Gun of Ashes

The storm and heavy rain gradually dissipated, Old Dunling regained its calm, but beneath this calm lay ruins and corpses, like a post-apocalyptic battlefield.

Some citizens gathered their courage and cautiously stepped out of buildings, gazing at the beauty after the battle, and then more people emerged. But before they could observe much, gray figures surrounded them, the Cleaners shouted, driving them back to the shelters, and with the arrival of the Cleaners, the bluish fog closely followed them.

The fog permeated everything, effortlessly penetrating layer upon layer of protection, deeply infiltrating in an eerie manner, while the Cleaners protected themselves thoroughly, completely isolated from the fog.

Citizens touched by the fog first quieted down, then they felt a wave of fatigue, falling into a long sleep, while simultaneously, the Anti-Meme attacked them, devouring their memories.

Such scenes were happening everywhere in Old Dunling, densely blue sprouted everywhere, spilling out, accompanied by the pattering of rain as it carried Anti-Meme substances, purifying the city, washing away the nightmares in everyone’s minds who were exposed to the drizzle.

”So... what about your friends?”

The woman comforted the child and gently spoke to the person looking out the window beside her.

”Perhaps... perhaps they are still somewhere, battling with those monsters.”

Buscalo thought for a moment and could only come up with this conclusion.

”Didn’t they take you along?” The woman could see the disappointment in the man’s eyes.

”Well, it’s a helpless situation,” Buscalo smiled calmly, with a hint of bitterness, ”We were originally people from two different worlds, but this crisis happens to connect us together.”

Buscalo leaned over, gently stroking the child’s sleeping face.

Warmth flowed from his fingertips, and at this moment, even Buscalo’s own restless heart calmed down.

He did it, although the journey was rough, he really did it.

”It was truly an adventure like a dream.”

Buscalo reminisced about everything in the storm, sighing deeply.

At the same time, bluish fog slowly seeped in, gradually causing many people to fall into peaceful sleep, it was closing in on Buscalo.

”So, have you forgiven me?” Buscalo remembered something else, he looked at the woman, sincerely.

The woman hesitated for a moment, then smiled, gently stroking Buscalo’s bald head, tidying the few messy hairs, making them look more neat.

If not for this damn bald head, she would have had difficulty recognizing this demon-chasing guy as Buscalo.

”You’ve made changes, why not give you another chance.”

Upon hearing this, Buscalo laughed with satisfaction, then his consciousness began to grow heavy due to inhaling the bluish fog.

He really wanted to share this good news with his wonderful friends, but his consciousness grew heavier, and those figures gradually blurred and even disappeared.

Old Dunling settled down to sleep, while Watson’s will traversed through it.

[Survivors who can still move, please quickly reach the nearest outpost.]

Watson issued instructions to the survivors; the war was over, but the echoes of war had not completely dissipated.

The pervasive corrosion in Old Dunling, the corpses of demons, and the cognition of the citizens...

The only fortunate thing might be that Old Dunling was strictly sealed off, armed trains followed the tracks, firmly binding the city completely isolated from the outside world.

Watson’s words echoed in the survivors’ minds, and they also changed the direction of their actions, handing over everything on hand to the Cleaners, while approaching Old Dunling themselves.

Scattered crowds appeared on the streets, they were all injured soldiers, and some Armor of Original Sin were moving with difficulty, every step splashing a lot of water.

They approached the hidden outposts on Old Dunling’s streets, Armor of Original Sin were transported via secret passages of the Cleaners to underground facilities, the battle destroyed the Land of Sorrow, but most facilities were still running stably, allowing these hideous machines to be quickly removed from Old Dunling’s streets.

Doctors from Black Mountain Hospital also emerged after the fierce battle, the battle mainly concentrated around the Mechanical Institute, sparing the intentionally hidden Black Mountain Hospital from harm, hard not to speculate that this was designed from the start, allowing Black Mountain Hospital to fully treat the soldiers.

However, this time the doctors carried equipment similar to the Cleaners, wearing respiratory masks on their faces, dressed in white isolation suits, treating the wounded soldiers, soon the bluish fog would swallow them as well.

They fell into a peaceful dream, casting the hellish nightmare just passed deep into memory, buried, never to see the light of day again.

For the soldiers, this was a good thing, not everyone has the courage to face the invasion of nightmares and occasionally return to that hellish battlefield for decades.

Of course, this was secondary; the real main purpose was to completely eradicate the corrosion and links on the soldiers, they were fighting Roger, suffering his corrosion, even though Roger was already dead now, they must still spare no effort to block the possibility of links.
