Chapter 551: Chapter 281: Mermaid (Part 2)

”A month ago, there was an anomaly in the east. I planned to check it out, but the place seemed too far, so I didn’t go. However, this led me to discover something interesting.”

The Guard Brigade smiled as he spoke, walking out of the Teleportation Array.

This was a small town, with many of its people full of vigilance in their eyes. They didn’t approach the Teleportation Tower, but their gazes towards it were filled with a bit of longing.

However, when they saw two warriors wearing silver armor, a hint of dread appeared in their eyes.

What they feared wasn’t these two bronze middle-tiered warriors, but the Barretts in their hands—those things could take down a silver powerhouse in one shot, and their names were infamous in every settlement.

It was said to be made by a powerful alchemist named Baiyi.

This is also why some powerful outsiders dare not attempt to seize it, as the tower represented a behemoth.

”What’s interesting?” Demacia asked, curious.

Ignoring the gazes around them, the players were accustomed to these looks. If it weren’t for the Federation’s new laws protecting these gathered people, they would’ve faced the players’ iron heel.

After all, they were also an intelligent race of Xia, and the Federation gave everyone a chance.

As long as they learned the Dawn language, studied Dawn law, and had a certain talent, they could become legal residents of Dawn.

Of course, they could also establish their own kingdom, and as long as they succeeded, the Federation wouldn’t hesitate to offer some help.

The same goes for the saying that ancient gods, evil gods, and the abyss belong to evil dimensions outside of Xia, while these disorderly intelligent races are always a part of Xia.

As long as there’s enough order, aren’t these just seeds of order?

”Shh, I’ll send it to you. Later, let’s do a video chat; communicate through chat software.” the Guard Brigade said, sending what he discovered to Demacia.

Demacia opened the video and froze for a moment: ”WTF... uh...” [Mermaid!!!]

The Guard Brigade looked around, quickened his pace, and Demacia immediately followed.

The two quickly left the gathered place, moving swiftly towards the wild.

The Guard Brigade: [It’s indeed a mermaid. I checked their information. Mermaids are descendants of sea sirens and other sea creatures. Similar ones include merfolk and sea serpent people...]

Demacia: [Wait, descendants of sea creatures? Aren’t mermaids descendants of humans and fish? Look at it, beautiful people and fish, it literally says so!]

The Guard Brigade: [....]

The Guard Brigade: [That’s our Blue Star’s perspective. Hybridization between humans and sea creatures does occur, like this one, this one, and this one.]

Demacia opened the images, his mouth twitched, seeing merfolk with scales all over their bodies, octopus-like mermaids with many tentacles, and Sharkmen with blue hard shells and shark heads for hands....

Demacia: [Suddenly, I understand why ’beautiful’ is added to mermaid. Indeed, only bizarre forms make sense in this context.]

The Guard Brigade: [The place where this mermaid is requires a charm value of over fifty. In the entire player base, only you meet that.]

Demacia: [(Smug dog head emote), of course, it has to be me!]

The Guard Brigade: [Ah, yes, everything you said is right, we’re almost there.]

Demacia: [Hiss~ It’s really close to Dongwu City...]

The Guard Brigade: [According to the scene from a month ago in the Land of the Far East, there was the sea, and now with the appearance of mermaids, it might be the real main storyline, maybe even.... the main storyline of the next version!]

Demacia: [!!!? Next version?]

The Guard Brigade: [Just a guess, this game is too realistic. We’re here; try to be friendly. If it doesn’t work, contact Baiyi. He should be interested in matters regarding the Sea Race.]

Demacia: [Leave it to me!]

He confidently approached a cave. With little effort, he passed through a thin film, seeing the Guard Brigade left outside, he and the Guard Brigade started a video chat.

Adjusting his viewpoint, Demacia raised his eyebrows and turned to walk inside.

The sound of rushing water filled the space, resembling a cavern but with the end in sight.

This was also why the Guard Brigade could capture footage of the mermaid.

Sometimes, lacking mystery was safer in the wild.

Demacia approached a stream leading underground, his face trying to appear as kind as possible.

”Hello, anyone there.... any mermaids? I’m here to help you.”

