She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Then, Qin Shan ran out of the house, looking accusatory: ”Sister Chen, how can you make grandma angry? Grandma is an elder, and it’s right for her to instruct the younger generation on what to do. It’s wrong to disrespect elders; if this gets to the Government Office, we’ll be beaten. Sister Chen, don’t be stubborn, hurry up and cook, don’t make grandma angry again.”

As she spoke, she patted Liu Hehua on the back, signaling her to calm down.

Liu Hehua felt a little better, glaring coldly at Ah Chen: ”Why aren’t you hurrying up?”

”I’m not the only one doing the chores at home; I’ve been doing it alone for years, and Qin Shan has been the lady for quite a while. Now it’s time for her to do it.”

”I’m not doing this anymore.”

”Qin Shan, since you are so filial to grandma, why don’t you hurry up and do the chores at home? By the way, it’s time to cook now, go quickly.”

Liu Hehua took a feather duster to hit Ah Chen, but all the blows were avoided, and even Qin Shan got dragged into it and was hit a few times, causing her to cry out in pain.

With time passing by and unable to command Ah Chen, Liu Hehua glared at her with a gloomy face, eventually looking at Qin Shan, who was bending down rubbing the area hit by the feather duster.

Qin Shan’s heart went cold, just as she heard Liu Hehua say, ”Lazy girl, hurry up and cook! Are you trying to starve the entire family?”

Qin Shan was so aggrieved that her eyes were red: ”Grandma, shouldn’t Sister Chen be the one doing it?”

She considered it briefly, but glanced at Ah Chen.

Unfortunately, Ah Chen was unmoved, even with a slight smile, which filled Qin Shan with anger: ”Sister Chen, let’s go to the kitchen and cook, otherwise everyone will be hungry, and you don’t want uncle and aunt to go hungry after a hard day, do you?”

”I’ve said it’s your turn to exert yourself. It’s not just my family eating, I’ve been doing this for years, now it’s your turn.”

Qin Shan wanted to say something more, but Liu Hehua was unwilling to wait.

She couldn’t control Ah Chen, so she picked the softer target, the feather duster landed on Qin Shan’s leg.

No matter how unwilling Qin Shan was, she couldn’t match Liu Hehua, so she had to hop into the kitchen and start cooking, stumbling along.

She wanted to make some noise, but Liu Hehua was watching her like a hawk, and if she dared, she’d be hit by the feather duster in an instant.

The meal at this time was just some wild vegetable porridge and bread, not very palatable, but cooking it was enough, for hungry people everything tastes good without demanding flavor.

The Qin Family started coming back in succession.

Qin Yunshu studied in the city and didn’t return daily, Qin Shanjie was the same, he could stay at the study, and if there was nothing, he didn’t want to return to the village either.

So those returning were the eldest and second couples of the Qin Family.

Once they returned, Liu Hehua made a fuss, explaining everything clearly, and went on a tirade.

”This wretched girl is defiant, dare to shirk responsibilities, even dare not listen to me, the grandma. Eldest, you must teach her well.” Liu Hehua started criticizing Qin Shanlin, even looking at Cui Ying with disdain, ”Can’t lay eggs, can’t even teach a girl properly?”

Qin Shanlin and Cui Ying kept their heads down, not daring to make a peep.

”This girl is already fifteen, time to find her a husband. Before that, you must educate her properly, don’t let her embarrass us after marriage. Let me handle her marriage, you needn’t worry.” Liu Hehua’s eyes sparkled with calculation, this wretched girl Qin Chen indeed looks quite good, should fetch a hefty dowry.

With two studying in the family, money is needed urgently.

Qin Shanlin nodded repeatedly, agreeing with Liu Hehua’s words, seeing but not daring to defy his mother’s eyes of dissent. Cui Ying, who usually couldn’t speak up, didn’t dare say more.

”Xiao Chen,” Qin Shanlin called out to Ah Chen, ”Come here and apologize to your grandma? You’re so big now, how can you still not understand? When your grandma tells you to do something, you should do it, how can you defy your elders?”

Qin Shanlin normally treated this daughter indifferently, neither good nor bad.

Better than other fathers in the village, not beating or scolding all the time, as for striving for something, that’s impossible. In front of Liu Hehua, his old mother, Qin Shanlin is unconditionally obedient. Concerning this daughter, he didn’t have much expectation. He pinned hopes on younger brother Qin Shanjie and nephew Qin Yunshu.

”The house chores were meant to be done by Qin Shan and me together, I’ve been doing it alone for years, now it’s time for Qin Shan to do it.” Ah Chen said, while serving herself a bowl of wild vegetable porridge and took a bread to eat, Liu Hehua couldn’t stop her.

