Mr. CEO, You Look Strangely Familiar

Mrs. Lynch was so angry she was speechless.

Holly Wood knew that anything she said would only make Mrs. Lynch angrier. However, she also knew that avoidance wouldn’t solve anything. When there was a problem, you faced it head-on. No difficulty was insurmountable.

”Leon, you should go to work. I’ll stay here and take care of your mom.”

”Who asked you to take care of me? Hire a nurse!” Mrs. Lynch refused self-righteously.

Seeing this, Leon Lynch’s frustration was obvious. But this time, no matter what, he wouldn’t compromise with his mother. It truly wasn’t easy for two people who wanted a serious relationship to be together.

”Holly, go wait for me outside. I have a few things to say to my mom.”

”Okay.” She turned and left the hospital room.

Leon Lynch looked out the window, the feelings he had long suppressed slowly rising to the surface.

”I don’t know what good it does you to keep acting like this, but who I’m with is my decision to make. I’m not a three-year-old who needs you to decide everything for me. And I’m not a nursing baby who can’t survive without his mother.”

He looked at Mrs. Lynch. ”If you hadn’t forced me to break my engagement with Nora and plotted against her, we would have been married long ago, and our kids would be grown by now. You didn’t like Nora, and you don’t like Holly. You just like Maeve Sutton. The Maeve you like so much sent a group of men to try and violate her—twice. A woman like that, in terms of scheming, is just like you. ’Birds of a feather flock together’ really is true. You want a daughter-in-law who’s the same kind of person you are.”

”I’m your mother! No matter what, I gave birth to you and raised you! Can Nora Ainsworth or Holly Wood give you that?!” Mrs. Lynch screamed, her neck strained.

”Yes, you gave birth to me and raised me. But she’s the one who will spend the rest of her life with me, not you. This time, I won’t let you interfere and ruin things again. Besides, Holly and I are already together, and I have to be responsible for her. I once even thought about going to a monastery, cutting all worldly ties and becoming a monk, just so I wouldn’t have to hear your voice anymore. That actually didn’t sound too bad. But now that she’s with me, I’m going to be with her, and no one can stop me. It’s precisely because you’re my mother that I can’t hate you or resent you. Other parents want their children to be happy, but you? You want your son to be unable to be with the woman he loves, to become your puppet for you to control. Do you think that’s possible?”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Lynch said, ”Go get the household register and go register your marriage with Holly. I approve of you two getting married.”

Mrs. Lynch couldn’t say a word. Her heart was in turmoil, and any words she might utter now would seem powerless.

Leon Lynch nodded, turned, and walked toward the door.

”Let’s go.”

”Where are we going?”

A smile touched Leon Lynch’s lips as he looked at her seriously. ”To get our marriage license.”

But Holly Wood didn’t move. ”Did your mom agree?”

”My dad told us to. And for once, my mom didn’t scream and shout.”

”Leon... what on earth did you say to your mom?”

He took her hand. ”Nothing much. I just said I really want to marry you.”

Holly Wood let him lead her away, feeling much better.

”Holly, hurry up. The Civil Affairs Bureau just opened. Today’s an auspicious day, so it’s bound to be crowded.”

”Okay.”

They first drove home to get the household register, then went back to Prosperity District, and finally, headed to the Civil Affairs Bureau.

And as expected, it was quite crowded.

Because Leon Lynch wasn’t wearing a mask or a hat and appeared right at the main entrance, he attracted a lot of attention.

It wasn’t long before reporters even rushed to the scene.

Seeing the reporters in the distance, Holly Wood wasn’t nervous at all. In fact, she wore a gentle smile.

Many eyes were on them as they held each other’s hands tightly, completing every step of the process without a hitch.

When the two bright red marriage certificates were in their hands, Leon Lynch’s heart was filled with joy.

Holly Wood was even more overjoyed.

Once they were in the car, he said, ”We probably can’t have the wedding ceremony right away. We’ll have to at least wait for my mom to recover and get out of the hospital.”

Holly Wood nodded. ”Of course. Starting tomorrow, I’ll take care of our mom at the hospital. You go to the office and focus on work. Don’t worry. I’m confident that over time, she’ll slowly come to accept me. I’ll prove myself to her.”

Leon Lynch cupped her face in his hands and gave her a kiss. ”That’s right. Take care of our mom. My good wife.”

Holly Wood threw herself into his arms, wrapping her hands around his waist. ”I feel so happy right now.”

He looked down, his expression filled with a newfound peace.

”What? They got married?!” Maeve Sutton shot up from her seat, opened her laptop, and started furiously clacking away at the keyboard. When she saw the latest news, her entire body went limp, and she slumped back down.

”How could it be so fast?”

”I don’t know, ma’am. I found out that this morning, Leon Lynch went home to steal the household register. Mrs. Lynch discovered him and tried to stop him, but unexpectedly fell down the stairs. She’s in the hospital now. Holly Wood went to see her, and Mrs. Lynch’s reaction was even more hostile. But for some reason, after Holly came out for a bit, Leon Lynch stayed in the room for a while longer before coming out. Then the two of them left hand-in-hand to get their marriage license.”

