Gun of Ashes

Watson continued to narrate, the number of people implicated in this plan was far more than everyone knew.

“Then comes the concealment of misinformation, the Purification Mechanism manages the newspapers and broadcasts in Old Dunling, we will attribute all this to abnormal weather phenomena, resulting in torrential rains and floods, impacting some old facilities, causing paralysis and explosions…”

“Like another ‘gas explosion’?” Red Falcon couldn’t help but feel it sounded familiar.

“But this still can’t cover all the suspicions.”

Night Owl said, in events like this, merely relying on public opinion and Anti-Meme forgetting remains unreliable, there will always be traces left behind.

“Yes, so I will manipulate the Anti-Meme to influence their memories, even distort their cognition, creating a natural disaster devoid of any Demons… After this, you don’t need to worry too much, Cleaners will resolve it.”

Watson looked out at Old Dunling under the rain and fog, the vast majority of citizens should have already fallen asleep, during their sleep, Cleaners were hurriedly tidying the battlefield, at least cleaning up the corpses exposed on Old Dunling’s surface.

Dead citizens and soldiers would appear on the missing lists of disaster reports, people would mourn but also rise from sadness and continue forward.

“Mm, according to our plan, we’ll blur everything from this day as much as possible, all reports will deliberately forget this day, it will become a nonexistent day,” Joey said at this time, as a Cleaner himself, he knew exactly what would happen, “As for the corpses on the streets, we will first handle those exposed on the roads, easily discoverable, and the rest will be thoroughly cleaned up within half a month.”

“Then comes the surveillance, we’ll continuously monitor the changes in the situation, such surveillance will last for years, until ensuring that everyone has forgotten everything that happened within this day.

To bury the nightmares, sever all corrosion.”

This is what the Cleaners are supposed to do, usually an almost impossible task, but under such large-scale, excessive Anti-Meme influence, coupled with Watson, the monster manipulating the [Gap], making the impossible possible.

It’s like a pair of invisible hands controlling everything, cutting out a few days from people’s lives and throwing them into dusty shadows, forever buried.

Only this way can the secret of the Demons continue to remain hidden in the darkness, suppress the spread of the Demons’ ‘information’, and only this way can the erosion left behind by Roger be completely eradicated, leaving no path for recurrence.

“Are you sure this is feasible?” Night Owl asked.

“Perhaps.”

This time, the reply came from Shao Liangye, he looked at Night Owl and continued.

“If we use Jiuxia’s Anti-Meme, this might be feasible.”

“Because you often do so in Jiuxia too?” Night Owl asked.

“It’s an unavoidable matter, facing such enemies, we must isolate ourselves from the information disaster… which is forgetting, right?”

Listening to Shao Liangye, Night Owl remained silent.

Indeed, within the Purification Mechanism, everyone’s conclusion is also to be forgotten, just like the Bluebird forgotten by people, gradually disappearing, returning to normalcy.

“The history we’ve experienced is erroneous history, we must correct this erroneous history and restore it to its proper course… and once all this is back on track, there’s no need to remember the errors.”

Watson’s voice was extremely cold, like a machine.

“Thus, gathering you all here, you’re inherently resistant, so this level of Anti-Meme won’t have too much effect on you, therefore, I need to collectively process you.”

“What are you saying?” Red Falcon exclaimed, “You mean, you want us to forget these too.”

“Is there a problem?”

Watson retorted, and being asked like this, Red Falcon really didn’t know how to refute for a moment, but as to why to object, he couldn’t quite figure out.

Perhaps he was always the handler, now he’s become the handled, this strange sense of disparity motivated him.

“This is for your protection, and a condition for the plan’s continuation, you’ve all been tainted with erosion, not just in the confrontation with Roger, you might also be watched by the Inexpressible in the shadows.”

Watson continued.

“Moreover, you’ve noticed too, the success of the Mechanical Deity, which proves the plan’s feasibility, and the importance of ‘forgetting’, this not only protects you but also safeguards our real objective from enemy scrutiny.”

It’s a total burial, leaving no insiders, a war destined to be forgotten.

“Then who will remember all this?”

Suddenly, Shao Liangxi asked, looking at Watson.

“Like you, someone will always remember all this, secretly observing, right? So who are they?”

Watson shook her head, “You’re not entitled to know.”

Upon hearing this, Shao Liangxi understood another meaning, she wasn’t an insider, she was also one to be forgotten.

There was a long silence on site, no one spoke, occasionally someone looked at Lorenzo, but Lorenzo gave no response, only staring dazedly at the golden sky.

“I’m a soldier, an employee, I follow orders, if this is what you want.”

The first to make a decision was Night Owl, then Blue Jade followed, supporting Night Owl, they walked into the fine rain mist, followed by others, Eve hesitated for a moment, and suddenly she heard Lorenzo’s voice.