Liu Hehua sat down on the ground bawling, demanding Qin Shanlin to deal with Ah Chen.

Ah Chen continued eating while dodging, Qin Shanlin had no means to catch her, sweating profusely.

Liu Hehua also asked Qin Shanyan’s couple for help but still couldn’t catch Ah Chen, watching her finish her portion while Qin Family was exhausted and out of breath.

”Report to the Government Office, send this girl to be beaten there.” Liu Hehua cried furiously, Qin Shanlin didn’t know how to comfort her, his face turned gloomy, adding a few shades of disgust when looking at Ah Chen.

Ah Chen said blandly, ”Go ahead and report, then your precious son and nephew might also be affected, making people laugh. Whose face gets embarrassed? These years, you’ve been exploiting only me, while Qin Shan lives like a wealthy lady. I’m quite envious and wish for such days. I can’t rely on my parents, so I have to find a way myself.”

Liu Hehua suddenly went silent, but Qin Shan felt a tightening in her heart, thinking that all the housework would fall on her shoulders in the future.

Seeing everyone quiet down, Ah Chen fetched water to wash up and returned to her room.

The main hall was quiet for a while as everyone ate, yet Liu Hehua’s reproachful voice was heard, telling Qin Shanlin to discipline his daughter.

”Eldest, this girl is getting more and more unruly. If you can’t manage her, marry her off.”

Qin Shanlin said, ”Listen to mother.”

Cui Ying was anxious but had no choice and hurriedly ate a few bites before going to Ah Chen’s small room.

”Why provoke your grandmother?” She stared at Ah Chen for a long while before saying this, her face full of worry, ”Now she’s afraid she won’t find you a good match. As long as someone offers enough, she’ll agree.”

”Will not provoking her make things better?” Ah Chen asked.

In the first cycle, if it wasn’t for Ji Qing, not only offering a generous bride price but also having a bright future, Liu Hehua would never agree.

In the second cycle, those men appeared.

In neither cycle did the Commissioner fall out with the family because she had just crossed over, and hadn’t completely torn faces with Liu Hehua, fate started to change, benefiting the Qin Family too.

Back then, Liu Hehua married her daughter Qin Dan to a lame man over ten years older for Qin Shanjie’s education. Liu Hehua actually had some affection for Qin Dan.

For the Commissioner’s granddaughter, she had none, unwilling to find her a good husband.

”Your grandmother wants to find someone for you, but I’m afraid it won’t be a good family,” Cui Ying said.

Ah Chen said, ”Mother, don’t worry. I have a plan, and I won’t suffer. I can’t go on like this. I won’t be able to turn things around for a lifetime.”

She wasn’t an ordinary person, and naturally wouldn’t bear it and remain like an old ox in this family.

Cui Ying had affection for her daughter but lacked the capability to change anything.

Cui Ying was helpless, sighed, and left the room.

The next day, Liu Hehua began arranging Ah Chen’s marriage, but Ah Chen ignored her.

Ah Chen no longer did any chores, leaving all tasks to Qin Shan.

Ignoring Qin Shan’s murderous glare, she relaxed in the courtyard, infuriating Qin Shan to the point of grinding her teeth.

As for when those men tangled with the Commissioner would appear, Ah Chen didn’t care.

Since they needed the Commissioner, they’d find a way to come forward; there’s no need to worry.

Speak of the devil and he shall appear; that night, a shadow suddenly jumped into Ah Chen’s small room through the window.

When she opened her eyes, a hand clenched her throat, accompanied by a faint smell of blood.

”Miss, I mean no harm. I’m truly out of options and wish to shelter here briefly. If you agree to stay silent, I will let you go.”

After a while, Ah Chen softly agreed.

She didn’t light a lamp; in fact, there was no lamp in her room. As Liu Hehua would say, lamp oil costs copper coins, right?

But tonight, the moonlight was good, and using the moonlight streaming in through the window, one could make out a general view of the person.

The shadow released Ah Chen, then collapsed to the side from exhaustion.

”I am Pei Qi, may I know the lady’s name?”

Ah Chen whispered, ”Qin Chen.”

Pei Qi’s real name is Pei Hui, the Seventh Prince of the current dynasty.

In the first cycle, he successfully won the throne, and later, though he had many concubines, he only fathered daughters. Hence, in his reborn life, he was eager to get the Commissioner. At the right moment, his rebirth point was while working away, conveniently staging a damsel-save-hero scenario.