Hearing this, a chill went through Maeve Sutton’s heart. She let out a dry laugh. ”So his mother compromised. You can go now.”

”Miss Sutton, should we proceed with our plan...?”

Maeve Sutton snorted and shot him a cold glare. ”This plan is too good. How could I give up? So what if they’re married? If I can’t marry him, no one else will. Continue with the arrangements. This time, I’ll get rid of Holly Wood for good, no mistakes. She must be so smug right now. After all the years I’ve spent, all the years I’ve loved him... to be snatched away by that little brat in less than a few months! Is there anything more ridiculous than this? I can’t swallow this. I absolutely will not let this go!”

”After... the last two times... he already knows it was us... Miss Sutton, I’m speaking out of turn, but since things have come to this, why not just stop?”

”If you shouldn’t say it, then don’t! Since when do I need you to tell me what to do? Get out!”

”Yes, yes, of course.”

Maeve Sutton looked at her computer screen. The photo of their tightly clasped hands was glaringly offensive, and no one could doubt the sweet happiness on their faces.

But she couldn’t stand the sight of such a photo. Even if it meant mutual destruction, she was going to do what she wanted.

Getting up, Maeve Sutton changed her clothes, put on a baseball cap and a mask, and went out with her bag.

「A private room in a teahouse.」

June Walsh stood at the entrance and pushed the door open.

”Miss Sutton, you were looking for me?”

”June, come and sit.”

June Walsh looked around warily before sitting down opposite her.

”What did you want to see me about?”

Maeve Sutton smiled. ”Don’t be nervous. I only came to you last time because I had no other choice. To be honest, I never meant to hurt her. I just wanted to be her friend, but unfortunately, she doesn’t know what’s good for her.”

June Walsh nodded but said nothing.

”She and Leon Lynch got married. Did you know?”

Hearing this, June Walsh asked in shock, ”They really got married?”

”They’re married. The only thing missing is the banquet. It’s all over the news. They got their license this afternoon.”

June Walsh gave a dry laugh. ”No wonder she was so certain last night. So that’s how it is. It seems I was just being a busybody.”

Maeve Sutton’s mind raced, and she immediately understood what June meant. ”If she so readily ignores the advice of a friend, she’s bound to suffer for it later. From the looks of it, she doesn’t consider you a friend anymore.”

”Yeah, I can feel it. Ever since that incident at the hotel, Holly has blacklisted my number and isn’t speaking to me anymore.”

Maeve Sutton was inwardly delighted. ’Looks like she’s cutting off old friends now that she’s climbed into the Lynch Family.’

June Walsh picked up her teacup and took a few sips. ”Tell me about it. She’s rich now, so of course she looks down on poor people like us.”

”You can be rich, too,” Maeve Sutton said with a light laugh. ”Doesn’t she have a younger brother in middle school? If you could marry him, you and Holly would be family. How could she not help her own brother?”

June Walsh shook her head. ”How is that possible? I’m four years older than her brother. He gets good grades and isn’t interested in dating.”

”Boys that are fourteen or fifteen are right in the middle of puberty. He’s not dating because he doesn’t know what it’s like. Once he gets a taste, he’ll be completely hooked. I can give you some pointers. Besides... I can also give you a sum of money as your ’dating fund.’ Don’t worry, I have no ulterior motives. I just want to be your friend.”

Seeing this, June Walsh immediately asked, ”You’re going to give me money, too?”

Maeve Sutton took out her bag, pulled a card from inside, and placed it in front of her. ”There’s fifty thousand yuan on here. It’s for you. Spend it however you like.”

June Walsh picked it up, her heart pounding with unease. ”Why are you giving me so much money?”

”This is just a little bit of money, it’s not much. To me, it’s pocket change. Like I said, I want to be friends with you, if you’re willing.”

”I’m willing, I’m willing! Of course, I’m willing,” she said, her face breaking into a wide smile.

”Good. At six o’clock, go directly to room 206 on the second floor of ’Lips on Fire.’ Holly Wood’s brother will be there.”

”Okay.”

June Walsh didn’t ask how Holly Wood’s brother would end up there. But she felt it wasn’t a big deal. ’It’s just figuring out a way to date him, right? Nothing wrong with that. After all, Keth Wood is quite handsome. He’s good enough for me.’

She had assumed Maeve Sutton must have kidnapped or threatened Keth Wood to get him there. But in reality, when she arrived at the door of room 206 at ’Lips on Fire’ at six o’clock, she realized she had guessed wrong.

”You’re here?” Keth Wood greeted her.

June Walsh closed the door. ”You knew I was coming?”

”Of course, I knew it was you. Why else would I be here? What did you want to see me for?”

”It’s nothing, really. I just wanted you to help me patch things up with your sister. She’s ignoring me now because I messed up last time, and she won’t forgive me. We’ve known each other for so long... By the way, who told you to come here?”

Keth Wood was stunned. ”Didn’t your family call me and offer me ten thousand yuan to meet you here? They said you’ve been depressed lately and asked me to come and cheer you up. If it’s about my sister, I can talk to her for you. But I can’t really help you with anything else.
