Wu dong Qian Kun: I, Lin Langtian, Refuse to be a Supporting Character

”Senior Brother, as a newcomer, you caused quite a stir by facing both the Nirvana Tribulation and the Wind and Thunder Tribulation at once,” Mo Tie whispered, sounding a bit worried. ”Even the seven core disciples of our Fire Division, who were in seclusion, came to check out the commotion. That man over there is Zhang Hao. He’s a well-known figure here, and very protective of his own. That Xiao Lie, the guy you nearly defeated, is one of his followers, so be cautious.”

Lin Langtian nodded slightly, understanding that factions existed even within the Fire Division, with the factions led by the seven core disciples being the most influential. By taking Xiao Lie’s spot, he knew he had likely stepped on some toes, but competition was inevitable anywhere. Besides, his aim wasn’t just to challenge an ordinary core disciple; he intended to eventually replace the Fire Division’s Spirit General himself.

Suddenly, a whoosh sounded through the air as Fengcang and Yanba appeared on the platform. All the Fire Division disciples quickly bowed in greeting, even the seven core disciples showing a hint of respect. Yuan Gate’s rules enforced a strict hierarchy, and every disciple in the Fire Division showed deep reverence for these two leaders.

”Oh, you practice spiritual power as well? Handling both the Nirvana and Wind and Thunder Tribulations simultaneously may look impressive, but it’s overly ambitious and will only restrict you in the future,” Fengcang said, eyeing Lin Langtian critically.

In his view, Lin Langtian’s achievements, like winning the Hundred Dynasty Tournament and enduring the intense trials of the Fire River Baptism to reach the Seventh Nirvana Level, showed considerable talent. With proper guidance, Lin Langtian could bring honor to the Fire Division. For this reason, Fengcang uncharacteristically offered some advice.

Lin Langtian paused, but then, with a slight smile, replied politely, ”Thank you, Division Leader, for your guidance. I will focus entirely on training my elemental energy.”

Because the barriers of the Fire River prevented others from observing his tribulations closely, Fengcang had no idea that Lin Langtian had actually survived five levels of the Wind and Thunder Tribulation at once. Lin Langtian wasn’t about to clarify, either; he knew that standing out too soon would only draw unwanted attention. He was still building his strength in secret, so avoiding excessive interest was best for now.

Seeing that Lin Langtian had accepted his advice, Fengcang nodded approvingly. As the Fire Division’s leader, he relished having control, and the respect shown to him by the disciples was something he enjoyed.

After a thoughtful pause, Fengcang spoke. ”With your achievements, even though you’re still new, you qualify for promotion to core disciple. As a core disciple, you’re also now eligible to study the pinnacle of our Fire Division’s martial arts: the Flame Emperor Tome!”

”The Flame Emperor Tome?” Lin Langtian repeated, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.

”Oh, so you haven’t heard of it yet?” Fengcang was mildly taken aback but continued calmly, ”Yuan Gate, as the leading super faction in the Eastern Profound Region, has a vast array of high-level techniques, more than any other of the eight super factions. It’s the foundation of our strength.

”For instance, the Taoist Sect has its Four Divine Scriptures, though the three commonly used techniques are all it truly relies on, as their most powerful scripture, the Great Desolation Scripture, is rarely fully understood. Only a handful in the entire Taoist Sect’s history have ever mastered it. But Yuan Gate, we possess not only the Three Great Supreme Teachings of our Grandmasters, but also eight elite division techniques.

”The Thunder Emperor Tome, the Spirit Emperor Tome, and the Origin Emperor Tome are techniques reserved for our Grandmasters and their disciples, the three young kings of Yuan Gate. They are renowned throughout the land, though ordinary disciples never get to study them. But our Fire Division has its own elite technique, the Flame Emperor Tome. Just its name alone commands respect, don’t you think?”

Fengcang paused, letting the awe build, before continuing, ”When Yuan Gate was first established, the Flame Emperor Tome was on par with the Three Great Supreme Teachings, and back then, the Fire Division was considered the strongest of the eight. But due to the gradual loss of our flame source, and the inability to use the Chaotic Demon Flame as a substitute, the Tome’s power declined, and it eventually became just one of our eight standard techniques.”

”Flame Emperor Tome… and the loss of the flame source…” Lin Langtian murmured, the realization dawning on him.

It was clear that this Tome must have been an incredibly powerful martial art, but it required a powerful flame source to cultivate. Over time, the Fire Division’s flame source had dwindled, and without the Chaotic Demon Flame as a viable substitute, the Tome’s power had declined.

But as Lin Langtian considered his Vermilion Bird Scorching Flame, his eyes began to gleam—this Tome could be a perfect fit for him!

Gasps of excitement spread across the platform, and disciples looked at Lin Langtian with envy. In the Fire Division, disciples were divided into four ranks: entry-level disciples, regular disciples, core disciples, and, at the top, core elite disciples. The Fire Division had over ten thousand entry-level disciples, five thousand regular disciples, five hundred core disciples, but only seven core elite disciples.

Clearly, the status of a core elite disciple was rare and highly prestigious!

Most importantly, only core elite disciples could study the Flame Emperor Tome, the Fire Division’s ultimate martial art. Many disciples sacrificed countless hours of grueling training in the hopes of attaining this position. And yet Lin Langtian, in less than half a month, was already being promoted directly to core elite disciple. The news left others in awe, even as envy flickered in their eyes.

Though regular disciples dared not complain, this wasn’t the case for everyone. Among those with the courage to voice objections were some of the core elite disciples.

”Thank you, Division Leader!” Lin Langtian said, taking a step forward and bowing in gratitude. But as he spoke, a loud voice rang out from behind him.

”Wait!”

All eyes turned to see Zhang Hao, dressed in a red robe, arms crossed, and his cold gaze fixed on Lin Langtian. A powerful surge of energy emanated from him, filling the air with tension.

”Division Leader,” Zhang Hao said respectfully, ”the position of core elite disciple is essential to the Fire Division and should not be given lightly.”
