Back to the 1980s: Becoming the Villain's Lucky Wife

While eating ribs, Li Man remarked to her, ”Oh, so you two just met? I thought you’d known each other for a long time.”

”Of course not!”

Qin Jiao smiled from the side. ”He seems very methodical in the way he speaks and does things. Did he study law, too?”

”Yes, he studied law, too. And now he works at the Education Bureau.”

Qin Jiao’s hand paused for a moment.

’She was reminded of Gao Yuan.’

But with so many people at the table, Qin Jiao didn’t say anything more. 「The next day」, when she went to the restaurant, she had someone call Sun Lili to her office.

Despite the controversy from that recent incident, the restaurant hadn’t been at fault, so business wasn’t affected.

It was just that some people had minor complaints, feeling that having security cameras in a place where they ate meant they had no privacy.

Qin Jiao would smile and tell those people that this was also a form of self-supervision for the restaurant. ”We make everything transparent so you know the food is safe. Doesn’t that give you more peace of mind when you eat?”

The more reasonable people understood immediately. It was a double-edged sword, supervising both parties while also protecting them.

So, after the incident, business at the Jiuyi Tea Restaurant only got better and better.

As the manager, Sun Lili was incredibly busy. When Qin Jiao called for her, she said, ”Boss, what is it? Please say it quick, I have to get back to work.”

Qin Jiao walked over and closed the office door. ”I just want you to help me ask about someone,” she said.

”Who is it?”

”Your boyfriend works at the Education Bureau, right? My cousin is seeing someone who seems to work there, too. I want to find out a bit about the man’s character.”

At the mention of her own boyfriend, Sun Lili grew awkward and said it wasn’t a done deal yet. But when she heard this was about Qin Jiao’s cousin’s boyfriend, she immediately said, ”No problem, leave it to me!”

”Okay. The man is divorced and has a child. My cousin doesn’t dare tell her family yet, so I want to get a sense of his character first.”

Qin Jiao always felt that something was off about that Gao Yuan, but on the surface, he seemed absolutely flawless.

But the more perfect he seemed, the more uneasy Qin Jiao felt.

Sun Lili might seem boisterous, but she was steady and reliable when it came to getting things done. She left, returned to her own office, and called her blind date, Wang Linsheng.

”Wang Linsheng, do you have someone named Gao Yuan at your workplace?”

”We do. Why?”

”He’s dating someone, isn’t he? Her older cousin is a friend of mine, and I’m helping her ask about his character.”

Wang Linsheng, who was holding the phone, breathed a sigh of relief when he heard her say that.

’He’d thought Sun Lili had taken a liking to Gao Yuan.’

He said, ”What a coincidence. Gao Yuan is in my office. He was just transferred over from a vocational college. He’s a very down-to-earth and steady guy. I think he was probably married before.”

”So, you’re saying you haven’t known him for long, either?”

”Not long. He wasn’t in this department before.”

Sun Lili was a little disappointed, feeling she hadn’t managed to get any useful information for Qin Jiao. She said, ”Well, in that case, can you keep an eye on him for me? I’m mainly concerned about his character.”

”Sure,” Wang Linsheng agreed without hesitation. Then, he added with a slight smile, ”Lili, does this mean we’re officially dating now?”

”...No. We’re just friends. That’s all, I’m busy!” With that, Sun Lili abruptly hung up the phone.

’So she needs my help when it’s convenient, but we’re ”just friends” when it’s not.’
