Wu dong Qian Kun: I, Lin Langtian, Refuse to be a Supporting Character

Inside the mirror’s small world, Lin Langtian sat quietly in meditation. Intense Yuan energy surged around him, flowing like a tidal wave. In his palm hovered a drop of emerald liquid—Heart Essence Nectar.

Hiss!

The Heart Essence Nectar slowly descended into Lin Langtian’s palm, releasing a thick, life-giving energy. The vibrant green light flowed through his arm, making his entire body resemble a tree brimming with vitality. As the life force entered him, his Yuan energy surged with newfound power at an astonishing rate.

This Heart Essence Nectar was a rare treasure bestowed by Bo Xuan. Even the most advanced Sheng Xuan Realm masters coveted it. Despite the sudden rise in his Yuan energy, Lin Langtian’s power remained perfectly steady, fully within his control.

Typically, such an explosive increase in energy would cause instability, but Lin Langtian’s foundation was solid, enabling him to master the intense surge with ease. As time passed, the abundant life energy within him fully merged with his Yuan power, and the vibrant green glow gradually faded.

Yet Lin Langtian had not reached the Greater Sheng Xuan Realm. Even though he was at the peak of the Lesser Sheng Xuan Realm, a single drop of Heart Essence Nectar was still insufficient to push him over the edge.

”It seems I’m one step short. Sometimes a stable foundation can also be an obstacle to breakthrough,” he murmured.

For most cultivators, a single drop of Heart Essence Nectar would have sufficed, but Lin Langtian’s foundation was exceptionally deep. If other cultivators’ energy reserves were a bucket, his were more like a vast reservoir. In battles, this superior reserve allowed him to fight opponents of higher realms, but when it came to advancing, the same strength required him to absorb far more energy than usual.

”Today, I’ll break through to the Greater Sheng Xuan Realm!” Lin Langtian said resolutely. Although the Fire Cloud Sect was only a second-rate faction, fighting its forces, including a Lesser Death Xuan Realm master, would be challenging. Without the strength of the Greater Sheng Xuan Realm, he would have little control over the battle’s outcome.

Determined, Lin Langtian glanced around the mirror’s world, observing the surging demonic energy filling it. He had anticipated this, choosing the mirror’s small world as his breakthrough site precisely so he could draw upon this powerful energy.

His mind settled, he commanded, ”Golden Spirit Wheel Mirror, absorb the demonic energy!”

Hovering within the sea of demonic energy, Lin Langtian summoned the dark-golden mirror behind him. As it materialized, a terrifying force of suction erupted from its surface.

Whoosh!

The demonic energy within the mirror’s world, drawn by the mirror’s pull, surged toward him like a black tidal wave. This immense force could frighten even the most advanced Sheng Xuan Realm experts. Yet Lin Langtian’s smile only widened; to him, this demonic energy was perfect for powering his breakthrough.

Whoosh!

Within the mirror’s world, dark streams of demonic energy coiled around Lin Langtian like massive black serpents. The black-golden mirror expanded behind him, releasing a powerful suction that began drawing in the demonic energy.

Lin Langtian sat calmly, his mind focused as he urged the mirror to increase its pull.

Boom!

Countless streams of demonic energy flowed into the mirror, only to be swiftly absorbed by Lin Langtian’s body. His entire body began emitting an evil aura as the demonic energy coursed through him. His pores exuded black mist as the energy was absorbed directly into his body.

Hiss!

With the influx of demonic energy, Lin Langtian’s power roared like a torrent. As soon as the energy entered, his inner ”demonic seed” absorbed and refined it into pure power, infusing his body. The energy not only fueled his Yuan power but also tempered his muscles, bones, and cells, strengthening his physical body with every surge.

The demonic energy, which others would find unbearable, actually refined Lin Langtian’s body, enhancing his physical strength. As his body grew stronger, he could feel the power of the demonic seed inside him expanding and consolidating.

Buzz!

As the demonic seed swelled, Lin Langtian’s Yuan energy, previously quieted, surged anew, more powerful than ever.

Boom! Boom!

Intense Yuan power vibrated throughout his body, pressing outward with a rumbling force. Lin Langtian waved his sleeve, summoning two Sheng Xuan Spirit Fruits, which hovered before him. He absorbed their life energy, and his Yuan power swelled with renewed intensity.

His inner energy whirled like a windmill, drawing power into his dantian, where his Yuan Spirit sat, steadily absorbing the enormous influx.

Boom!