The Guard Brigade: [.... Be serious! That mermaid is just a kid; don’t look like a creepy uncle!]

Demacia’s mouth twitched: [You’re the creepy one, your whole family is creepy, shut up, watch my performance.]

Demacia took out a fruit with a peculiar fragrance, approaching the stream, cautiously slicing the peel, and a bit of green liquid flowed into the stream.

The whole creek emitted a faint green glow, with a slight power of life rising from the stream.

Plop plop~

Some small fish seemed to sense the life qi, continually leaping up, trying to approach the fruit, only to be washed away by the swift current.

This fruit was worth five gold coins each, famous for its life force, not only capable of healing but also accelerating the growth of plant species.

Demacia felt a bit uneasy; if that little mermaid didn’t come out, he’d be at a loss!

The Guard Brigade: [Look downstream, the far corner.]

Demacia hesitated momentarily, slowly turning his head, locking eyes with a gaze filled with curiosity mixed with intense fear.

Whoosh~

In an instant, that little head quickly ducked back into the underground water along the stream.

Demacia: .... [Am I that scary? Dude, I have a charm value close to sixty!]

The Guard Brigade: [Underage, understand a bit, but you can try offering more of that fruit; there’s a high possibility this mermaid is injured.]

Demacia: [....]

Demacia: [You buy them; these things cost five gold coins each, and I don’t have a space ring. I only have two with me.]

The Guard Brigade: [Okay, be right back.]

Not seeing any more replies from the Guard Brigade, Demacia pondered for a moment and stopped juicing the fruit; instead, he threw the fruit directly into the stream, and it was instantly rushed downstream by the rapid water flow.

Demacia smiled and said, ”Don’t be afraid, I’m a good person here to help you; otherwise, I wouldn’t have gotten through the barrier, right? I have fruit here, take some.”

As he spoke, he placed another fruit in the creek, which was carried downstream by the current.

It was unclear whether his words had an effect or it was the fruit’s allure.

At the junction of the underground water and the creek, a small head reappeared. When the fruit floated beside her, she cautiously touched it, then quickly grabbed both fruits and retreated back underwater.

Demacia maintained what he believed to be a gentle smile, waiting quietly.

About ten minutes later: [Come out and take it.]

Demacia turned and jogged out.

His movements startled the mermaid hiding in the shadows. She shrank back slightly, then cautiously peeked at Demacia’s retreating figure, the fear in her eyes gradually replaced by curiosity.

[Who are you trying to stuff to the brim?]

Demacia’s mouth twitched at the scene before him, a large basket containing at least a hundred fruits. The mermaid looked like a child around seven or eight years old, this....

The Guard Brigade: [Never mind, you have more than enough; I have a feeling this mermaid can definitely bring a major quest.]

[Good,] Demacia was instantly delighted, exiting the barrier, lifting the huge basket and heading back.

”You like fruits, right? These are all yours, eat as much as you like.”

Demacia smiled, taking out a fruit, placing it in the creek, letting it float downstream.

Just as it was about to drop into the underground water, a tender white hand swiftly extended from the shadows, grabbing the fruit before retreating back into the shadows.

Demacia’s smile deepened: ”Don’t rush, take your time, I have plenty more here.”

Demacia continued placing the fruits one by one. The little hand would disappear and reappear, resembling a squirrel storing supplies, it was quite cute.

Demacia wanted to tease this little mermaid, placing two fruits at once,

Whoosh whoosh~

Two hands swiftly appeared, grabbing the fruits, then gradually disappearing.

Demacia chuckled, placing two more fruits.

Whoosh whoosh~

Place!

Grab!

Place!

Grab!

The Guard Brigade: [There’s an anomaly, dump them all!]

Demacia hesitated momentarily; though he didn’t understand why, he trusted the Guard Brigade and dumped over fifty remaining fruits all at once.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh....

Demacia widened his eyes, staring at the bottom of the creek, suddenly seeing a dozen tiny hands and many adorably cute little heads, leaving him utterly stunned.

[So many mermaids, all juveniles! Hiss~ what’s going on?]

[There might be a mermaid colony in the sea... possibly gone! Try to communicate with them and see if you need to contact Baiyi...]
