a trip to the city hospital.” Wei Kaiyun was quite worried about Shang Zhenkun.

”Can the city’s doctors be better than Liu Xuefa?” Shang Zhenkun said indifferently. Life and death are subject to fate.

”We’ll know after we check. Why don’t we take a trip to the Capital?” Jiang Xinyu chimed in, persuading as well.

”These old bones of mine don’t want to move. I’ll just stay here and take it slow. Relax, I can still live for a few more years.”

Even though Shang Zhenkun said so, everyone still wasn’t at ease.

”Master Shang, let’s go to the Capital. I haven’t been home to visit in years. Now we’re free, and since it’s a sleeper ticket, we’ll spend the New Year there. With our family of fourteen going, isn’t it great?”

Feifei leaned beside Shang Zhenkun, ”Master Shang, please go once. We’ll feel at ease after checking.”

”Feifei wants to go out?” Shang Zhenkun truly cherished and loved Jiang Feifei, treating her differently from the two boys.

”Yes, Master Shang, I’m worried about you, and I want you to see me grow up.” Feifei looked at Shang Zhenkun eagerly.

”Okay, let’s go to the Capital for the New Year. Actually, Old Zheng has already told me about my health. You are worrying too much. I promise to do my best to be with Feifei as she grows up.”

Now the family felt at ease.

When going up the mountain the next day, Guodong mentioned to Li Xue that after a few days, they would go to the Capital, and everyone in the family would go.

Li Xue felt a little sad. The boyfriend had just come back for a few days, and now he was leaving again?

”Xue’er, why don’t I talk to Aunt Jiang and ask if you can come with us?”

”Can I?” Li Xue looked at Guodong excitedly.

”I don’t know, but I think it might be possible.

Later, when I go down the mountain, I’ll ask Aunt Jiang.”

”Okay, I’ll go with you to talk to Teacher Jiang.”

Li Xue really didn’t want to be apart from Guodong, and having the chance to go to the Capital, of course, she was willing. But she was just afraid the family wouldn’t agree.
