She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!

Chapter 290: Chapter 289: Her Husband Married Her Waiting for Another to Arrive (Part 1)

”Madam, just hand me the thermos, President Yu is still in a meeting. There are some important matters today, and it won’t finish for a while.”

”Once President Yu finishes the meeting, I will personally deliver the soup Madam made to him.”

However, President Yu might not have any interest in drinking the soup, and by then, it would still be up to his assistant to take care of it. Fortunately, Madam’s cooking skills are quite good, Chen Zhu thought to himself.

If not for being a trusted aide of President Yu, and having some understanding of this Madam, he might really have been deceived by her virtuous and gentle appearance.

In reality, apart from this outer shell, she has virtually no merits.

Vain, pretentious, willful, and loves to show off; none of the virtues manifest in her, and it’s only in front of President Yu that she appears a bit obedient. Behind President Yu’s back, she always likes to boast to her fair-weather friends about President Yu’s indulgence of her.

One wonders why President Yu married such a wife. Could it be just to fulfill the verbal marriage contract between the Yu Family and the Lu Family? But this wife is merely a stepdaughter of the Lu Family, and she doesn’t seem to be valued much in the Lu Family; she can hardly be considered a true phoenix, at best, just a wild chicken that followed her mother to perch on a branch of the Lu Family. Besides, if President Yu didn’t want to fulfill this marriage contract, who could force him? Now is the era of free marriage, not arranged by parental orders.

”No need, I’ll wait for him.” Ah Chen sidestepped Chen Zhu, holding the thermos, and found a place to sit and wait.

The President Yu Chen Zhu referred to is the commissioner’s husband, Yu Xiaoran.

The commissioner naturally likes Yu Xiaoran; she likes the man himself, his status, his money—everything about him she likes. For some reasons, she desperately hopes to stand in a higher place, so she adopts a lower stance when facing Yu Xiaoran.

As for this marriage contract, it was Yu Xiaoran who first brought it up to her, using the excuse that the promise made by the elders must be kept. Currently, he doesn’t like her yet but suggested they marry first and gradually develop feelings. They registered a month ago, and since there’s no emotion yet, they’ll wait until there is emotion to hold the wedding, and the commissioner believed him.

The commissioner indeed asked, what if they never develop feelings?

Yu Xiaoran said that as long as she doesn’t bring up divorce and can accept this mode, he won’t easily mention divorce either, unless he finds someone he likes. Having heard this, she, already quite satisfied with Yu Xiaoran, had no hesitation. She liked Yu Xiaoran and also liked the fact that his family background was slightly more prestigious than the Lu Family.

She believed that once she became Yu Xiaoran’s wife, she could hold her head high in the Lu Family.

The reason being that she and her mother entered the Lu Family through her mother’s remarriage. Her stepfather did not treat them poorly, but her two stepbrothers didn’t like them and were very cold to them. In her childhood, her mother endured many cold glares, yet had to maintain family harmony, not daring to say anything bad about them.

Now that they have grown up, they naturally don’t make it so obvious as when they were children, but they remain indifferent and look down on them.

The commissioner is very clear in self-awareness, not considering herself a capable person. As for earning recognition through excellent results? Forget it—achieving admission to a good college already took her all her effort. Meanwhile, her two stepbrothers excel with ease, effortlessly getting into the best schools, completely outmatching her in intelligence.

The only way for her to earn respect was to marry a man with a better family background than the Lu Family. Early on, she set her sights on Yu Xiaoran. But being able to enter his circle was thanks to her status as the Lu Family’s stepdaughter, which was quite laughable.

At first, she didn’t think success was possible, but unexpectedly, Yu Xiaoran proactively proposed this marriage.

It sounds incredible, but there really is such a marriage agreement between the Yu Family and the Lu Family. However, among the Lu Family’s grandchildren are two sons, and among the Yu Family’s grandchildren are also two sons—just a coincidence.

If it were another identity, the commissioner not only wouldn’t believe it but would think she’s stumbled into some scam, let alone agree to the other party’s conditions, she would directly call the police.

But this person is Yu Xiaoran, the president of Yu Corporation, young and promising, handsome and wealthy.

To be frank, she’s like a wild chicken that flew up to a perch, while the other party is a dragon among men. Apart from her appearance, she has nothing else that matches up.

Thinking the other party had no reason to deceive her, she even secretly investigated if Yu Xiaoran had any sickly first love that needed a transplant of some sort. No, this person maintains a routine of work and home, only interacting with other women when work requires it.

So, what could he want from her?

It might be purely for fulfilling the elders’ marriage contract; some people really do value such contracts highly.

Of course, she also had a hypothesis that maybe the Yu Family and Lu Family had some secret cooperation, plotting something big.

If that was the truth, she wouldn’t mind at all, as she doesn’t lose out on anything anyway.

She’s a shallow person, she likes Yu Xiaoran, and merely getting him is enough. The fact he is willing to develop feelings is a pleasant surprise. Even if, in the end, he didn’t fall for her, as long as he’s willing to continue being her husband, it’s still good for her.

Even if he wants a divorce, he would surely split assets with her, she wouldn’t lose out in any case.

Of course, she genuinely likes Yu Xiaoran, so thinking of possible future separation hurts her deeply. If possible, she hopes it continues this way forever.

To win him over, she learned a lot, learning to be a virtuous wife.

She even started to understand her mother’s tolerance in the Lu Family over the years, not just for survival, but because her stepfather’s appearance at that time was a saving grace for her mother. Otherwise, having an out-of-wedlock child, she wouldn’t have known how to proceed.

Her stepfather was like her mother’s lifeline, held onto with no intention to let go—maybe not deeply loved, but at that time, he profoundly moved her mother, already regarded as a pillar holding up the sky.

She thought she could accept any outcome but never expected one that she couldn’t accept to appear.

Yu Xiaoran wasn’t waiting for another person but a bird! A bird that sang beautifully, one whose songs and storytelling could relax the nerves.

Many people liked her; even her stepfather and stepbrothers did.

If this bird wasn’t inhabiting her body, she might like such a bird too, very willing to send gifts during its live streams.

But the fact the opponent wants to dwell in her body, as the existence Yu Xiaoran meticulously awaited, pains her.

Isn’t this deception?

She’s hypocritical, greedy, flamboyant, even vain; hardly adorned with virtuous qualities, but she hasn’t harmed anyone.

She is genuinely fond of Yu Xiaoran.

She has certainly not harmed him.

He shouldn’t deceive her!

Even if he knew the bird would traverse to her body, he shouldn’t have deceived her in advance.

He could have waited secretly, not letting her know.

Then she wouldn’t have been so painfully agonized, driven to uncontrollable madness.

He was so ruthless, unable to retain that bird, yet he holds her captive, not allowing her to leave, still blaming her for all of it being her fault.

What did she do wrong?

Regarding this matter, she has done nothing wrong; she simply wants to reclaim control of her body—how is that wrong?
