Chapter 59 – 58: Pharmacist Abel

Rein’s complexion changed, but upon closer consideration, he was not very panicked in his heart.

For the color of the wound did not darken or show any other reaction, suggesting that the poison was not very potent.

Moreover, he had always kept 1 attribute point in reserve.

Exactly for times like this!

Without delay, Rein added this one attribute point to his constitution.

Instantly, a warm current surged from his heart, filling Rein with new strength and erasing the dizziness he had just experienced.

This immediately brought a sense of stability to Rein’s mind.

However, the sensation in the area of the wound had not returned, indicating that the poison was still present!

It seemed that adding the point was more like refreshing the state of his body, but the poison in the wound was still threading its way deeper into his system.

Rein immediately seized the time to move forward, first lifting the corpse of the assassin with the tip of his sword to confirm that the man had indeed ceased breathing, then he quickly began to search the body.

Generally speaking, since the assassin had used poison, he must have carried both poison and antidote on him, though of course, there might not be an antidote for the specific poison that had just affected Rein, but it was likely that the assassin had the same poison.

Therefore, if Rein could find the poison that had affected him on the assassin’s body, he might be able to understand what poison it was, which would make it much easier to deal with afterward.

A few seconds later, Rein was dumbfounded!

He saw that in the assassin’s belt pouch, he had turned up seven or eight bottles and jars of different colors, but the problem was, none of these bottles and jars bore any labels.

It appeared that the assassin relied on differences such as color and the shape of the bottle to remember which kind of poison or antidote was inside each one.

After a moment of thought, Rein seemed to come up with an idea.

Immediately, Rein no longer took the time to look closely but dragged the assassin’s body behind a large rock and took all the bottles, jars, dagger, and the money pouch, and hurried towards the town.

Turning left and right, Rein quickly arrived at the door of a shop marked with the signs of herbs and reagents.

The shop was named Abel’s Pharmacy.

The owner of the pharmacy was named Abel, a middle-aged man around forty, tall and thin, who was usually silent and hardly appeared in front of the townsfolk, spending his time alone fiddling with his concoctions in the pharmacy.

At first, the townspeople called him ‘Oddball’ Abel.

But later on, as the residents of Flashgold Town gradually realized that the potions Abel crafted were more effective than those from other places and were also slightly cheaper than similar potions on the market, their perception of him improved markedly.

No longer did they refer to him as ‘Oddball’ Abel; instead, they respectfully called him Pharmacist Abel or Mr. Abel.

Additionally, there was a curious incident to mention: ever since Abel demonstrated his extraordinary knowledge in potion-making, Molly, the eighteen or nineteen-year-old beautiful daughter of the tailor shop owner next to the pharmacy, began to fall in love with Abel, the nearly forty-year-old bachelor!

This matter initially astonished the people of Flashgold Town, but upon further reflection, they realized that apart from immersing himself in potion research, Abel had no vices such as gambling or drinking and seemed to be indeed a fine man for fostering a family.

The residents who came to this understanding envied Molly for her discernment, and the couple has now been married for half a year.

Rein had come here not to buy potions but to seek the help of Abel, proficient in potion studies, to identify which bottle contained the correct antidote.

After all, professional matters should be left to professionals.

As for what Abel might perceive?

At a time like this, who would care about such a thing?

Preserving one’s life was of the utmost importance!

Moreover, since Abel was always reserved and hardly spoke, Rein wasn’t too worried that this apothecary would spread rumors about him.

When Rein reached Abel’s Pharmacy, that sensation of dizziness had started to bother him again.

However, it did seem a bit better than just now.

He didn’t know whether it was because his constitution had grown stronger, or because the potency of the poison had started to wane.

It seemed that adding attribute points could only restore all of his physical energy, but it couldn’t dispel this adverse condition!

He still needed an antidote.

As he walked into the pharmacy, the owner Abel was not there; instead, his newlywed wife Molly sat behind the counter.

Rein was well aware that the expertise in potions lay with Abel, not with the woman in front of him.

In fact, this young bride only knew the names and prices of each potion.

Rein hesitated for a moment then quickly stepped forward and asked,

“Molly, is Mr. Abel here?”

“Oh, if it isn’t little Rein, you’ve grown taller and even more handsome. As for Abel, the new marshal has called for him; he should be over at the town administrative office. What’s the matter, do you need something?” Molly said with a smile, standing up to greet Rein.

Both having grown up in Flashgold Town, Molly and Rein had known each other for a long time.

“Um… just a small issue. The marshal? Then I’ll go find Mr. Abel at the town administrative office. Goodbye, Molly.” Rein waved his hand and quickly left the pharmacy, heading towards the administrative office.

“Hey, Rein, you could wait…” Molly shook her head as she watched Rein hurry away, unable to understand why he was in such a rush.

Soon, Rein arrived at the town administrative office and after asking the guards, he quickly found out the answer.

Indeed, Molly was right; Abel was here, currently in Hamilton’s office.

“Knock, knock, knock!”

“Come in!”

So, before long, Rein was back in Hamilton’s office again.

Upon entering the office, he saw Abel, clad in a black robe, standing next to Hamilton, apparently examining the knight’s injuries.

This caused Rein to pause for a moment, but then a slight smile appeared on his face.

This just proved that Abel’s medical skills were very high since even the injuries of an official knight like Hamilton were being treated by him. Rein thought confidently that the poison afflicting his own body would be no trouble at all.

“Eh! Rein, why have you come back?” Hamilton asked, looking puzzled.

Rein didn’t answer directly, but he tilted his head slightly to glance at Pharmacist Abel, then turned his gaze back to Hamilton.

Hamilton instantly understood and waved his hand, saying, “It’s fine, Rein, just say what you need to. Abel is an old friend of mine!”

Rein nodded and said, “I was just attacked by an assassin and poisoned!”

“What?!” Hamilton immediately stood up from his chair, his eyes wide as he stared at Rein, clearly shocked by the news.

And Abel, normally so stoic, also looked at Rein with surprise on his face, as if to say, ‘You a kid, and yet there are assassins out to kill you?’

Rein didn’t continue to explain, but instead stepped forward and with a rustle, he placed all the bottles and jars he had been carrying onto Hamilton’s spacious desk.

After thinking for a moment, Rein also took out the black dagger and placed it on the desk as well.

Now, Hamilton fell silent too.

He exchanged a look with Abel, both seeing surprise in the other’s eyes.

But at that moment, both knew that Rein had not lied.
