Chapter 57 – 56: Bounty Hunters’ Badge

“`

You should know that even the famous NBA star O’Neal was only about two meters twenty tall and weighed three to four hundred pounds.

The ogre’s heavy weapon could even cause shock damage to a knight’s flesh through plate armor.

“Moreover, ogres like to gather creatures such as gnolls and jackalweres as their followers. When ogres attack human villages, these scoundrels will also come to get their share!”

Rein nodded his head. No wonder, he finally understood why Hamilton placed such great importance on ogres.

It turned out that the opponent was not only formidable when fighting alone but also called upon a bunch of ‘lackeys’ as followers.

“Erm, Lord Hamilton, can’t we set a trap and then lure the ogre into it for an ambush? Why do we have to fight the ogre head-on?” This was also the point that Rein could not fathom.

After all, it was by learning to use tools that humans could kill large beasts.

Hamilton shook his head and said,

“Digging traps works against ordinary wild beasts, but for ogres, they have strong danger perception and can easily detect and avoid traps. Trying to defeat them with traps is utterly outlandish.”

“The same goes for ferocious wild beasts; they all possess extremely strong danger perception abilities.”

“So, facing them, there aren’t many cunning methods available. Humans can only rely on their own transcendental strength,” Hamilton explained.

This revelation stunned Rein!

Ogres were so difficult to deal with that once they launched an attack on human settlements, they often caused significant casualties.

For the local sheriff, the appearance of an ogre was a very serious security risk within his jurisdiction.

Moreover, Rein finally understood why knights held such a high status in this world.

Because in a world that so heavily relied on individual high-end combat power, knights with formidable strength were the cornerstone of social stability.

“Alright, enough about ogres. Rein, I have something here that you will definitely like.”

Upon hearing Hamilton’s words, Rein showed curiosity.

“I just got it myself too.” Hamilton took out a circular badge from the drawer, larger than a Gold Coin by one round, and handed it to Rein.

Rein took it carefully and began to inspect it closely.

Once in hand, the badge gave Rein a hefty feeling, and judging by the material, it seemed to be made of copper.

It appeared to be mixed with a small amount of other metals, looking much like gold but duller, with a very beautiful luster.

On the front was the head of a howling running wolf, with sharp fangs and ferocious eyes vividly engraved.

On the back, it said Rein Carlan, Flashgold Town, Meister County, and a long string of numbers.

“This is the badge of a junior Bounty Hunter. With this, you can carry weapons with you whenever you leave the house,” Hamilton finally revealed.

“So this is the Bounty Hunter badge, but how did it come so quickly?” Rein’s eyes flashed with joy.

“Haha, Rein, you’re in luck. When your application was submitted, it just hit the time node, otherwise, you would have to wait at least another month,” Hamilton said with a slight smile.

Rein nodded his head, it seemed his luck was indeed good.

With the Bounty Hunter badge, he could carry weapons with him, which would definitely be more secure.

And not have to use a hammer to deal with thugs like before!

However, having the ‘Hammer Expertise’ skill and keeping a hammer as a backup didn’t seem like a bad idea.

Rein suddenly became thoughtful.

…

Before long.

After leaving Hamilton’s office, Rein continued to wrap his Dual-Handed Greatsword in a large piece of sheepskin, then slung it over his shoulder and prepared to head home.

Even now with the Bounty Hunter badge, Rein did not wish to show off.

Be humble in life, but high-profile in actions!

“`

“Rein, wait a moment.” Weilun approached with a face full of joy.

“Captain Weilun, what is it?”

“Here! This is your share of the spoils. The quartermaster has just finished assessing it.” Weilun said with a smile, handing a cloth bag to Rein.

“Such efficiency? Truly admirable!” Rein said with a smile as well.

Rein weighed the cloth bag Weilun had handed him, and a look of surprise crossed his face.

Upon opening it, his suspicions were confirmed.

“Why so much?”

Rein’s surprise was not without reason, for there were ten Empire Gold Coins inside.

“The quartermaster determined your share of the loot to be 20 gold and 9 silver, so I just gave you 10 gold, and I rounded off the change. You don’t mind, do you?” Captain Weilun said with a beaming smile.

“Of course not!”

“No! I mean, it seems like too much for me.” Rein earnestly said.

“You deserve it! Now, you go on home. I have to find the others and distribute the money.” Weilun patted Rein’s shoulder, not giving him a chance to refuse any longer.

“Thank you, Captain Weilun. Goodbye.”

After watching Weilun leave, Rein joyfully tucked the money pouch carefully into his chest to keep it safe.

At that moment, his hand brushed against that peculiar ore.

“How about taking a detour to the blacksmith’s shop now and ask Boris what kind of ore this actually is?”

“Forget it, I should just go home first; it’s not urgent at this moment.”

Rein looked up at the ever-darkening sky and abandoned his plan of going to the blacksmith, heading directly towards his home instead.

By now, ‘Poison Dagger’ had already arrived near Rein’s home, completed the survey of the terrain, and confirmed through observation that Rein had not yet returned home.

Then, ‘Poison Dagger’ began to make preparations.

As an assassin, a job was just a job, and ‘Poison Dagger’ never allowed personal feelings to get in the way of his work.

Therefore, when his dagger aimed for the necks of children, young women, noble ladies, or the elderly, he didn’t hesitate in the slightest.

His sharp dagger also ensured that his victims left this world without much pain.

‘Poison Dagger’ believed this was the greatest mercy he could offer.

Since the client had another requirement, which was to make the death look like an accident as much as possible, he also had a full plan in place for that.

At that moment, he was applying poison to his “Black Spike” dagger, a poison that caused paralysis and dizziness.

He planned to strike the target once and then drag him into the nearby woods.

After that, he would draw some blood from the victim. The scent of blood would quickly attract wild animals. By the time people discovered the young man’s remains several days later, they would assume he had wandered into the woods and been attacked by beasts.

It seemed… not quite perfect.

But the money given by the client was only enough for him to do so much.

‘Poison Dagger’ didn’t plan on putting in any more effort.

After arranging everything, ‘Poison Dagger’ stood patiently in a dark alley, his gaze fixed ahead, quietly waiting for his target to arrive.

….

“Ah! This must be it!”

‘Poison Dagger’ looked pleased; once he had seen a person’s portrait, he almost never made a mistake. He was confident that the young man approaching from afar was Rein, his target for the assassination.

Therefore, he stepped briskly out of the alley and walked towards Rein.
