Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

Holly Wood hadn’t gone to work for over a week, staying at the hospital to care for Mrs. Lynch, whose health had gradually recovered.

Although Mrs. Lynch still didn’t give Holly a pleasant look, she was ultimately much better than before.

When Leon Lynch came to the hospital room, Mrs. Lynch had just finished lunch.

Seeing the smile on his face and his vibrant energy, she was quite surprised. ”What are you so happy about?”

Leon didn’t want to hide it. ”Nora rescued her mother.”

”Rescued her from where?”

”Grestin,” Leon said with a cheerful laugh. ”Oh, by the way, Holly and I have also gotten our marriage certificate. I’ve prepared everything and will go to my mother-in-law’s house to formally propose later. Mom, why don’t you pick a wedding date for us?”

Seeing her son speaking so pleasantly, Mrs. Lynch didn’t want to spoil his mood. ”Then let’s go with the sixth of next month. It’s not many days away. The sixth of May isn’t too hot, either.”

”Great, we’ll do as you say, Mom. Mom, Holly and I will head out first. I’ll have Holly come back a little later.”

”Alright.”

Leon Lynch led Holly Wood out of the hospital by the hand. After they got in the car, he turned to her and said, ”Don’t be angry about what I said in the hospital. I see Nora as family now.”

Holly chuckled lightly. ”You’re overthinking it. I understand all of that.”

”That’s good.” He put on his Bluetooth headset, turned it on, and said, ”Let’s go.”

Then he turned off the headset and drove toward Prosperity District in Westgate.

When they arrived at the foot of her apartment building, Holly asked casually, ”What’s your betrothal gift?”

”8.88 million in cash, the traditional gold jewelry, a car full of gifts, and I’ll buy you a diamond ring for the wedding.”

Holly was dumbfounded. ”8.88 million in cash? Leon, you really don’t have to give so much. Around here, a betrothal gift of even tens of thousands is considered an astronomical price...”

He raised a hand and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. ”Silly girl. I’ve only ever heard people complain about getting too little, never too much. And this is already on the low side. I don’t even have to guess how much the betrothal gift will be when Nora and Quentin Grant get married. Besides, your mother raised you all these years. You’re worth so much more than that money; you’re priceless. This place you’re living in isn’t suitable. With this money, your mom can get a better house and live more comfortably. As her son-in-law, that would put my mind at ease.”

Holly’s eyes reddened. ”Leon, really, I’m not after your money. I’m just after you...”

Leon smiled. ”Who said you’re after my money? I can judge for myself whether you are or not. No one is saying that, so don’t feel burdened. We’re a married couple now. My money is your money.”

Holly was so moved she didn’t know what to say. She was truly attracted to Leon Lynch’s character. Besides, she knew her own situation very well. ”You should keep your money safe. What I earn from my job is enough for me.”

He tapped her on the nose. ”Before we were married, fine. But now that we are, I won’t allow you to keep working as a cleaner. Your job now is to prepare for pregnancy and have a baby. A boy or a girl, either is fine.”

Holly lowered her head. ”Okay.”

The two of them got out of the car. Leon led Holly to the building entrance, and they went upstairs.

The Wood parents had just finished their meal. Seeing them return suddenly, they immediately asked, ”Have you eaten? If not, I’ll go cook now.”

Holly spoke up, ”We’ve eaten, Mom. You don’t need to trouble yourself. Leon and I came back today for the formal proposal.”

Hearing this, Mrs. Wood pointed to the sofa. ”Quick, sit down.”

Leon and Holly sat down. ”Mom, I’ve come today to formally propose. Even though we already have our marriage certificate, we won’t skip any of the proper formalities.”

”Alright.”

Just then, bodyguards from the Lynch Family brought in two large duffel bags, followed by box after box of food items.

The Wood parents looked at the two bags, stuffed to the brim, and asked in surprise, ”What is this?”

”This is 8.88 million in cash. The betrothal gift.”

The Wood parents’ faces were instantly filled with shock, as if they had misheard. ”What?!”

Leon smiled. ”Mom, you and Dad have been renting this place for a long time and don’t have a house of your own. I’d like you to use this money to buy a house. Keth isn’t a little kid anymore either. In seven or eight years, he’ll need to get married, and he’ll need a house to get a wife. This money is enough to buy two very nice apartments in a suburban complex. There will even be some left over after renovations. When your lives are better, Holly and I will be at ease.”

The Wood parents were so excited they were at a loss for words. Mr. Wood quickly got up to pour tea, while Mrs. Wood was so moved she started to cry. ”Leon, you’re so thoughtful toward our family. Mom really doesn’t know what to say.”

”You don’t have to say anything, Mom. Later, I’ll go with you to look at apartments. Once you buy one, you should move in as soon as possible. Keth should study hard abroad. It doesn’t matter if he succeeds academically or not. If he does, great. If not, you two can just start a small business.”

