Wu dong Qian Kun: I, Lin Langtian, Refuse to be a Supporting Character

At the edge of a steep cliff within the Bloodhorn Region, a woman in an elegant black dress stood gracefully, her long, dark hair cascading down her shoulders. A gentle breeze swept through, setting her robes aflutter in a scene of otherworldly tranquility.

”Thank you for saving me,” she murmured softly after a pause, her expression conflicted.

”No need to thank me,” Lin Langtian replied, noting her complex expression. ”The Shadow Seven tried to kill me before as well; their fate is well deserved.”

The woman, Ying Xiaoxiao, turned to reveal her stunning features, her beautiful eyes glancing at him with mild curiosity. ”So, it seems you’re the Lin Langtian—the one Yang Li mentioned as his target, the one who won the Hundred Dynasty Tournament and became a personal disciple in the Yuan Gate. For someone to rise so quickly in such a competitive place, your talent is truly exceptional.”

As she observed Lin Langtian, even Ying Xiaoxiao—someone with high standards—couldn’t help but admire him. She had once been shocked to learn that the tournament’s champion came from a lower-tier dynasty, feeling it was a loss that someone of his talent didn’t join Dao Sect. And now, after witnessing him take down the Shadow Seven, her admiration grew.

This impressive talent reminded her of someone—Zhou Tong, her father’s greatest student, who had once charged into the Yuan Gate and forced its three Grand Elders to subdue him.

Thinking of Zhou Tong, Ying Xiaoxiao’s gaze clouded slightly as she spoke softly, ”But I am a disciple of Dao Sect, and you belong to Yuan Gate. You... you shouldn’t have saved me.”

Lin Langtian was taken aback, but he understood what she meant. The relationship between Dao Sect and Yuan Gate was infamous, fraught with animosity dating back a century when Dao Sect’s brightest student, Zhou Tong, had stormed the Yuan Gate, singlehandedly defeating many of its elders before the three Grand Elders intervened to suppress him.

This powerful genius had been cut down, filling Dao Sect with bitterness. The ongoing enmity led to fierce rivalries during each inter-sect competition, with Dao Sect often facing heavy losses.

Lin Langtian understood her mixed feelings—he had saved her life, yet as a disciple of Yuan Gate, he represented a force that stood against Dao Sect.

Staring into the distance, he replied quietly, ”The Yuan Gate is one thing, and I am another. I saved you simply because I felt like it—it has nothing to do with our sects. So don’t dwell on it. If we cross paths on the battlefield one day, we’ll fight without holding back.”

Although Lin Langtian harbored no particular loyalty to Yuan Gate, he couldn’t reveal his deeper intentions to Ying Xiaoxiao. Saving her had been a spur-of-the-moment decision, and seeing her inner conflict, he could only offer her this reassurance.

Ying Xiaoxiao fell silent for a moment before biting her lip and murmuring, ”Why… why didn’t you choose to join Dao Sect back then?”

Lin Langtian paused at her words. Dao Sect and Yuan Gate were simply places for him to grow, and Yuan Gate attracted him due to the Chaos Void Flame and the Spatial Ancestral Symbol it possessed. But these were things he couldn’t explain to Ying Xiaoxiao, so he simply said, ”The East Xuan Region’s sects are just stepping stones. My ambitions lie far beyond them. As for which sect to join, it hardly matters.”

”Ambitions beyond all this…” Ying Xiaoxiao echoed, taken aback by his determined gaze. She wondered if he truly aimed to surpass even the Yuan Gate’s Grand Elders. Such figures were already legends on this continent. What exactly did he seek?

Not wanting to explain further, Lin Langtian changed the subject. ”By the way, do you know of Lin Dong? He’s my cousin, and I heard he joined Dao Sect. How’s he doing?”

”Lin Dong…” Ying Xiaoxiao seemed to recall the name and replied softly, ”Yes, I remember him. He joined our Desolation Hall and has shown exceptional talent, advancing to personal disciple within just a few months.”

Lin Langtian nodded, unsurprised by his cousin’s progress. He then glanced at Ying Xiaoxiao with a faint smile. Soon, Lin Dong would find himself drawn to Ying Xiaoxiao’s remarkable younger sister, Ying Huanhuan—a relationship that would change both of their lives.

Noticing his gaze, Ying Xiaoxiao’s cheeks flushed slightly, a rare reaction for her usually composed self. After a moment, seeing his eyes still fixed on her, she bit her lip and muttered, ”What are you staring at?”

”Oh, nothing… just admiring the view,” he replied, awkwardly looking away and scratching his nose. Lost in thoughts of Lin Dong’s romantic adventures, he had forgotten Ying Xiaoxiao’s presence.

After this awkward exchange, an odd silence fell between them. Though they said nothing, a subtle tension hung in the air, adding a unique charm to their quiet moment on the cliffside.
