Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]

Chapter 313: Chapter 314 - Too many questions

The two cars rumbled along the cracked, mist-covered road, their headlights barely cutting through the white veil that hung over the landscape like a ghost’s shroud. The silence inside the first car was only broken by the engine’s low growl and the occasional thud of pebbles under the tires.

The mist made it almost impossible to even see anything in front of them

In the passenger seat, Hana’s brows were furrowed, guilt written all over her features.

”I still can’t control it, okay?” she mumbled, twisting her fingers together. ”I’m trying my best, but whenever I get anxious, it just... it gets worse.”

Yunfeng glanced sideways at her, one hand steady on the steering wheel. ”Then it’s not your power that’s the problem,” he said calmly. ”It’s your emotions. The mist reacts to your state of mind. Control your emotions, calm yourself—then it’ll obey you, not the other way around.”

She sighed, looking down at her lap like a scolded child. ”Easy for you to say... you don’t have fog exploding out of your skin whenever you panic.”

”Maybe not,” he replied softly, ”but I’ve seen what happens when you let fear rule you. And I’ve seen what happens when you fight back.”

The words made her glance up, her lips twitching into a small smile. Yunfeng gave her a brief look, his silver-green eyes flashing in the dim light before turning back to the road.

Behind them, in the back seat, Muchen was fast asleep—head resting against the window, breath slow and even. Zei was snoring quietly next to him, his head tilted back awkwardly. On the seat beside Zei sat old Kailun, Jai’s grandfather, bundled in a thick coat and muttering incoherently even in sleep, occasionally swatting at imaginary flies.

The mist outside swirled lazily, moving almost in rhythm with the car. Low-level zombies wandered aimlessly along the road, half-rotted and sluggish. Yunfeng’s eyes flicked toward them every few seconds. None posed a threat. Whenever one got too close, he’d flick his wrist, and a wave of compressed air would blast it aside, skull cracking against the asphalt.

Their journey was smooth—eerily so.

”Say, Yunfeng,” Hana said suddenly, her voice lighter now, ”you said omegas don’t have much power, right? Then why am I powerful?”

”I never said that,” Yunfeng replied without looking away from the road.

She frowned. ”I think you did. Back when we were still near the fence.”

He chuckled under his breath. ”Maybe I did, but not in that exact way. Omegas aren’t weak. Historically, during the early zombie apocalypse, omegas were the strongest of us. They carried powerful genetic mutations. Some could manipulate entire environments—like fog, sound, even gravity.”

Her eyes widened. ”Seriously?”

”Seriously. But what made them vulnerable was the heat period,” Yunfeng continued, his tone calm but informative. ”You saw Jai, right? His earth manipulation is stronger than any alpha I’ve ever seen. But during heat, he’s completely bedridden. That’s why omegas became rare. They were powerful, but survival... survival was never easy for them.”

Hana stared at him for a long moment, her face pale. ”So you’re saying... I’ll have that too? A heat period?”

He glanced at her, expression unreadable. ”Most likely.”

”God,” she groaned, slumping in her seat, ”I don’t even want to imagine that. Ugh.”

Yunfeng snorted. ”I don’t want to imagine that either.”

”Eww, you’re gross!” She smacked his forearm playfully, and he nearly swerved.

”Watch it,” he grumbled, though a rare smile tugged at his lips.

Hana smirked mischievously. ”Soooo... Yunfeng... we never really had the chance to talk before, right? I wanted to ask something.”

He gave her a side-eye. ”That tone doesn’t sound good.”

Ignoring him, she leaned closer with a gleam in her eyes. ”You and Muchen... when did you guys, you know...” She made a very exaggerated hand gesture that looked halfway between a wave and an indecent mime. ”When did that happen, huh?”

Yunfeng blinked. ”What the hell are you even doing with your hands?”

”You know what I mean,” she said, grinning wickedly. ”C’mon, Muchen is pregnant! When did it happen?”

He exhaled through his nose, keeping his focus dead ahead. ”That’s none of your business.”

”Oh, so it did happen!”

Yunfeng’s jaw tightened. ”I didn’t say that.”

”But you didn’t deny it either!”

He turned his head slowly, giving her a glare that could have frozen lava. ”If you value your tongue, Hana, stop talking.”

She clamped her mouth shut but couldn’t hold back the giggle bubbling out of her. ”You’re no fun, brother.”

Yunfeng sighed, shaking his head with a faint smirk he tried to hide. ”You’re lucky you’re family.”

The car fell into a comfortable silence.

”So like... how can an omega give birth then?” Hana’s question broke the heavy silence that had settled over the car.

Yunfeng’s hands tightened on the steering wheel, the leather creaking faintly under his grip. His jaw clenched, a flicker of discomfort passing over his face. The headlights cut through the mist ahead, painting the cracked road in a pale beam of white, but his mind was miles away.

He hadn’t known at first—about the details, about how it worked. But the dreams he’d had of the future... they had shown him enough. He had read about it in one of the medical databases stored in the remnants of the research hubs. Omegas didn’t possess the same reproductive anatomy as females. They couldn’t give natural birth. The only way was through a C-section.

His throat tightened. The thought of someone cutting into Muchen’s body—his soft, flawless skin, the way his stomach rose and fell when he slept, the fragile warmth that he carried—made something cold and violent stir in his chest.

He glanced in the rearview mirror. Muchen was asleep, his head leaning slightly to the side, lips parted just enough to let out a quiet breath. His face was streaked faintly with dirt from the day’s travel, yet even that couldn’t hide how gentle he looked.

Yunfeng’s heart twisted.

If it had been earlier—if they had realized the pregnancy sooner—he might have... he swallowed hard, pushing the thought down before it could fully form. There was no turning back now. Not when Muchen was already likely three months along.

’I have to keep him safe,’ Yunfeng thought, the determination blazing quietly behind his pale green-blue eyes. ’No matter what happens, he’ll live. Both of them will.’

”Yunfeng... Yunfeng, yoo-hoo,” Hana’s voice broke through again. She reached out, tapping his arm gently. ”You were gone for a while. Are you okay?”

He blinked, refocusing on the road. The mist thickened outside, swallowing the faint outline of broken buildings and rusted street signs.

”I’m fine... it’s fine,” he murmured, voice low and rough.

Hana frowned, studying his tense expression but didn’t push further.

Yunfeng exhaled slowly, eyes fixed on the road as his mind whispered again—

’We have a doctor with us. We’ll make it. Muchen will make it. Our child will too.’