Mrs. Wood nodded, filled with emotion. ”I hope you don’t mind me saying this, but his father and I were kicked out of the family home when we were young. Her grandparents had another son—her uncle—who became wealthy through business. We weren’t as successful, so we had to take odd jobs, earning just a little each month. I raised Holly and Keth all by myself. Their grandmother said she wouldn’t babysit unless we paid her, so she never did. Now she lives with their second uncle. We used to live in a single room in an old outbuilding on my mother-in-law’s property. But after their uncle got married, he tore it down to rebuild and threw us out. We’ve been renting ever since. Owning our own home has been my lifelong dream, but dreams are one thing, and reality is another...”

Recalling the past, Mrs. Wood still felt a deep sense of bitterness.

Holly put an arm around her mother’s shoulders to comfort her.

”It’s alright, everything is better now. How about this: I won’t go to the office this afternoon. I’ll take you to look at apartments, alright? Holly and I will be staying at my place.”

”Okay.”

Mr. Wood handed the tea to Leon. Leon placed it on the table, stood up, and went downstairs with the three members of the Wood family, taking the money with them.

They got in the car, and Leon drove to a new residential complex in the suburbs.

A real estate agent took them up to see the apartments. In the end, after looking at two buildings,

they decided on two units, paying four million in cash on the spot.

Both were registered under the names of the Wood parents.

After the purchase, Leon immediately contacted a renovation company and requested that both apartments be decorated.

After all this was done, the hearts of the two Wood elders were completely won over. They secretly felt that their daughter would surely live a happy life with him, and they could finally rest assured.

Finally, Leon deposited the remaining money into Mrs. Wood’s account, repeatedly warning them not to reveal to anyone that they had such a large sum of money, to avoid any trouble.

Mrs. Wood naturally understood. Leon drove them back to Prosperity District.

Just as the car entered the complex, they saw June Walsh and her parents standing at the building entrance from a distance.

”What are they doing here?”

An ominous feeling arose in Mrs. Wood’s heart. ”Could it be...”

Holly looked back. ”Let’s see what they want.”

The car stopped. June Walsh stepped forward and tapped on the car window. Leon got out, his gaze sharp as he stared at her. ”What do you want?”

June was a little uncomfortable. ”Nothing.”

When Mrs. Walsh saw the Wood parents get out, she immediately became emotional. ”Keth’s mother, my daughter is pregnant! What are you going to do about it?!”

Mrs. Wood sneered. ”Your daughter set a trap for my son to fall into. She started this, so she should have thought of the consequences. Now she can pay the price herself!”

”Your whole family are bullies!” June’s father was also furious. ”My daughter is in this state, you have to take responsibility!”

”Our Keth will absolutely not marry your June. I can see it clearly now. If we were to bring your June into our family, it would be a true disaster for us. So, if you want to abort the child, we will compensate you. If you don’t, then you can give birth to it and raise it yourself.”

Mrs. Wood laid out her terms.

This infuriated June Walsh’s parents. ”Then I’ll sue your son for raping my daughter.”

Holly sneered. ”If you’re talking about rape, June is an adult, and my brother is only fourteen or fifteen. Besides, we have solid evidence that it was your daughter who orchestrated the whole thing.”

June Walsh stepped forward. ”So you don’t want this child, is that right?”

”We don’t.”

June seemed to have made a ruthless decision. ”Fine, then. I’ll give birth to it!”

She turned to her parents. ”Let’s go.”

”Wait,” Holly called out.

”What else is there?”

”You’re still very young, June. I really don’t see what good this will do you. Not only did you set up my brother, but you deliberately got yourself pregnant with the goal of marrying him. He’s just a kid, and he’s made it clear he doesn’t like you. Have you thought about your own future at all?”

A resolute sneer appeared in June Walsh’s eyes. ”That’s none of your business!”

”If you’re that insistent, then I have nothing more to say.”

The excitement from buying the apartments was completely washed away by the news brought by June Walsh’s family.

Leon spoke up. ”The apartments are in Mom and Dad’s names anyway. If she wants to play it this way, we just have to be tougher than them. Don’t worry about it. At worst, she can be self-destructive and have the baby, and then we can fight for custody.”

Hearing this, Mrs. Wood sighed. ”June doesn’t even like Keth, and Keth doesn’t like her. Why is she going to all this trouble?”

”Mom, Dad, someone is definitely backing her. They’re targeting Holly and me. Don’t you worry. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. Once the apartments are renovated, you can move in. The security at that complex is better. Just tell the guards not to let her family in.”

”Alright.”

On the way back, Holly was clearly preoccupied with worry.

Leon smiled. ”What’s wrong? I just managed to calm our parents down, and now you’re starting?”

”No, it’s just... I think you’re right. Someone must be behind this. From what I know of June Walsh, she would never have thought of going to a high-class place like Temptation on her own. She doesn’t have that kind of money to book a private room. I’m guessing there’s a ninety percent chance it was Maeve Sutton.”

”She can’t make any big waves. Her father has already started arranging her marriage to the young master of the Chapman Family.”

”You mean that degenerate, William Chapman, who does it all—drinking, whoring, and gambling?”

”That’s him.”

Hearing this, Holly felt that fate was fair. The way you treat the world is the way the world treats you in return.