At that moment, he heard a faint breaking sound from within, like a barrier shattering. His Yuan energy burst forward, filling his senses with a vast new level of power.

He had broken through to the Greater Sheng Xuan Realm!

Using the mirror’s world and the two Sheng Xuan Spirit Fruits, Lin Langtian had crossed the threshold, finally reaching the Greater Sheng Xuan Realm. The moment his power stabilized at this new level, the demonic seed within his dantian coalesced into a black sphere, floating peacefully.

Hiss!

Lin Langtian opened his eyes, a gleam flashing through the darkness. He exhaled a puff of white air, feeling the immense power flowing within him like a raging river, yet completely under his control.

He had finally entered the Greater Sheng Xuan Realm.

Clenching his fists, Lin Langtian marveled at his newfound strength. Even without using the powers of the Demon God’s Eye, he felt confident he could now defeat Mo Ming at the peak of the Sheng Xuan Realm.

As he savored the joy of his breakthrough, a voice interrupted his thoughts. ”Someone’s coming. I believe it’s your sister Qing Tan,” his spiritual guide reminded him.

”Qing Tan?” he murmured, glancing at the time. ”It seems my breakthrough took about five days. Must be time to gather…”

Tiding himself up, he prepared to exit the mirror’s world.

”I’m here, Brother Langtian!”

As soon as he emerged, a graceful figure in a black dress entered his quarters—it was indeed Qing Tan.

”Brother Langtian, you’ve advanced!” she exclaimed, noting his heightened aura with delight.

”Thanks to Elder Bo’s Heart Essence Nectar,” he replied, looking her over and noticing her own vibrant energy. ”It seems you’ve also advanced; you’re now a Lesser Sheng Xuan Realm master,” he congratulated her warmly.

The Heart Essence Nectar was incredibly valuable. Even for Lin Langtian, it had nearly propelled him to the Greater Sheng Xuan Realm, so it didn’t surprise him that Qing Tan had advanced from the Nine Yuan Nirvana Realm.

”Did you come to summon me for the Tribunal gathering?” he asked after a bit of small talk.

”Yes, today’s the day we report to the Tribunal,” Qing Tan confirmed with a nod. She then took out two black robes and two ominous ghost masks from her storage bag.

The black robes were simple, but the masks were eerie, each with a long, black sword embedded in the forehead, exuding a menacing aura. Lin Langtian recognized the mask; every member of the Tribunal had worn one at the festival, making it clear this was the official uniform of the Tribunal.

”Brother Langtian, the Tribunal is strict about uniforms. Every member wears the same attire, and Master assigned us regular ranks, so we’ll wear these basic uniforms,” Qing Tan explained carefully, concerned that he might object.

Lin Langtian nodded in understanding. He knew this was intentional on Bo Xuan’s part, likely as part of Qing Tan’s succession training. Starting at the bottom of the Dark Hall’s hierarchy would allow her to gain the respect needed to one day inherit its leadership.

With a sigh, Lin Langtian looked at Qing Tan, her face full of determination.

To him, she had always been the sweet, innocent girl who hated rigorous training. But now, here she was, entering the Dark Tribunal, ready to stain her hands in blood.

”Qing Tan, do you regret joining the Dark Tribunal? If you do, I can take you away right now. As long as I’m around, no one will harm you,” he said seriously, watching her don her black uniform.

Her hands stilled, but after a moment, she looked up, biting her lip, her eyes misting over. ”Brother Langtian, I may not like training, but I know that you and Brother Lin Dong have worked tirelessly, risking your lives for years. I know you’re both heroes, and the world belongs to you.”

She took a breath, her resolve hardening. ”But I also know that part of why you both train so hard is to protect people like me. I want to become stronger too. Someday, I want to help both of you. Joining the Tribunal was my choice. Brother Langtian, don’t feel guilty, and don’t worry about Brother Lin Dong blaming you. I simply want to be strong enough to help.”

”You want to be strong too…” Lin Langtian murmured, feeling the pang of watching his sweet sister step into the Dark Hall’s shadowed path. Perhaps it wasn’t her fault but rather the unforgiving nature of their world.

Shaking off his melancholy, he picked up the ghost mask, placing it firmly on his face.

”Well then, if that’s your decision, I’ll respect it. From today onward, I am your loyal Shadow Guardian. With me here, no one will harm you!” he promised with a grin.

Qing Tan smiled, embracing him warmly. ”Thank you for your protection, Brother Langtian.”
