She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Tao Lan, the frail young girl, was carried by Lan Xin to the medical clinic. There wasn’t any major illness, just hunger.

After the doctor had prescribed medicine, Lan Xin carried Tao Lan out and got into a carriage.

Tao Lan’s heart was unsettled, but seeing Ah Chen also in the carriage, she let out a sigh of relief and quietly asked, ”Miss, where are we going?”

”Taking you to a place where you can settle down,” Ah Chen replied, ”Don’t you need a place to stay?”

”As long as you have hands and feet, you’ll never lack food there, and no one will force you to go to such places.”

”It’s a secluded place, far away from the hustle and bustle.”

These people with ulterior motives have come to her side, and she is not a killing machine, so she can’t just kill them all. Keeping them by her side would require too much patience, and letting them go would make things too easy for them.

So she simply arranged a place for them.

Ah Chen thought to herself.

Tao Lan wondered what kind of secluded place it could be, raising many concerns, but dared not refute, for any more protests would seem suspicious.

After a brief interaction, she realized that Chu Chen wasn’t exactly a merciful character, so she had to hold back.

Soon, the carriage arrived at Jingyue Temple.

Ah Chen had some interaction with Jingyue Temple recently because Nun Yunqing from the temple had some abilities but was stuck in a bottleneck. Ah Chen felt they were fated and offered help, leading to familiarity between them.

Nun Yunqing listened to Ah Chen, glanced at Tao Lan, and agreed to settle Tao Lan there.

”She says she can do anything,” Ah Chen said, ”Once she recovers, Nun, you can arrange some tasks for her.”

”Naturally, our temple never keeps idle people,” Nun Yunqing said earnestly, ”It just so happens we’re short of hands here.”

Ah Chen chuckled, ”From now on, whenever someone is out of options, I’ll send them to you.”

Provided they try to get close to her.

”Very well,” Nun Yunqing smiled slightly as well. Since they are here, they can’t leave without doing work for at least half a year or a year.

Currently, the temple indeed lacks people to do things.

Most of those who end up in Chu’s vicinity are not particularly good, so there’s no need for any psychological burden when giving them orders. Since they’ve come, they won’t be allowed to leave without working for at least half a year or a year.

Tao Lan felt a chill all over, shrinking her neck in fear; something didn’t feel right. Would this nun possibly eat people?

Then, after a brief chat between Ah Chen and Nun Yunqing, the carriage left. Tao Lan wanted to call out to them but had no standing, as Chu Chen indeed found her a place to stay.

Being overly difficult now would make anyone find it odd.

Going back like this, she’d find it even harder to explain.

”You need not be afraid; even if those who wanted to bully you before come here, they won’t be able to take you away,” Nun Yunqing said, stamping her foot on the ground lightly. Upon stepping away, there was a deep footprint. She took two steps, leaving two footprints, causing Tao Lan to hold her breath in fright.

Was she sent to a dark temple?

Could she still back out now?

Nun Yunqing saw her cowering like a quail, feeling satisfied. Just a small display of skill, and she wouldn’t dare disobey.

”I’ll give you ten days to recuperate,” she said. This girl was really desperate, working herself to the bone to approach Chu, ”What skills do you have?”

Tao Lan dared not lie and recounted her skills one by one, her peripheral gaze catching the footprints on the ground, once again scaring her lips white.

She wasn’t stupid and understood she was probably under suspicion. But what could she do now? Escape? With the nun’s foot leaving a pit with each step, could she possibly escape?

Better to stay here for now and look for a chance to send a message later.

”Miss Chu, it seems there’s a smell of blood,” Lan Xin’s voice sounded. She lifted the carriage curtain, and saw a person covered with blood by the roadside. Her expression turned strange as she retreated and told Ah Chen, ”There’s a person nearby, soaked in blood, not sure if they’re dead or alive.”

After what happened with Tao Lan, she truly couldn’t be certain whether this person was genuinely injured or just wanted to approach Miss Chu this way, leaving her unable not to think about it.

Ah Chen didn’t get out but had the carriage driven closer. She lifted the window curtain for a glance before letting it down.

Last time, Nun Yunqing mentioned they lacked a woodcutter at the temple.

Whether it was a man or a woman didn’t really matter, as after all, Jingyue Temple was no ordinary place, not your typical nunnery. There weren’t many people there, just Nun Yunqing and a few of her disciples, all dedicated to cultivation with remarkable skills, albeit not young anymore.

”Go have a look,” Ah Chen said, ”See if they’re still alive. Wake them up, ask them where they’re from, and whether we need to report to the authorities. If it’s unnecessary and they request shelter, lift them on board.”

Lan Xin understood and immediately jumped off the carriage.

She actually managed to shake the person awake. Upon learning she intended to report to the authorities, they quickly refused, saying their circumstances were inconvenient for involving the authorities, and they wished to settle their future vendettas on their own, only seeking a place to stay and willing to do any kind of work.

”Miss, he says he’s willing to do any job,” Lan Xin shouted towards the carriage.

Lying on the ground, An Lin was stunned, wasn’t he supposed to be saving his dying self? Why did work seem to take precedence here?

”Bring him up.”

Ah Chen had already given the word, so Lan Xin swiftly hoisted An Lin up.

She, too, was a martial practitioner, recently gaining significant progress under Miss Chu’s guidance, and possessed strength aplenty. Picking up a mere man was no challenge and felt like an underutilization of her skills.

An Lin hadn’t even fully reacted before Lan Xin had already hoisted and brought him onto the carriage, leaving him in a daze.

”He’s covered in injuries but not life-threatening,” Lan Xin said. She excelled with such external injuries, ”Earlier, I saw Nun Yunqing had herbs there, they should be able to treat him.”

”They happen to need someone to chop wood and split logs over there. He fits the bill perfectly, and with a bit of sickness, she should help treat him herself,” Ah Chen remarked without any guilt, as she examined An Lin who was propped against the carriage. With that physique, chopping wood would be a breeze.

In ten days, he could chop enough wood to last a year and a half, and could even split it neatly.

Even if not kept permanently, staying for a year or two, Jingyue Temple wouldn’t run out of firewood for a long time, though branches don’t last many years, with logs stored inside, they’d last quite a while.

Ah Chen propped her chin and laughed, clearly planning An Lin’s role ahead.

Wondering who sent this one.

It wasn’t really significant whether they were from some prince or the Weimu Marquis Mansion, it made no difference to her.

”Very well,” Nun Yunqing said as she saw Ah Chen’s carriage return, bringing another woodcutter, giving praise. She even checked An Lin’s pulse, mentioning, ”These injuries aren’t problematic, with no bone damage, and my herbal treatments can heal him. He should recover in ten days to half a month.”

”Didn’t you need a place to settle?” Ah Chen continued, ”Rest assured here, helping with the wood. The nun will protect you, no need to fear your enemies following you here.” She praised again, ”The nun’s very skilled.”

Tao Lan silently nodded; indeed, leaving deep footprints with each step, exceedingly skilled.

After Ah Chen left, Nun Yunqing duplicated the act before An Lin, stamping two more footprints onto the stone slab and, with a smile, asked, ”Do you think your enemies match my skills?”

An Lin nearly fell over, shaking his head earnestly.

He wouldn’t dare to flee now.

”That’s good, rest assured while staying here, work hard on the wood, and this poor nun promises your safety,” Nun Yunqing said, implying hidden meanings, unwilling to waste these unpaid laborers. Ah Chen indeed was quite the character.
